Transcript
Hello, and welcome to who are you?
Laura:It's a Babylon five, watch cast by a couple of friends.
Laura:Who've gotten to know each other and are continuing to get to
Laura:know each other over one of their favorite shows from their childhood.
Laura:Babylon five.
Laura:I am Laura.
Xhafer:And I'm just fair.
Laura:And today I get to ask a fair.
Laura:Who are you?
Xhafer:Hoo.
Xhafer:Hoo hoo.
Xhafer:given next episode.
Xhafer:Where will we.
Xhafer:Uh, Taking our mid season movie break.
Xhafer:And watching Tron, as we've talked about a couple of times already in pod.
Laura:Wow.
Xhafer:not a surprise to anyone.
Xhafer:I thought I might talk a bit about my professional life.
Xhafer:Because I happen to work in information technology.
Laura:just like Tron.
Xhafer:Just like Tron.
Xhafer:Um, well, Tron is a program.
Xhafer:So he is the thing that pisses me off at my job.
Laura:Oh, that makes sense though.
Laura:Doesn't it.
Xhafer:Yeah.
Xhafer:Well, actually, Given, what I actually do is manage a service desk.
Xhafer:For people who are having problems with computers.
Xhafer:But yeah, computers it's, it's, it's a fun story for me, I guess.
Xhafer:Because when I was a kid, We got our first computer back in.
Xhafer:94.
Xhafer:We got our first home computer.
Xhafer:And I took to it and had a lot of fun.
Xhafer:And I even, like, I made a website with my mom when I was like 10
Laura:that's cute.
Xhafer:learned to code HTML and stuff.
Xhafer:and did the whole thing.
Xhafer:We had like our own geo.
Xhafer:The city's website back before.
Xhafer:Uh, what you see is what you get, or was he wig?
Xhafer:was a thing that you could just have, it was, you had to learn how to code.
Xhafer:And lake notepad and then open it up in a browser.
Xhafer:and I remember the internet before web browsers, because
Xhafer:that was a whole thing too.
Xhafer:I remember.
Xhafer:Dialing in to my local library to reserve books and stuff.
Laura:Wow.
Laura:I don't really remember the time before brown.
Laura:Well, I don't remember internet before browsers.
Laura:I remember a time before browsers.
Laura:Right.
Laura:But I don't think I, I personally ever got on the internet without a browser.
Xhafer:Yeah.
Xhafer:So I did a bit of that, as a kid and, you know, I was always in
Xhafer:like tech club and high school and.
Xhafer:I was the guy who a teacher would be like, Hey, my computer's broken.
Xhafer:We don't have an it person because this is.
Xhafer:19 98, 9 or 2002 or whatever you had happened to be in grade school.
Xhafer:And just, we need someone to fix this computer hatred fare.
Xhafer:Fix this computer.
Xhafer:so like my entire family was convinced, this is what I was going
Xhafer:to do for the rest of my life.
Xhafer:Right.
Xhafer:Like, oh, there's so much money in computers.
Xhafer:Sure.
Xhafer:It's going to go into
Laura:Right.
Laura:Great.
Xhafer:You know, Silicon valley, the.com boom, all this stuff, right.
Xhafer:So I go to college.
Xhafer:And I take about a.
Xhafer:To a year, maybe a year and a half's worth of computers
Laura:Uh, huh.
Xhafer:And I have a super negative experience in a programming class
Xhafer:that just completely turns me off from the entire program and department.
Xhafer:And I had originally gone to school to major in information technology.
Xhafer:And I was just like, no.
Xhafer:No, this is, this is not for me.
Xhafer:If this is the kind of people I'm going to have to deal with, I
Xhafer:don't want to do this for a living.
Laura:Oh, that's unfortunate.
Xhafer:Right and also wrong clearly now in hindsight.
Xhafer:Um, But at the time it felt like the right decision.
Xhafer:And I don't regret anything because I would never would
Xhafer:have gone and done economics.
Xhafer:And now a lot of the stuff that I do for work.
Xhafer:In particular, the like my fun time stuff.
Xhafer:My, I don't have a meeting right now and I don't have something
Xhafer:I need to be working on.
Xhafer:So I get to pick projects to fill my time with sometimes.
Xhafer:And when I do hit that time, it's almost always some kind of data analytics.
Xhafer:And so it does, it did work out because what I ended up doing and what
Xhafer:I ended up really enjoying about my job is kind of a cross between the
Laura:Yeah.
Xhafer:but it's funny because I ran from it for so long.
Xhafer:and even then, like in other jobs, I was the guy who would fix the
Xhafer:computer, you know, You know, most people, if you do not have a dedicated
Xhafer:it department or your dedicated it department sucks, you probably
Xhafer:have a coworker that you asked for
Laura:Right.
Laura:You have that, that guy who knows at least to tell you how to Google it right.
Laura:To get the right answer.
Xhafer:I was that guy for most of my previous roles in life.
Laura:I think it's funny that you said that your fun time stuff is
Laura:the data analytics cause that's my fun time stuff at my job too.
Laura:Like if I'm, if I'm done doing whatever financial reports I had to do.
Laura:And I'd not having to manage cause you know, managing takes
Laura:like God over half of your time.
Laura:Right.
Xhafer:Oh, yeah.
Laura:And if I I'm like have a quiet moment, it's like, well, I'm just
Laura:going to open up the analytics software and see what crazy stuff I can.
Laura:Find out about all of our accounts and.
Laura:That's the, the, the things that I do at work, those are
Laura:the ones I'm most proud of.
Xhafer:For sure.
Xhafer:No.
Xhafer:I a hundred percent get it.
Xhafer:Without getting into the minutia of it.
Xhafer:I've written some.
Xhafer:Power BI stuff.
Xhafer:And other kinds of, Data analytic programs that are just really flipping cool.
Laura:I know the feeling.
Laura:Yeah.
Xhafer:I think I'm really proud of some of my, formula in Excel
Xhafer:that I've done over the years.
Xhafer:I personally was very excited.
Xhafer:For office 2019 and the introduction of the ifs statement.
Xhafer:If you, if you are an Excel nerd and you aren't an old version of Excel and
Xhafer:you haven't gotten to fuck with ifs yet.
Xhafer:Oh, Oh, it's so good.
Xhafer:No more nested.
Xhafer:If then statements, it makes it so much easier.
Xhafer:You're not looking for that missing parentheses.
Xhafer:Oh, it's so good.
Laura:I do hate the parentheses.
Xhafer:But, yeah, so that's what I do for a living.
Xhafer:I work with computers and I work with people who are
Xhafer:having problems with computers.
Laura:Which is most of us really.
Xhafer:I mean, they kind of suck computers, not the people.
Laura:Um, it could be, it could be two things.
Xhafer:I will.
Xhafer:Professionally speaking, I will not say the other.
Xhafer:Um, Now there's a lot of real I've.
Xhafer:I actually, Before I went over to the company I worked for now.
Xhafer:I went over with the intention of moving into management, get based off my history.
Xhafer:I have a decade of leadership experience elsewhere.
Xhafer:But they didn't have an opening at first.
Xhafer:So I actually took.
Xhafer:The call center job.
Xhafer:When I started.
Xhafer:for a couple of months and I worked that for about eight months, I
Xhafer:think before I was promoted or something, it wasn't a while.
Xhafer:but I did like, has someone answering the phones, helping people solve?
Xhafer:Problems with their computer.
Xhafer:I did.
Xhafer:Becoming dear to a number of people that worked for some of our clients.
Xhafer:You know, you, you get your regulars.
Xhafer:Well, that'll just hit you up on Skype or something and, you know, You're like, Hey.
Xhafer:Are you on a call right now?
Xhafer:Because I need some help.
Laura:I think I'm probably a regular with our core software company a little bit.
Laura:There's there's a couple of them.
Laura:There's one that one program we implemented.
Laura:And every single time I've opened the case on this one particular program.
Laura:It is the same guy.
Laura:Who answers my questions and he's my favorite guy.
Laura:Cause he's so fast.
Xhafer:Yeah.
Laura:But that's kind of unusual considering how big their company is, but.
Xhafer:Hmm.
Laura:It's a very particular program.
Laura:So.
Xhafer:Well, I mean, they probably have certain people
Xhafer:assigned to certain clients.
Xhafer:That's not.
Xhafer:Two out of the ordinary.
Xhafer:Well, it is out of the ordinary.
Xhafer:Is this episode of babble on five, made it.
Laura:Yay.
Laura:I was like, how do
Laura:we, how do we pivot?
Laura:Where do we go?
Xhafer:got to find
Laura:You did it.
Laura:Congrats.
Laura:We get to open up on those wind chimes.
Xhafer:We have an up some wind chimes at season two, episode
Xhafer:11, all alone in the night.
Xhafer:Which is of course aligned from the theme.
Laura:Very ominous.
Laura:These ones that are connected to like the bigger story or the, Theme or the,
Laura:what is it that cause each season has a title, like when they're connected to
Laura:that, you know, it's an important episode.
Xhafer:For sure.
Xhafer:We'll talk about that.
Xhafer:There's a lot of episodes to get through.
Xhafer:I have a whole soapbox about that particular thing in relation to this
Laura:Ooh, I can't wait to get there.
Xhafer:we rate the episode.
Xhafer:but we opened up on DLN inner quarters.
Xhafer:Talking to Lanier about her pending trip to meet with the gray council.
Xhafer:Doting.
Xhafer:She feels she's going to get removed from the council and
Xhafer:possibly even her posting a B five.
Laura:Yeah, it's very
Laura:sad.
Xhafer:Yeah.
Xhafer:it's a bit of a reality sandwich.
Xhafer:To quote, my dad.
Xhafer:from Dylan.
Laura:Reality Sam.
Laura:Oh, I just got It
Xhafer:It's time to eat your reality sandwich.
Xhafer:Yeah.
Xhafer:That dad would say that when you, when you fucked up and then had to
Xhafer:own up to the consequences, because she hasn't really been very truthful
Xhafer:with Lanier about how the great council feels about all this stuff.
Xhafer:And so when she's all, like, I'm probably not going to be a tie anymore.
Xhafer:He's all like, what are you talking about?
Xhafer:That's news.
Xhafer:And it's all like, Oh, well, I'll just tell you that they might also
Xhafer:remove me from Babylon five instead of owning up to the fact that I've been
Xhafer:lying to you actively for six months.
Laura:Yeah.
Laura:It's an interesting look.
Laura:she's going to go off and do this thing.
Laura:On her own, But linear keeps telling her that she's not alone.
Laura:He's there for.
Laura:And he's, he's gonna be there.
Xhafer:Yeah, he'll, he's going to stick around.
Xhafer:in CNC, Sheridan is literally begging to be kidnapped or blown
Laura:Good grief.
Xhafer:an unknown thing.
Xhafer:Appearing making ships vanish.
Xhafer:I'll go check it out myself.
Xhafer:I got to keep my fly pay.
Laura:Yeah, mysteries on, on Babylon five that we got to go investigate and space.
Laura:Generally not the safest thing.
Xhafer:No, there's not a strong track record of pilots making it back.
Laura:at both the, the Zeta squadron and alpha squadron are busy.
Laura:So we're just going to take a couple of dudes and the captain
Laura:who needs his flight pay.
Laura:Out there to look for this.
Laura:And of course, aging sees himself with the famous last words.
Xhafer:Yep.
Xhafer:I mean, when Kiefer wasn't part of this flight crew, when he's been forced onto
Xhafer:every flight crew in every scene possible, you knew they weren't going to make it.
Laura:oh, that's a good point.
Xhafer:This character we've been shoving down your throats.
Laura:Really.
Xhafer:there's pilots to humanize them a little bit.
Xhafer:And he's the one time the captain's going to go out, he doesn't
Xhafer:go with, and you're just like,
Laura:This would have been a good time for Kiefer.
Laura:We could have put him in here somehow, except he was probably busy.
Xhafer:Honestly, you could probably, I don't know that it works the same,
Xhafer:but if this, they had just done this episode with Kiefer in Sheridan's place.
Xhafer:I might like keep her more as a character.
Laura:Oh, that's a good point too, because like he's already got this.
Laura:Mystery storyline of like, he saw something out in hyperspace and if he
Laura:went out and like got kidnapped, That would, that could be an interesting turn.
Laura:Yeah.
Laura:Hmm.
Laura:But we have to have shared and then everything right now, he's just.
Xhafer:Yeah, he's too important.
Xhafer:Got to, got to make sure everyone knows how important he
Laura:Yeah.
Laura:So we cut to an unknown non fighter.
Laura:That's in a struggle with an unknown ship.
Laura:And it appears he's getting abducted to theme.
Xhafer:When we come back.
Xhafer:Lanier is seeing Dylan off and tells her that he will be joining her in his,
Xhafer:uh, little It's a what'd they call them.
Xhafer:The little one Cedars.
Laura:Oh, I just, I just called it a flyer.
Laura:Is it.
Laura:Is it a flyer?
Laura:I don't know.
Laura:They look like little fish, all of them in Bari ships look
Laura:like little fish of some sort.
Laura:I think the okay.
Laura:If the, um, If the warships.
Laura:Our angel fish, obviously, right.
Laura:They look like angel fish.
Laura:maybe these are a little better fish.
Laura:They're really cool.
Laura:Little little betas.
Laura:Whatever you call them.
Xhafer:so, uh, he's going to be joining her.
Xhafer:Sheridan is getting ready to fly when Ivanova calls to be a lake.
Xhafer:Hey, one of the joint chiefs is coming.
Xhafer:Maybe you should've let me know next time.
Laura:Yeah.
Laura:He's he's coming early though.
Laura:So, Sheridan meant to do that.
Laura:He meant to tell
Laura:her.
Xhafer:Yeah, I'm just going to jump off station real quick while
Xhafer:a general is coming to visit.
Xhafer:No
Laura:Yeah, NBD.
Xhafer:Garibaldi and Franklin talks shit about marsh and
Xhafer:baseball with a pilot who joins the escorts, who jump into hyperspace.
Laura:this is how we know that guy is going to die.
Xhafer:For sure.
Xhafer:I give him some emotional stakes that, but doctor that bet on baseball.
Laura:Got to live and pay my 50 bucks or whatever.
Xhafer:Like really just like you can't hit a home run on earth, gravity.
Xhafer:Fuck you.
Xhafer:How is that not compensated like literally you would send an earth
Xhafer:team to Mars and if they're actually playing in different gravity that
Xhafer:your body has to acclimate to.
Xhafer:That'd be a whole thing.
Xhafer:Also the balls would fly so differently.
Laura:Yeah.
Laura:I mean, physics is different with gravity.
Xhafer:Yeah.
Xhafer:Well, I mean,
Laura:Well, physics isn't different, but you know what I mean?
Laura:Like,
Xhafer:Yeah, I know what you mean.
Xhafer:Yeah.
Laura:I'm going to catch so much shit from my dad for that.
Laura:Love you dad.
Xhafer:Does he listen to the podcast?
Laura:Yeah.
Xhafer:Okay.
Laura:Anyway.
Laura:So speaking of cool physics, we get, we get a scene of the star fieries leaving
Laura:and they do some of their cool tricks.
Laura:You know, I think Sheridan.
Laura:Turns himself around
Laura:to look at his buddies and the station before he leaves.
Laura:And, you know, that's just that cool, like.
Xhafer:There's some flippers and
Laura:Yeah.
Laura:We don't really
Xhafer:Like battle.
Xhafer:That's the thing.
Xhafer:Battlestar Galactica.
Xhafer:The reboot does so well, the ship Philippi's.
Laura:Yeah.
Laura:I mean, cause.
Xhafer:we'll save that for when we're done with Babylon five.
Xhafer:We'll talk about it a lot more in a couple of years, just hold
Laura:Battlestar podcast, 2025.
Xhafer:Is that when it will be
Laura:I don't know, I was just,
Xhafer:to check.
Laura:I was.
Laura:just doing a number that sounded like my.
Laura:Could be right.
Xhafer:Okay.
Laura:We'll see.
Laura:We'll get more precise later.
Xhafer:I have.
Xhafer:I know the release dates for every episode up until the season three episode one.
Xhafer:Wouldn't be that hard to just figure it
Xhafer:out.
Xhafer:But that I'm not doing right now.
Xhafer:That's Excel.
Xhafer:Fun time.
Xhafer:We're talking podcast.
Xhafer:Uh, linear is sending Dylan some thoughts and prayers as she, uh, goes
Xhafer:in to the, uh, Oh, is that, is that too
Laura:No,
Xhafer:Can we, can we not say that?
Xhafer:I'm sorry.
Laura:That was pretty good.
Xhafer:It's like, okay.
Xhafer:I can't go past you sending your thoughts and prayers.
Xhafer:Totally the vibe.
Laura:And he still calls her.
Laura:So Ty, which I thought was cute, you know, you're, you're the of my heart.
Laura:Yeah.
Xhafer:Oh forever.
Xhafer:It's a tie.
Xhafer:He's actually going to get a tattooed.
Xhafer:Um, Engraved in his bone.
Xhafer:Richard is actually.
Laura:Not weird.
Laura:At all.
Xhafer:So anyways, that ship from the open shows up.
Xhafer:Blows up a ton of the star theories.
Xhafer:Uh, they capture Sheraton, by force and move Jack to the tractor beam of men.
Xhafer:And Ramirez is the only survivor still on a ship.
Xhafer:And he knows he's not going to make it.
Xhafer:There's already terminal amounts of radiation.
Xhafer:He is dead.
Xhafer:So he sets his autopilot and just tries to get back to the station
Xhafer:while making sure that he leaves logs.
Xhafer:So if he doesn't make it the whole way, they know what's going on and know
Xhafer:that the captain's out there somewhere.
Laura:Yeah, so, you know, he's a good, Good fly buddy.
Laura:But man.
Laura:You hate to see
Xhafer:Yeah.
Xhafer:I mean, when you introduce a character and then kill them five minutes later.
Laura:Yeah.
Laura:When you had other characters you could have sent anyway.
Laura:back in Babylon five.
Laura:Ivana was waiting for general Haig.
Laura:Uh, he gets off at
Laura:space.
Laura:Yeah, he gets off at space TSA.
Laura:ask about Sheridan and She says, well, he went into to look into something.
Laura:And another sector.
Laura:He'll be back and general Haig.
Laura:Of
Xhafer:Did you clock him by the way?
Laura:Well, he's that one guy that looks like.
Laura:Like somebody in Russell Crowe.
Laura:That was my joke.
Laura:Last time.
Laura:Cause he's been on before,
Xhafer:Oh, This is the second and final appearance on the
Laura:This is his final appearance.
Xhafer:Yeah, we never see him
Laura:What a shame.
Xhafer:But he is Admiral latent from DS.
Laura:Oh, yes.
Laura:Yes.
Xhafer:He's in a number of episodes of DS.
Xhafer:Uh, which I think I knew last time if it had, if I didn't
Xhafer:bring it up, I think I recognized
Xhafer:him, but what I, what I didn't recognize him as was overseer
Xhafer:Veloce from enterprise.
Xhafer:He's one of the Vulcan.
Xhafer:Overseers of the NX.
Xhafer:Oh one and enterprise and he's in like 15 episodes, enterprise.
Laura:I could see that his, Hairdo is very like Vulcan.
Laura:It's that very like severe.
Laura:Bangs.
Laura:The.
Laura:The forehead.
Laura:Yeah, he could do that.
Laura:All right.
Laura:I'll buy it.
Xhafer:Well, we cut to the rent unknown alien ship.
Xhafer:And a Sheraton is saran wrapped to his bunker.
Xhafer:Like at summer camp.
Laura:I put saran.
Laura:Saran wrap and cabbage leaves.
Laura:It reminded me of both things.
Xhafer:That's fair.
Xhafer:It is very kava G and not good cabbage either like old stretchy.
Laura:Yeah.
Xhafer:Not, not a fresh cabbage.
Laura:Yeah.
Laura:So he starts name rank serial numbering.
Laura:And does, I cannot remember, and we might have to scrub
Laura:if you don't remember either.
Laura:Does he ask, who are you?
Laura:To the alien.
Laura:Allianz.
Xhafer:Oh, I don't
Laura:In, in his little ranty.
Laura:Ranting.
Laura:I feel that the need to scrub to that, because I pointed out that he
Laura:asks a couple of our other questions.
Laura:That are important.
Laura:So.
Laura:Okay.
Laura:Well, he's got to ask somebody who they are at some point.
Laura:Anyway.
Xhafer:Dylan.
Xhafer:Shows up and get stood up by the gray council.
Laura:Oh, yeah, no one she's she's all dressed and she's in her potato sack.
Laura:Ready to talk to the council or is she in a potato sack?
Laura:Yeah.
Laura:Doesn't
Xhafer:She's in a potato sack.
Xhafer:No one's there.
Xhafer:Her friend appears to tell her they won't recognize her more
Xhafer:than her appearance has changed.
Xhafer:Hedren goes to explain.
Xhafer:Look, the nine of us are stuck here.
Xhafer:And our appointments are for life.
Xhafer:We maintain a nice balance.
Xhafer:Don't rock the boat too hard.
Xhafer:Let, what needs to make its way to us, you know?
Xhafer:Eh, just whatever it is, it's, you know, it's just the way I, for
Xhafer:government, it was clearly designed by our richest minds long ago.
Xhafer:It works.
Xhafer:And if we don't respect that, then aren't we disrespecting ourselves
Xhafer:in case we become our richest mines.
Xhafer:Dylan's pretty upset, but understands.
Xhafer:And she wants to know her backfill is.
Xhafer:And Hadron is just like, uh, you'll meet them later.
Xhafer:When you plead your case before the Supreme court counsel.
Xhafer:Great counsel.
Laura:Nice.
Laura:Nice.
Xhafer:Oh, it gets worse.
Laura:I can't wait.
Laura:I'm so excited.
Laura:In CNC.
Laura:The fighter has made it back through the jump gate.
Laura:Hagan Ivanova can tell right away that something's wrong.
Laura:It's it's alone.
Laura:It's really badly damaged.
Laura:they radio med labs that they're going to need to be ready to treat.
Laura:Whoever is still inside.
Xhafer:back in captivity, Sheridan gets in a pipe fight with a drowsy.
Xhafer:Who has some data, brain thing that he then impales himself on accident.
Xhafer:The drowsy.
Xhafer:Uh, he vanishes and then RN from earlier shows up with a sword.
Laura:Yeah.
Laura:Like a
Laura:machete.
Xhafer:Right.
Xhafer:Uh, there's a little bit in the.
Xhafer:seasoned guide about this.
Xhafer:Because the NARKN was also the fight choreographer.
Laura:Oh, how funny.
Xhafer:apparently.
Xhafer:there was a bit with Bruce box Lintner about him wanting to swing more wildly.
Xhafer:Like he's all like, you wouldn't do it like that.
Xhafer:You do it like this.
Xhafer:It's like, no, I'm an untrained fighter.
Xhafer:I would do it like this.
Xhafer:You know, and like war himself, so ragged.
Xhafer:That, when he got in his car at the end of the day, he literally couldn't lift
Xhafer:his arms to the wheel to drive home.
Laura:Oh, man.
Laura:And you just can't just call an Uber back then.
Xhafer:Yeah, it's fun stuff.
Xhafer:Um, at MetaLab the pilot dies.
Xhafer:Like we knew he was gonna.
Xhafer:But we do find out about the captain's capture from the logs.
Laura:Yeah.
Xhafer:to the Supreme Gregg council.
Xhafer:And Dylan is like, fuck.
Xhafer:Y'all.
Xhafer:And then the room shows up and dilemmas, very confused because you've put too
Xhafer:many of the red warrior cows on the gray council, and now it's going to get
Xhafer:imbalanced and it's going to get all fucky instead of being impartial, like it's
Xhafer:supposed to be, and you're making the nine all political, which wasn't the intent
Xhafer:that you all say you care so much about?
Xhafer:Who knows what disastrous, rulings and rights this court is going to change
Xhafer:and take away all because that turtle Mitch had drawn, got all fucking with
Xhafer:the rules and didn't replace Dylan at the right time and made everyone.
Xhafer:Fucking wait, fuck that guy.
Xhafer:Anyway, scar tells Dylan that she can get wrecked.
Xhafer:The warrior cast is in charge now, and if you don't like it, you could get out.
Laura:Yeah.
Xhafer:Because if you didn't know, by the way, uh, the rune, uh, the actor
Xhafer:also voiced scar in the lion king.
Laura:I, you know, we probably talked about that last time,
Laura:but it's still a surprise.
Xhafer:Yeah.
Xhafer:I, I don't remember if we clocked it last time, but every time I see him.
Xhafer:I'm going to check and be surprised again.
Laura:We just love our like British accent, bad guys in America.
Xhafer:We do.
Laura:We just, for some reason, it's like it's baked in our DNA.
Laura:I don't know.
Laura:It's so weird.
Laura:Yeah.
Laura:So religious cast only gets two members.
Laura:Now.
Laura:We've got.
Laura:Where you're cast with four.
Laura:Worker cast with three.
Laura:Religious with too.
Laura:So.
Laura:That's it.
Laura:Not quite balanced.
Laura:Like some things.
Laura:Yeah.
Laura:on the cabbage ship.
Laura:Sheridan's taken off the nones, Device.
Laura:He starts to wake up.
Laura:He's not dead.
Laura:We find out.
Laura:Share.
Laura:Sheridan.
Laura:Thanks.
Laura:He broke some of his ribs.
Laura:They don't have any food or water.
Laura:And he asks the NARKN.
Laura:If he has any idea why they're here, Why are we here?
Xhafer:Yeah.
Xhafer:They talk about it for a moment.
Xhafer:And, they come to the conclusion that this is just a test for future invasion plans.
Laura:Yeah.
Xhafer:See, who's weak, who they can conquer easily.
Laura:Right.
Laura:Sheridan's decides that his first obligation is to try to escape somehow.
Laura:but the Narin passes back out on him.
Xhafer:meanwhile, Dylan catches up linear on what happened and
Xhafer:he agrees to follow her back.
Xhafer:Despite Dylan being like, no, uh, shit sucks.
Xhafer:Like you probably don't want to do this.
Xhafer:And he's just like, I'm going to do it.
Laura:Hm.
Laura:I'm just going to commit career suicide with you.
Laura:It's fine.
Xhafer:Yeah.
Laura:Like, uh, they, they said she can go back to Babylon five.
Laura:They're fine with sidelining her out there.
Laura:So linear's happy to go be sidelined with her.
Laura:He thinks that, you know, he's going for the long play.
Laura:He's going for the long game.
Laura:Do you think this will work out?
Xhafer:Back and CNC the general and Ivanova discussed the situation.
Xhafer:Not much more info, but it seems to be collecting single
Xhafer:individuals from multiple races.
Xhafer:And then the egg amend.
Xhafer:Mom shows up to help their old captain.
Xhafer:And it should be fast enough to catch up with whatever.
Laura:Yeah.
Laura:nice to see the ship again.
Laura:It's been a little
Xhafer:Yeah.
Laura:back in the prison.
Laura:Sheridan's drifting off and he has one of these classic Babylon five.
Laura:Spooky visions.
Xhafer:sequins.
Laura:We get Ivanova with like a bird on her shoulder.
Laura:Shushing him.
Laura:And asking him if she, if he knows who she is.
Laura:Do you know who I am.
Laura:We see Garibaldi and he's got a different bird.
Laura:I think hers is like
Xhafer:Ivanova has a Raven
Xhafer:and Garibaldi has a dove.
Laura:is.
Laura:Not the bird I would associate with Garibaldi, but.
Xhafer:Well, I do say, I think long-term, it makes sense.
Xhafer:Given their roles in the conflict to come.
Laura:Hm.
Laura:I'll have to think on that one.
Laura:Okay.
Xhafer:Yeah, I don't want to get it's super spoiler town,
Xhafer:so I'm not going to get into it right now, but.
Laura:Yes, super spoiler town.
Xhafer:We can talk about it in the discord.
Xhafer:Join our discord.
Laura:Somebody explained the dove to Laura.
Laura:Garibaldi says that the man in between is searching for you, which I think I
Laura:remember what that's a reference to.
Laura:And we see Kosch.
Laura:And he asked Kosch why are you here?
Laura:So I know that at some point he asked, what do, what did these aliens want?
Laura:So I think we get all three questions.
Xhafer:Yeah.
Laura:In a, manner of speaking into this episode.
Laura:Sheridan wakes up.
Laura:he sees the sword.
Laura:And has a big brain moment.
Laura:Realizing
Xhafer:It's like fucking, we're getting outta
Laura:We swords can be used for multiple things.
Xhafer:Yeah.
Xhafer:It's true.
Xhafer:I have a sword exclusively for opening champagne.
Xhafer:its job.
Laura:Do you have one for levering open doors?
Xhafer:Honestly, I could use the Sam champagne sword.
Xhafer:It's very thick.
Laura:Yeah.
Xhafer:Meanwhile Dylan on her way back.
Xhafer:Gives us the story on the streets.
Xhafer:are those who captured Sheridan and others.
Xhafer:This is their Mo and the last time the embargo encountered
Xhafer:them, they gave them the Vulcan.
Xhafer:Hello.
Xhafer:The Agamemnon, the fighters and the men Bari.
Xhafer:Sorry, find them join in.
Xhafer:And the captain and the non escape as the ship is destroyed.
Laura:I really like what Dylan gets to say about.
Laura:you guys remember your time in our space?
Laura:Yeah, you're gonna, you're gonna regret this.
Laura:I love it when she gets to give threats, which happens a few times in this show.
Laura:So.
Xhafer:It does.
Xhafer:There's one
Xhafer:in a number of episodes here.
Xhafer:That's probably one of the best threats delivered.
Xhafer:On TV.
Laura:Chef kiss.
Laura:Yes.
Xhafer:Anyways, the captain in an iron escape as the ship has destroyed.
Xhafer:Back on the station.
Xhafer:Sheridan is in MetaLab and mourns the loss of the others and cautious
Xhafer:waiting for him just to prove that that wasn't entirely a dream.
Laura:Yeah, he's spooky too.
Laura:He's super spooky.
Laura:He says you've always been here.
Xhafer:Yeah.
Xhafer:Referring to his mind.
Laura:Yeah, so.
Laura:We go back to Sheridan's quarters.
Laura:I think with general Haig it's either his quarters or his office, but.
Laura:Okay.
Laura:Yeah.
Laura:This casual time, he said this was a personal visit casual thing.
Laura:so we cram a whole bunch of stuff into the last five minutes of this episode.
Xhafer:Yes, we do.
Laura:General Haig takes out some kind of jamming device
Laura:so that they can talk freely.
Laura:And Sheridan.
Laura:Pretty angry about how long it's taken for someone to come debrief him.
Laura:Like, we're pretty sure the timeline on this is six months, right?
Laura:Six months
Xhafer:Yeah.
Xhafer:Give or take.
Laura:He says all his staff can be trusted.
Laura:And so Hague tells him, you know, that.
Laura:Santiago knew how important this place was and this basically why he put Sheridan.
Laura:As number two pick if something happened to Sinclair, because
Laura:he would look like some sort of hard nose, military man to Clark.
Laura:But he wouldn't actually be that.
Laura:So Santiago was playing chess.
Xhafer:Yes.
Xhafer:The general says Santiago's death was likely in assassination.
Xhafer:Likely by Cycore, but they can't prove it yet.
Xhafer:The conspiracy is real.
Xhafer:Y'all.
Laura:Okay.
Laura:Now we know who his sources.
Xhafer:Yeah, right.
Laura:'cause he talked about, he collects these secrets.
Laura:He's getting them from general Haig.
Xhafer:Yeah.
Xhafer:Sheridan agrees to fight, to save earth.
Xhafer:And he decides to bring his senior staff in on it and brings them all
Xhafer:to the quarters after the general leaves and tells them what's going on.
Laura:Yeah.
Laura:He gets the jamming device from Hague.
Laura:And, you know, they all kind of knew something was up what, since Garibaldi
Laura:got shot in the back, in that whole thing.
Xhafer:Yeah.
Laura:so they're all in,
Laura:Each one of them gets to say, yes, I want to be in on this.
Laura:And we've got a mystery.
Laura:End of episode.
Xhafer:So Laura, on a scale of Babylon, one to Babylon five,
Xhafer:how'd you feel about this one?
Laura:It's not as clear for me as the last one.
Laura:Like.
Xhafer:Yeah.
Laura:Grupos hit, hit all my emotional spots the way it was supposed to.
Laura:And I enjoyed it a lot.
Laura:this one, I guess I kind of got to go back to three territory.
Laura:It's not Babylon five best.
Laura:It's not Babylon.
Laura:Five worst.
Laura:It's a average solid middle of the road for me episode.
Xhafer:I would put it into three as well.
Xhafer:And my rant here is that this feels like the first time Babylon five
Xhafer:as swung for the fences and missed.
Laura:Yeah.
Xhafer:it's still a good episode.
Xhafer:It's solid.
Xhafer:It does what it needs to.
Xhafer:but I mean the character, we don't get anything substantial.
Xhafer:With any of the characters, despite a bunch of stuff happening to them.
Xhafer:Like we get some place setting for future stuff with them.
Xhafer:Ambari gray council.
Xhafer:and the, the eventual, fracture in their culture, that's been
Xhafer:building in the background that they've referred to a bunch.
Xhafer:Uh, we get some stuff about a conspiracy, but nothing of
Xhafer:substance, and it's all shoved in the last couple of minutes of the
Laura:Yeah.
Xhafer:Yeah.
Laura:really is.
Xhafer:And the whole plot was shared and being captured feels like it exists
Xhafer:solely to have general HEG do something else besides not tell us what's going on.
Xhafer:At the end of the episode.
Laura:Yeah.
Laura:Yeah.
Xhafer:Um, you could have made that Keifer very easily
Xhafer:and then had that be a test.
Xhafer:Uh, of like Ivanova and stuff to see if the General's
Xhafer:comfortable with bringing them in.
Xhafer:Or something.
Xhafer:It just, anything really like, it just feels like a miss to me.
Xhafer:And.
Xhafer:It's not that great of an episode for it.
Laura:Yeah, I think it was trying really hard to build.
Laura:Building blocks that we're going to need later.
Xhafer:Yeah.
Laura:you know, as much as like the.
Laura:The Strieber kind of Streep Stripe.
Laura:our kind of spooky and, you know, Later, you can ask yourself, like, are
Laura:they servants of shadows or VAR lawns
Laura:or.
Laura:Like, what, what, how do they fit in.
Xhafer:I don't think they show up again.
Laura:I don't know, It wasn't as compelling as some.
Laura:Mysteries in Babylon five R to me, I do have a . Funny scrub
Laura:point that I forgot to bring up.
Xhafer:Yeah.
Laura:As they're leaving the ship.
Laura:Okay there as.
Xhafer:the aliens look like?
Xhafer:What the
Xhafer:streets look like.
Laura:So, you know, The stream start spacing.
Laura:Everybody.
Laura:And Sheridan and the NAR and managed to like find an escape pod.
Xhafer:Yeah, there.
Xhafer:Big graze.
Xhafer:Right?
Laura:it's one of those
Xhafer:It's an alien costume from Halloween.
Xhafer:USA.
Laura:And it's The same big gray guy that, abducted the guy in the,
Laura:the episode with, you know, The legal system back in season one.
Laura:Yeah,
Laura:it's that same kind of gray.
Laura:So it's very funny that they've.
Laura:Definitely made a name for it, but how was he on Babylon five then?
Laura:man.
Xhafer:Yeah.
Xhafer:Yeah.
Laura:It's just one of
Xhafer:those
Xhafer:are different gray aliens.
Xhafer:Yeah.
Laura:So that's somewhere around the 35.
Laura:Minute mark, because I can't find it exactly at this
Laura:moment.
Xhafer:I know the seniors talking about.
Xhafer:Honestly, I think the, uh, the ones that we saw earlier in court, I don't remember
Xhafer:them being so distinctively tall, this one felt like he was played by Doug Jones.
Laura:Yeah, he was
Xhafer:He's a tall.
Xhafer:boy.
Laura:Definitely.
Laura:So, yeah.
Xhafer:All right.
Laura:episode.
Xhafer:Yeah.
Xhafer:So next week, we're going to go ahead and review Tron.
Xhafer:As part of our mid season movie break.
Xhafer:After that we'll be back with season two, episode 12, acts of sacrifice.
Xhafer:but I'll read the preview on that one for next episode.
Laura:Oh, yeah, we don't get to know right now what that's about.
Xhafer:No, you possibly couldn't Google it or look at HBO max or have seen
Xhafer:the episode in the 20 years since its
Laura:You're not going to cause you're worried about Tron.
Laura:All right.
