BSG Miniseries Pt. 2 - Fanatical Realism

Things are heating up as Laura and Xhafer finish Part 2 of the Battlestar Galactica miniseries. Laura asks more questions Xhafer can't answer and stans a queen. Xhafer laments Starbuck's haircut and ponders the infinity of bullets. Join us as we do the mental math and marvel at the futility of fractions with large denominators and an unknown number of Cylons in the numerator. Let's hope Commander Adama can save the human race through the power of speeches and fairy tales. SO SAY WE ALL.

Transcript
Xhafer:

Hello and welcome to Who Are You?

2

:

This is a reasonably well done sci fi

watch cast hosted by two friends who

3

:

are currently watching 2004's Battlestar

4

:

Galactica.

5

:

I'm Trafair.

6

:

Laura: And I'm Laura.

7

:

Xhafer: And we've got the second episode

of the:

8

:

reboot today.

9

:

Laura: This is a good opener for the show.

10

:

Xhafer: It's real strong.

11

:

Laura: Mm hmm.

12

:

Xhafer: I, I think I said it.

13

:

Well before we

14

:

started recording this.

15

:

The best episode of this show

is the third episode of this

16

:

show.

17

:

Laura: Aaron says the same thing.

18

:

So I'm super

19

:

excited.

20

:

Sure.

21

:

Xhafer: gotta, we gotta get this down.

22

:

And this isn't even bad.

23

:

And I will say like, We

watch sci fi shows, right?

24

:

Sci fi shows last seasons.

25

:

There's a, there's a history there

of them typically not being great.

26

:

Even if they stick the

27

:

landing,

28

:

Laura: hmm.

29

:

Xhafer: last season, she

usually got some stinkers.

30

:

Um, but a lot of these shows their

first it's either the first season

31

:

or like they're one of their

first three is just phenomenal.

32

:

This first season is like.

33

:

A plus prestige television.

34

:

Just banger after banger of memory serves.

35

:

So it's, it's real top heavy on

the really, really good episodes.

36

:

And so I think not, I don't

want to like set you up for like

37

:

disappointment or

38

:

Laura: Sure.

39

:

Yeah.

40

:

Xhafer: think that uh, I don't think

it's like watching season five of

41

:

Babylon five after watching season three

42

:

and four.

43

:

Laura: Sure.

44

:

Yeah.

45

:

Xhafer: not as good.

46

:

It doesn't, that doesn't mean it's bad.

47

:

Although some of it is bad

and there is a boxing episode

48

:

mixed in here somewhere.

49

:

Laura: Aaron has already informed me

of the obligatory 90s to early aughts

50

:

boxing episode in Battlestar Galactica.

51

:

So looking forward

52

:

to that.

53

:

Xhafer: Yeah.

54

:

But that's all way down the line.

55

:

We got, we got this mini series to

finish off here before we get to the

56

:

show, but you've seen the mini series

now you haven't seen any of the TV show.

57

:

Laura: Uh Huh.

58

:

Xhafer: How excited are

59

:

you for this?

60

:

Laura: I'm pretty excited.

61

:

There's so many questions.

62

:

I can't wait to get the Ja'far face,

like, five more times in this episode.

63

:

Xhafer: it's going to be a thing.

64

:

That's fine.

65

:

Um, I mean, I will say this

show, I'm going to get yelled at

66

:

here by someone in our audience.

67

:

This show is really good

at giving us answers.

68

:

Laura: Oh, okay.

69

:

Xhafer: they're not

always the best answers.

70

:

They don't always make sense.

71

:

And there are like two big ins that

are kind of left open at the end.

72

:

Laura: Sure.

73

:

Xhafer: But I mean.

74

:

I don't know.

75

:

I, especially these first couple of

seasons, like there's lots of stuff.

76

:

There's lots of things

that are set up for later.

77

:

And so as someone who's seen it,

I'm like seeing little, super

78

:

minute detail stuff that it's just

like, Oh, they did that for this.

79

:

Oh, they did that for this.

80

:

Oh, that's so good.

81

:

um,

82

:

I mean, obviously you've seen

the ending of this episode now.

83

:

Right.

84

:

So you know that Doral is a

85

:

Cylon.

86

:

Laura: Correct.

87

:

I was actually the whole time that, you

know, from, from the moment Jacques Hughes

88

:

to him actually being outed as a Cylon.

89

:

I was like, he wasn't it.

90

:

He wasn't it.

91

:

He wasn't it.

92

:

Xhafer: Yeah.

93

:

Laura: Like,

94

:

I was convinced that they

just had the wrong guy.

95

:

It was good.

96

:

He was going to just die.

97

:

And there's somebody else,

but it was both things.

98

:

Xhafer: It was both.

99

:

Um, like, when Adama is giving his

speech about the sins of humanity

100

:

past, he reacts completely differently

than everyone in the audience.

101

:

Yeah,

102

:

Laura: Wow.

103

:

Xhafer: not the only one.

104

:

Laura: Oh man, I'm gonna have to

go back and re watch that just to,

105

:

Xhafer: You won't guess.

106

:

It's fine, though.

107

:

it's, it's, I mean, that's

just like the, the kind of

108

:

storytelling that this show does.

109

:

and so I'm really excited for

you, and I'm just wondering,

110

:

like, the amp level is high.

111

:

We're excited.

112

:

Do you regret not watching this earlier?

113

:

Is that, like, your instant thought?

114

:

Laura: hmm, no, I'm not sure

that I would have the, like,

115

:

emotional context to appreciate

116

:

it on the level that I'm

appreciating it now, if that makes

117

:

Xhafer: No, that, no, that's totally fair.

118

:

you know, we're different

people in a different time

119

:

than 20 years ago.

120

:

Laura: uh Huh, yeah, uh huh, Yeah, and

I mean, I don't think it would take

121

:

anything away from this re watch activity.

122

:

But I think about, like,

watching Babylon 5, you know,

123

:

almost 30 ish years ago.

124

:

And I just had such a child's one

dimensional read on that show.

125

:

And coming

126

:

back to it, it's much more nuanced

than I originally realized.

127

:

So,

128

:

Xhafer: Yeah.

129

:

Laura: And I don't want

that for this show.

130

:

Like, I'm not sure that at

the time this came out, when

131

:

I was graduating high school.

132

:

That I could have gotten a deeper

than one dimensional read on anything

133

:

happening, if that makes sense.

134

:

Xhafer: No, no, I mean,

you're your brain isn't

135

:

fully formed for another, you

136

:

Laura: Nope.

137

:

Xhafer: seven years at that point.

138

:

Like you

139

:

got time.

140

:

Laura: And I think mine took a little

longer even than that to bake, so

141

:

Xhafer: that I feel that in my bones.

142

:

Laura: yeah.

143

:

So no regrets.

144

:

I'm happy to be doing

this here now with you.

145

:

Xhafer: Yeah.

146

:

No, this is good.

147

:

I'm glad I get to share this with you.

148

:

This is this is going to be a lot of fun.

149

:

Laura: Mm hmm.

150

:

Xhafer: Spirits are high, they won't be

for forever because, man, some dark shit

151

:

happens in this show.

152

:

Laura: I can already tell.

153

:

Yeah.

154

:

Xhafer: but yeah.

155

:

Alright, well.

156

:

Laura: yeah.

157

:

So set the

158

:

scene for me.

159

:

Where did we start?

160

:

Part two.

161

:

Xhafer: We start part two with Adama,

who is just like, taking a moment because

162

:

the president and his son just died.

163

:

Like, he didn't really know the president.

164

:

He, you know, he met her like

165

:

an hour ago.

166

:

Laura: did really know his son though,

167

:

Xhafer: he he did pretty well know

his son and it's, you know, his other

168

:

son is dead a year and a half ago.

169

:

Like, the wound is still fresh.

170

:

I think they say the funeral was

about a year ago last episode.

171

:

So, you know, that's,

that's rapid succession.

172

:

I can't imagine a parent having to bury a

child, let alone two in consecutive years.

173

:

That has to fuckin suck in

ways that I can't fathom.

174

:

So he takes a minute before he kinda

composes himself and then goes back

175

:

into commander mode because everyone

here will die if he loses his shit.

176

:

And he knows that.

177

:

So, they continue FTL prep.

178

:

down in the docks, Starbuck

lands without an engine.

179

:

Laura: Yeah.

180

:

Starbuck is like some

sort of feral creature.

181

:

She's just, throwin shit at the wall

and seeing what sticks, and I love it.

182

:

I'm here for it.

183

:

Xhafer: Yeah, um, man, what a

terrible haircut they Sackhoff in

184

:

this season, though.

185

:

Laura: Mm, yeah, I don't love the haircut.

186

:

I think there was one point,

187

:

there was one point where I think for

camera angle reasons we're kind of

188

:

looking at the back of her head, and

I was like, this isn't even, like,

189

:

even.

190

:

And it's not,

191

:

like, layered in a nice way, either.

192

:

What did they do to her?

193

:

Xhafer: it is the definition of rough.

194

:

It is the haircut that I get, and

then I look at it, and then I go

195

:

drive to a different barber shop

and get another haircut immediately.

196

:

Laura: Exactly, yeah.

197

:

Xhafer: Starbuck learns of Lee's

death in this moment as well,

198

:

and then she asks about Sharon.

199

:

She does not ask about Lee.

200

:

Hilo or any of the other

pilots who are all dead.

201

:

Laura: Ope.

202

:

Xhafer: only wants to

know if /Sharon's okay.

203

:

after Starbuck asks about Sharon, that's

when we cut over to Sharon on the Raptor.

204

:

We see everyone hiding out back

there, Gaius sees 6BT on the

205

:

Raptor briefly as the Galactica

prepares to jump to Ragnar Station.

206

:

We get the fun little

zoom out effect before

207

:

the jump.

208

:

Laura: Uh Huh.

209

:

Xhafer: the little camera work to make

you feel like you're shrinking a little

210

:

bit.

211

:

Laura: Like, when we're inside,

we feel like, The people are

212

:

zooming.

213

:

Yeah.

214

:

yeah.

215

:

This is interesting.

216

:

I know everybody, every sci fi

series has to like, do their own

217

:

thing to indicate like, faster

than light travel, like Star Trek.

218

:

Yeah.

219

:

We got

220

:

Star Trek.

221

:

We got the uh, stars

streaking by in lines.

222

:

Is that Star Trek or is that

Star Wars or is it both?

223

:

Xhafer: It's both.

224

:

Laura: Okay.

225

:

Xhafer: Not what would

happen, really, but That's

226

:

fine.

227

:

Heh

228

:

Laura: of, a lot of signals that we have

in these sci fi series are not things

229

:

that would really happen with physics.

230

:

Xhafer: Yeah, like, Okay.

231

:

Like, if you think about it, like,

how far away those stars are, right?

232

:

For them to be streaking

past you, that means you're

233

:

traveling all the way past them

234

:

faster than the light can catch

up, which is so absurdly fast.

235

:

It's so much faster than light,

you'd have to be going so

236

:

obscenely fast for that to happen.

237

:

Because, like, if you think about,

like, us and, like, our nearest

238

:

star is ten light years away, right?

239

:

And so it's just, like, that one

240

:

star.

241

:

Heading

242

:

away from Earth to make a streak across

the sky like that until it's gone.

243

:

Also in Star Wars they like stick around.

244

:

They like start as streaks and then

they just become streaks and they

245

:

don't go away when you go past them.

246

:

Which is also kind of weird but like

if you're ever watching an old Star

247

:

Wars before they read some of the

special effects just look at the

248

:

end of the stars that don't move.

249

:

You're in for a

250

:

ride.

251

:

Laura: This is a nifty thing I

252

:

haven't really seen, you know,

in our faster than light travels.

253

:

Babylon 5, it's like a whole, you

know, jump gate thing and streaks

254

:

and stars and other things and this is

just kind of like, we zoom out a little

255

:

bit and then we pop up somewhere else.

256

:

Like, so

257

:

neat.

258

:

Xhafer: You just appear somewhere else.

259

:

It's a jump, and it is like a jump.

260

:

You just land

261

:

somewhere

262

:

else.

263

:

Laura: Yeah.

264

:

And apparently you have to calculate

it with, like, real calculus on paper

265

:

in this universe, and that's fun.

266

:

Xhafer: Yeah, well they

don't trust those computers.

267

:

So.

268

:

Laura: But we did it.

269

:

We got to Ragnar.

270

:

Xhafer: They successfully

jumped to Ragnar.

271

:

We go back to the colonial one where

everyone is fucked up but still alive.

272

:

Lee had set off an EMP which fooled the

273

:

Cylons.

274

:

Laura: Wow.

275

:

So, he took this off of Galactica,

or they took it off of Galactica

276

:

Xhafer: took it off of Galactica.

277

:

Laura: okay.

278

:

Xhafer: Um, because it wasn't, it's

like, I think it's some type of Mew.

279

:

They don't really say what it

280

:

is.

281

:

Laura: Oh, it is kind of like a

weapon, and we're turning this thing

282

:

into a museum, so we're getting

283

:

Xhafer: Yeah, all the munitions

gotta get removed from Galactica.

284

:

I mean, it would make sense, if

you're fighting Robits, to have an

285

:

EMP based weapon.

286

:

Laura: Sure.

287

:

Yeah.

288

:

That

289

:

Xhafer: Turn off the computers,

launch the thing, turn the computers

290

:

back on to move the ship around.

291

:

Good to go.

292

:

Laura: Yeah.

293

:

Yeah.

294

:

Smart.

295

:

So that's the thing that he set off.

296

:

It did make it look like

297

:

they exploded, like there

was a nuclear explosion,

298

:

but the explosion wasn't

them, it was the robots.

299

:

Xhafer: So there, well, there

was no It's the, it looked like,

300

:

just The aftermath in Dratus looked like a

nuclear explosion, but it was just the EMP

301

:

because the EMP would stop any electric

302

:

signal and a

303

:

nuke would make

304

:

Laura: missile that

305

:

was coming at them?

306

:

Xhafer: That would have got disabled

307

:

by the EMP.

308

:

Laura: Okay, so it wasn't the robots

got disabled, but their missile did.

309

:

Xhafer: Yeah, their missiles got disabled.

310

:

Okay, I've done so much legwork.

311

:

Ron Moore, you officially owe me a beer.

312

:

Laura: We could talk to

him about it at next STLV.

313

:

Xhafer: Piss off another content creator.

314

:

Alright, so.

315

:

Laura: Yeah.

316

:

No

317

:

Xhafer: No problems.

318

:

Galactica goes into the space station.

319

:

There's like this storm surrounding the

320

:

station.

321

:

Laura: Yeah.

322

:

So cool.

323

:

So

324

:

Xhafer: Yeah, it's real cool.

325

:

Starbucks says a little

prayer for the lost.

326

:

And as they enter Ragnar station, they

find it unexpectedly slightly inhabited.

327

:

Laura: Yeah.

328

:

We got a weirdo on the station.

329

:

Xhafer: So, I don't think they

said his name during the thing.

330

:

I asked you, you said

you saw it in the closed

331

:

captioning.

332

:

Laura: Yeah.

333

:

For sure.

334

:

If they didn't say it

aloud, it is in the closed

335

:

Xhafer: So we know this is Leoben

uh, and I'm not spoiling that.

336

:

I'm not, his name, it's not a

337

:

spoiler anyways, but.

338

:

Laura: Yeah.

339

:

No.

340

:

He's a rough looking dude at this point.

341

:

He claims that he is a arms smuggler

342

:

Xhafer: Yeah.

343

:

Laura: and

344

:

he was here to just get some stuff.

345

:

Xhafer: Yeah,

346

:

I'm just, just taking some

347

:

Laura: Just stealing.

348

:

Xhafer: Yeah, people have

the right to bear arms.

349

:

That includes nuclear missiles, right?

350

:

Laura: know, right?

351

:

Yeah.

352

:

Yeah.

353

:

And I was like, Hmm, cause they've

painted these 12 colonies almost with

354

:

a little utopian brush like here at

355

:

the very beginning, which, you know,

we often find out in science fiction,

356

:

when we have a little utopia top coat

on everything but like underneath

357

:

there's like seedy shit

everywhere and he's

358

:

like, well, you know these nuclear

arms would have brought a great price

359

:

and it's like So we peeling back the

ulitopia paint there a little bit

360

:

Xhafer: Fucks up in this show.

361

:

R repeatedly.

362

:

I mean, Adama says it at the

very beginning, you know.

363

:

Were we worth saving?

364

:

That question, I don't

think ever gets answered.

365

:

Not really.

366

:

Not in a meaningful way.

367

:

Laura: Yeah.

368

:

I don't know if it's been answered Here.

369

:

So, yeah.

370

:

Okay.

371

:

Xhafer: Yeah.

372

:

Anyways Baltar gets brought to Rosalyn

as Boomer gets orders to jump around

373

:

and find survivors and bring them back.

374

:

We cut over to Tyrell, who de

escalates the situation on Anchorage

375

:

as Gaius tries to ignore She reveals

the bug to shut down the ships

376

:

was in the computer's nav systems.

377

:

And,

378

:

yes.

379

:

Yeah, his nav systems, his algorithms,

that's how they got into everything.

380

:

Laura: Bad, Gaius.

381

:

Not sure it does.

382

:

Xhafer: And she reaffirms that

she might have been on a mission,

383

:

but he was more than that to her.

384

:

Laura: Huh.

385

:

Xhafer: How do we feel

386

:

about this?

387

:

Laura: I'm so confused by Six.

388

:

And I have a feeling I'm supposed to be,

and this is going to persist for a while.

389

:

Xhafer: Yes.

390

:

Laura: Because, you know, she is, like,

fond of Gaius, and in his head somehow, if

391

:

that's really her, or maybe his brain is

just doing things to him, but, but you've

392

:

kind of alluded that She is really there.

393

:

Or maybe it was Aaron that alluded it.

394

:

Maybe it wasn't you.

395

:

Xhafer: I don't think I

would have alluded that.

396

:

That sounds pretty spoiler ly.

397

:

Like, I think I would

have given you the face.

398

:

Laura: Okay.

399

:

Well, it has been alluded that

perhaps it is really her because of

400

:

a physical interaction she had with

Gaius as the explosions were happening.

401

:

Xhafer: Well, she had said that because

he's like, Oh, you're a hallucination.

402

:

And she's all like, Maybe

I put a chip in your

403

:

brain.

404

:

I'm actively beaming

myself into you right now.

405

:

Laura: Uh Huh.

406

:

Xhafer: Because I'm not

done fucking with you.

407

:

Laura: It could be that.

408

:

It could be that Gaius is just

like having some sort of psychotic

409

:

break and is manifesting.

410

:

His own thoughts as her I don't know

why she would be so sympathetic to him,

411

:

but we have seen With the, the scene

with the baby, as awful as that was,

412

:

that she has some complicated feelings

413

:

Xhafer: Yeah.

414

:

Laura: And it's not exactly at this

point, but she leads Gaius to like, hey

415

:

That device right there is a problem.

416

:

Xhafer: Yeah.

417

:

Laura: Up in the ceiling.

418

:

That

419

:

projector That IT installed last week.

420

:

Xhafer: Yeah, that Wi Fi router.

421

:

Bad news.

422

:

Laura: Yeah, so I am so confused.

423

:

And I don't have enough yet

to be conclusive about 6 and

424

:

whose side 6 is really on.

425

:

And, well, not to jump to the end of the

episode, but we see a whole bunch of 6s.

426

:

Xhafer: Yeah.

427

:

Laura: All at once.

428

:

Do they have any individuation?

429

:

Like, could it be that 1 6

430

:

Xhafer: Do the Cylons have individuation?

431

:

Laura: I don't know.

432

:

Xhafer: It's a mystery.

433

:

Laura: Mm hmm.

434

:

Yeah, so I don't, I don't know

what to think about 6 yet.

435

:

I don't have a formed opinion.

436

:

I only have observations.

437

:

Xhafer: Can I go on a very brief tangent?

438

:

Laura: How spoilery is your tangent?

439

:

Xhafer: It's not about

440

:

Battlestar Galactica at all.

441

:

Laura: Okay, then let's have a tangent.

442

:

Xhafer: Um, do you watch anything on

Paramount Plus that is not Star Trek?

443

:

Laura: Nope.

444

:

Xhafer: There is a lovely

little sitcom called Ghosts

445

:

that I highly recommend, and Ghosts

is like a comedy, and in the first

446

:

episode, it's this couple inherits this

old ass mansion in New England, and

447

:

they decide to turn it into a B& B.

448

:

Laura: Of course.

449

:

Xhafer: And one of them falls down the

stairs, almost dies, and can now see all

450

:

of the ghosts that are haunting this, this

451

:

mansion.

452

:

Laura: Oh, fun.

453

:

Xhafer: And so there's a

bunch of different ghosts.

454

:

It's not just, like, all one.

455

:

There was, like, a

Revolutionary War battle there.

456

:

So there's a couple, there's, like,

a Union guy, there's a couple British

457

:

soldiers, there's, like, a Viking there's

a Native American, and there's, like

458

:

Her great great grandmother or something

like for more generations back than that.

459

:

There's like a jazz singer.

460

:

It's there's a Boy Scout from the 80s.

461

:

There's like a Wall

Street bro from the 80s.

462

:

It's fun.

463

:

The show is fun.

464

:

But I watched an interview with

some of the cast and it's all of the

465

:

ghosts interact with the wife, right?

466

:

The husband can't see any of the ghosts.

467

:

Laura: Cool.

468

:

Xhafer: there was a thing

where he was just all like,

469

:

Oh, I'm going to have a chance.

470

:

Like there was like a spoiler or

something that he was going to be

471

:

able to interact with the ghosts

somehow this season for a little bit.

472

:

Right.

473

:

And he's like, I get to actually

hang out with my coworkers.

474

:

Like I don't get to actually

work with any of my coworkers.

475

:

I can never acknowledge their presence.

476

:

I just have to be in scenes while they're

all acting and they can see me, but I

477

:

can't see them and how shitty that is.

478

:

As an actor to not be able to respond

to people in a comedy when they make

479

:

jokes, like nothing is going on, like

the other characters are allowed to laugh

480

:

and he is not.

481

:

Laura: that is weird.

482

:

Xhafer: And that interview is

sticking with me for Tricia Helfer's

483

:

performance here, where she is

in scenes with groups of other

484

:

people and only Baltar can react to

485

:

her.

486

:

Laura: that is especially some of the

provocative stuff she starts doing.

487

:

Xhafer: Yeah, like around people.

488

:

I just like, Oh my

489

:

God.

490

:

Laura: Yeah.

491

:

Xhafer: anyways, that's

what I was thinking about

492

:

while watching this earlier.

493

:

And also watch ghosts.

494

:

It's fun.

495

:

Laura: the interactions that Six

has with Gaius just like escalate

496

:

and escalate and escalate.

497

:

Xhafer: Just wait.

498

:

Um,

499

:

So the yeah, the

500

:

crews loading munitions

onto the Galactica.

501

:

Oh, Dama goes in and

talks to the stowaway.

502

:

This is when he reveals

himself as an arms dealer.

503

:

There is a munitions accident.

504

:

Some bomb spills out.

505

:

They jump into a like, hallway and

the door gets melted shut around

506

:

them.

507

:

So they have to go the long way

508

:

around.

509

:

Laura: Yeah.

510

:

I really was thinking about what

you said in our last recording

511

:

about the not battle tested soldier.

512

:

I was like, these chuckle fucks

513

:

Xhafer: Yeah.

514

:

Laura: being rushing and not being careful

enough with the munitions and we just

515

:

dropped some, like a box of grenades

and they start to explode like, Oh my,

516

:

Xhafer: Yeah.

517

:

Laura: got a lot of learning

518

:

to do and not a lot

519

:

of runway to do it.

520

:

Xhafer: Yep.

521

:

Colonial One has started a

flotilla here, several ships.

522

:

We see these botanical garden ship.

523

:

So pretty to render.

524

:

Must be very

525

:

expensive.

526

:

Laura: Oh, yeah.

527

:

It was very neat.

528

:

And Laura Roslin is

529

:

there at this point talking to their

leadership and meets a little girl.

530

:

Xhafer: Mm hmm.

531

:

Yep.

532

:

Laura: girl's lost her mom

533

:

and dad.

534

:

She's traveling with her grandparents

who are, like, having a heart issue

535

:

due to the shock of everything.

536

:

Oh, my.

537

:

Oh, my.

538

:

Oh, my.

539

:

Oh, my.

540

:

Xhafer: it's going to be a bad time.

541

:

They, we do know they found a refinery

ship, so they have the ability to make

542

:

fuel.

543

:

Laura: Good.

544

:

Mm

545

:

Xhafer: Uh, that is one of

the most important things

546

:

to happen in this episode.

547

:

Laura: Yeah, we're going to

be needing that for a while.

548

:

Xhafer: Yeah.

549

:

They note that was it like 40 percent

of these ships don't have FTL.

550

:

And so, Lee suggests moving them off

of those ships immediately, because

551

:

if they need to run, they're going to

have to be doing it using FTL drive.

552

:

Laura: not fast enough, though.

553

:

Xhafer: Nope, because they're having

this conversation, a Cylon Raider jumps

554

:

in real quick, scans, and then leaves.

555

:

Laura: yeah,

556

:

Xhafer: So they start spinning up

the drives immediately to leave.

557

:

Laura: yeah, Billy points out to

President Rosalind that, that Pretty

558

:

Botanical Gardens does not have FTL.

559

:

They cannot get

560

:

any more people off in this short

amount of time, and the little

561

:

girl she met is going to die.

562

:

Okay.

563

:

Xhafer: Yep.

564

:

Yep, and we see that happen.

565

:

The FTL ships all jump out.

566

:

We see them jumping off in the,

like, background of the botanical

567

:

garden as little girls, they're

568

:

playing with her bunny

569

:

Laura: Cries for help overlaid

over the scene in the background

570

:

other Ships cursing the FTL

571

:

ships, yeah,

572

:

Xhafer: as it just goes to bright

white as they all get nuked.

573

:

Yep, the uh, fleet does

jump to Ragnar though.

574

:

Laura: I just realized something.

575

:

Xhafer: Yeah?

576

:

Laura: So, the PR guy, who is later outed.

577

:

I say PR, he's like a

578

:

reporter or something.

579

:

Doral.

580

:

Xhafer: he is like a

581

:

government employee.

582

:

Laura: Sure, okay, let's call him PR then.

583

:

Xhafer: Yeah.

584

:

Laura: Isn't he one of them who's

like, No, we can't leave people behind.

585

:

Xhafer: Yeah.

586

:

Laura: We can't let all these

587

:

people die.

588

:

Xhafer: Yeah.

589

:

Laura: He wanted all of them

to stay there longer and die.

590

:

Xhafer: Yes, he did.

591

:

He knew exactly what was happening.

592

:

Little things.

593

:

Lots of characters actions.

594

:

Sometimes you think they're for one

thing, really they're for something else.

595

:

Laura: Yeah.

596

:

Xhafer: It's what makes this

such a compelling watch.

597

:

Laura: He has his own incentives

in that moment that have nothing

598

:

to do with what you think they do.

599

:

Xhafer: Yep.

600

:

We cut over to Ragnar.

601

:

Our arms dealer is waxing

philosophical on God, not gods.

602

:

I don't know if you caught that.

603

:

Laura: Yeah.

604

:

Xhafer: the Cylon, we know six is

monotheistic, and that is weird.

605

:

Every, all the humans are

606

:

polytheistic.

607

:

Laura: Uh Huh.

608

:

Xhafer: And Lioban here is also

talking about God in the singular,

609

:

Laura: Yeah.

610

:

Xhafer: which is a clue for

the watcher, the eagle eared

611

:

watcher, that this is a Cylon.

612

:

Laura: the Monotheism seems

like a weird oddity in humans,

613

:

not like a total impossibility

614

:

Xhafer: They're not, yeah,

there's not a lot of them,

615

:

but

616

:

Laura: Yeah.

617

:

And it's sort of like, look

618

:

at those weirdos rather than like, oh,

619

:

you could be dangerous because

you believe in one God.

620

:

Xhafer: Mm hmm.

621

:

Laura: Yeah.

622

:

Um, he is looking rougher.

623

:

He looks the worse in this hallway.

624

:

Xhafer: Yeah, they're

going down the hallway.

625

:

Things are not going well.

626

:

did you know he was a Cylon at this point?

627

:

Were you

628

:

suspicious at all?

629

:

Laura: was a bit suspicious.

630

:

But mostly I was picking up signals that

like this person is bad and I wasn't sure

631

:

like Cylon bad, or are we going to

introduce like Like, other type of

632

:

human who is bad like, you know, the

human who doesn't actually care about

633

:

the collective nature or anything, and

634

:

is doing his own thing.

635

:

And I was very, very, very concerned

when he insists that Adama go first.

636

:

Walk in front

637

:

for a while, I was like, no, no,

638

:

no,

639

:

Xhafer: Do I have to?

640

:

Um, I think I've got the gun.

641

:

Rosalyn comes on board the

Galactica here and gives Tai Hal.

642

:

But they do get him to

turn over some supplies.

643

:

Lee is made the senior pilot.

644

:

While Valeri and Tyrell are reunited.

645

:

Which is Sharon and the Chief.

646

:

Laura: Okay,

647

:

Xhafer: Douala kisses Billy.

648

:

Laura: Huh, okay, so

I didn't even pick up.

649

:

That they were like a little

flirtatious in part one

650

:

Xhafer: Mm hmm.

651

:

Laura: and the whole time in this

episode Because you know, we've been

652

:

kind of alluded to like there is a

Cylon somewhere on Galactica, right?

653

:

I was like, it's

654

:

her.

655

:

It's her.

656

:

She's acting weird.

657

:

It's her

658

:

Xhafer: Mm hmm.

659

:

Laura: and I was

subverted on that I guess.

660

:

Xhafer: Man, I will I

will confer with Aaron.

661

:

But maybe at the end of the season,

we can give you a yes or no on one

662

:

character is a Cylon or not.

663

:

Laura: Oh, okay.

664

:

Cool

665

:

Xhafer: If you, if, if,

does that sound fun?

666

:

Do you think that would ruin it?

667

:

I don't know.

668

:

I don't

669

:

Laura: I I, I'll think on it.

670

:

It sounds fun.

671

:

It sounds like something that I

672

:

would be interested in,

but yeah, no, I, the

673

:

whole, like, every interaction

she had with Billy, and maybe this

674

:

is just my, like, tendency toward

neurotypicalness showing through.

675

:

I

676

:

have tendencies of both, I

think, but I was like, she's,

677

:

she's not doing this right.

678

:

She's not doing affection right.

679

:

She's got to be the robot.

680

:

And

681

:

people are allowed to.

682

:

Show affection in

different ways, but in this

683

:

I was like, are they

telling me she's a robot?

684

:

Xhafer: They really go out of their way

to make some characters kind of feel

685

:

more suspicious than others.

686

:

Laura: Uh Huh.

687

:

And now, now like having a better

understanding of some like neurodiversity

688

:

traits and such, I'm like, are they a

689

:

robot or are they just autistic?

690

:

Like,

691

:

Xhafer: Lee goes to see Kara here as well.

692

:

And then we cut back to Leoban and Adama

here, and Leoban is looking like every

693

:

single frat boy at 3am on Halloween,

the year The Dark Knight came out.

694

:

Laura: oof.

695

:

Xhafer: is just painted white and

696

:

sick as

697

:

hell.

698

:

Laura: Yeah, for sure.

699

:

We get some answers about why

he's been So rapidly declining.

700

:

He jokingly referred to

it as allergies earlier.

701

:

And it seems like maybe

702

:

it is a kind of allergy.

703

:

Xhafer: Mhm.

704

:

Yeah.

705

:

Laura: the robot kind.

706

:

Xhafer: Yeah, Odama Odama's just like,

he knows what the fuck is going on here.

707

:

He's all like, the silica

pathways in your brain can't

708

:

handle this fucking storm, bitch.

709

:

This is why we hid here.

710

:

He just, like, he knows.

711

:

And he opens like, oh, this

was a fucking trap, wasn't it?

712

:

Oops.

713

:

Laura: Man, so that makes me

wonder about what the Cylons knew.

714

:

in the previous history that we don't see.

715

:

Xhafer: Yeah.

716

:

Laura: Because it feels

717

:

like Leoben should have already known,

like the Cylon should have already

718

:

known that these storms were not good.

719

:

Xhafer: I mean, if if it was a

station that was just tucked away

720

:

that they never messed with, right?

721

:

Yeah.

722

:

If there's never any fight there

and no one who went there came back

723

:

during active war, you know, and if

they popped in for a visit, like to

724

:

drop him off, you have to stick around.

725

:

That's one of the things

is it gets worse over time.

726

:

Laura: yeah,

727

:

Xhafer: So

728

:

Laura: And it seems like it's a, it's not

like an hour or two kind of time, but it's

729

:

Xhafer: it seems like

730

:

an eight hour thing.

731

:

Mm

732

:

Laura: yeah, yeah.

733

:

Yep, so he is one of

the 12 models of Cylon.

734

:

Xhafer: hmm.

735

:

Laura: And he's breaking down but

he's still got some fight left in him.

736

:

Xhafer: Yeah.

737

:

Laura: He picks

738

:

on Adama and we see that even

though he is falling apart, he

739

:

is still magnificently strong.

740

:

Xhafer: Yeah.

741

:

Yeah.

742

:

He one arms throws fucking.

743

:

Yeah.

744

:

Real data strength here.

745

:

Laura: Uh Huh.

746

:

Xhafer: Just that android power.

747

:

but Adama fights back

and eventually gets him.

748

:

Over in CIC, Baltar tells Gaeta

the weakness in the computers.

749

:

He's going to purge it from

Galactica's main computers while the

750

:

lieutenant handles the new Vipers.

751

:

But not before he turns the knife

with 6BT rubbing salt in the wound.

752

:

6BT points out that device in CIC

that we were talking about earlier,

753

:

that is Cylon in origin, meaning

that another Cylon is aboard the

754

:

ship.

755

:

Laura: Hmm.

756

:

And it's on the DRADIS console, right?

757

:

Which seems to be a navigation device.

758

:

Which

759

:

maybe is designed, this thing is trying

to like give away their position.

760

:

Xhafer: That would

761

:

make

762

:

Laura: be found faster.

763

:

Xhafer: Or maybe hide things from the

764

:

console.

765

:

Laura: Oh yeah, like if the console's

supposed to detect Cylon ships, it won't.

766

:

Xhafer: Yeah, or if it's supposed

to detect 20, it detects 1.

767

:

Laura: Mm hmm.

768

:

Xhafer: You know.

769

:

Laura: Yeah.

770

:

Xhafer: That kind of stuff.

771

:

Laura: Not good.

772

:

Xhafer: This is when Baltar

decides to throw Doral

773

:

under a bus.

774

:

Laura: Mm hmm.

775

:

And then I was screaming at the TV

776

:

that it wasn't him.

777

:

Xhafer: Yeah, well, and even 6BT

is all like, I don't know, I didn't

778

:

see him at any of the Cylon parties.

779

:

Laura: Yeah.

780

:

What a weird thing to say.

781

:

Like,

782

:

Xhafer: honestly, this, I think

it's one of the most telling lines

783

:

about the nature of Six and Baltar.

784

:

Laura: yeah.

785

:

Xhafer: to say anything else about

it, but I think it's very, it, it, it

786

:

kind of puts a spin, a dimension on.

787

:

What's going on

788

:

there?

789

:

Laura: Mm hmm.

790

:

Yeah.

791

:

And I could see it spinning either way.

792

:

Like, yes, she is in his

793

:

head, but she's being a jackass about it.

794

:

Or B, no, she is like a

figment of his trauma.

795

:

And, yeah.

796

:

He can't, he can't actually fill in

that gap, and so she's just being

797

:

a jackass to him in his brain.

798

:

Xhafer: Adama Uh, Adama,

uh, comes back here too.

799

:

Bringing the news of the humanoid Cylon.

800

:

Luckily for Baltar.

801

:

But he goes to see Lee first.

802

:

They hug and decide that they

can be mad at each other later.

803

:

Laura: yeah.

804

:

Xhafer: Baltar gets assigned to figuring

out who the humanoid Cylons are.

805

:

Starbuck owns some

culpability in Zack's death.

806

:

Doral, Yeah, Doral is arrested.

807

:

And Baltar gets Tai interested

in the Cylon device in CIC.

808

:

All that happens

809

:

very rapidly.

810

:

Uh huh.

811

:

Laura: I was having vibes when Starbuck

and Apollo are having their discussion.

812

:

And maybe this is just me also

not being able to, like, read

813

:

people and cues and stuff.

814

:

Xhafer: Okay.

815

:

Laura: But I was like, did

he have thoughts for her?

816

:

And was maybe a little

jealous of his brother?

817

:

I wonder.

818

:

Xhafer: There's a little bit of will they

won't they with Starbuck and Lee, um,

819

:

that I won't say anything else about.

820

:

But you did not miss, there was nothing,

I don't want to say this, you did

821

:

not read something that wasn't there.

822

:

Laura: Okay.

823

:

Xhafer: What, what you, what the

vibe you felt was placed there on

824

:

purpose.

825

:

Yes.

826

:

Laura: like, making something

up into the scene, as I have

827

:

done before and will do again.

828

:

Xhafer: Yeah.

829

:

Laura: This time,

830

:

not that.

831

:

Uh, Yeah, Starbuck admits, basically,

that she was too infatuated or

832

:

influenced by her relationship with Zack.

833

:

And she should have failed him.

834

:

from his basic flight

course, or whatever it was.

835

:

And she didn't fail him and

let him continue on, and

836

:

for that he lost his life.

837

:

Man,

838

:

Xhafer: Yep.

839

:

Laura: humans

840

:

are messing up all over the place

in this show, right off the bat.

841

:

Xhafer: This is, of all of the mess

ups humans make, this is probably

842

:

really low on the scale.

843

:

Laura: Well, yeah, I mean it's like low

on the the, ranking of mess ups, but

844

:

at the same time you think about it.

845

:

And you just, if you just categorize

it at a higher level of, like,

846

:

relationship over duty, that can become a

847

:

much bigger mess up.

848

:

Xhafer: Yeah.

849

:

Laura: This is an inter,

850

:

interpersonal one, in where it's like,

two, two humans individually cause

851

:

it, and one of them pays for it but,

It could be done on a much larger

852

:

scale in other ways, perhaps later.

853

:

I don't know.

854

:

I will see.

855

:

Xhafer: Yeah.

856

:

They removed that device

in C I N C and C I C.

857

:

In Battlestar

858

:

it is C I C.

859

:

Laura: Oh, we're going to call it C C.

860

:

so much, aren't

861

:

Xhafer: In ba in Babylon.

862

:

Five.

863

:

It is CNC.

864

:

Laura: Where we just lived

for like the last two years.

865

:

So

866

:

Xhafer: I

867

:

Laura: forgive us a few

868

:

Xhafer: in the expanse too.

869

:

Yeah.

870

:

It's gonna ha it's gonna happen a ton.

871

:

It'll, it will happen more than me

saying Sinclair, when I met Sheridan.

872

:

So, they removed the device.

873

:

They look for other one while

Starbuck pops out of the

874

:

Ragnar storm to find a Cy fleet

875

:

Just waiting.

876

:

Laura: Just so many of them, just

nothing but ships, wall of ships.

877

:

Xhafer: two big ol base stars.

878

:

All kinds of other stuff.

879

:

Laura: Yeah, so interesting.

880

:

We call them base stars.

881

:

That's kind of like a mothership, yes?

882

:

Xhafer: Yeah, it's Cylon

Base Stars and Colonial

883

:

Battle Stars.

884

:

Laura: Yeah, that's not

going to be confusing at all.

885

:

Xhafer: That is straight from the

original terminology that they kept, and,

886

:

you know.

887

:

Laura: Uh Huh.

888

:

Yep, it happens.

889

:

Xhafer: Yep.

890

:

Laura: Speaking of

891

:

words, we're going to mess

up throughout this series.

892

:

Xhafer: Adam and Rosalyn talk.

893

:

About a wave forward here and

one isn't really found here.

894

:

Uh, The commander wants to go back

and fight this war, and Rosalind

895

:

holds that this war is already over.

896

:

So,

897

:

Laura: Like, I don't know if they've

said, like, put a number on, Um, How many

898

:

humans were on these 12 colonies of Cobol?

899

:

Xhafer: billions,

900

:

Laura: Uh Huh.

901

:

Xhafer: definitely billions

with a B, um, and that's 40

902

:

years after a devastating war.

903

:

That's not enough time to

904

:

recoup from that.

905

:

Um, the kind of

906

:

losses that they suffered.

907

:

So,

908

:

Laura: And, to our knowledge, we

909

:

have 50, 000 survivors?

910

:

Xhafer: Um, we have a number from before

any of the non FTL ships get blown up.

911

:

Laura: Mm hmm.

912

:

Xhafer: We don't get a number of

after until the opening credits

913

:

of the next episode.

914

:

Laura: Oh, good.

915

:

Oh,

916

:

Xhafer: that's part of the thing with

this show is we get a running total of how

917

:

many humans are left alive in the credits

918

:

Laura: Jesus.

919

:

not going to be stressful at all.

920

:

My point being though you know,

once we get into this fraction where

921

:

we have, you know, billions on the

bottom being the original total

922

:

and tens of thousands left on

the top give or take a 10, 000

923

:

doesn't really matter to me.

924

:

Like, the, the point is

that fraction is insane.

925

:

Right.

926

:

Xhafer: Yeah.

927

:

Laura: Right.

928

:

So, materially, another 10, 000

or so doesn't move the needle.

929

:

Doesn't matter.

930

:

Xhafer: It would be, was it

a thousandth of a percent or

931

:

something?

932

:

Laura: yeah, I, I don't even know.

933

:

Xhafer: Well, we don't, I don't

know if we get a number on how many

934

:

billions, because

935

:

that factor of 10 will also

936

:

change things.

937

:

Laura: Yeah.

938

:

So, Adon Adama is maybe still a

little bit in, like, his trauma

939

:

feelings of fight, fight, fight.

940

:

And Rosalind

941

:

has moved over to flight, flight, flight,

942

:

because.

943

:

Looking at, at her high level view,

she's doing like mental math about

944

:

we have tens of thousands of humans.

945

:

This is it.

946

:

And we need to

947

:

start multiplying or we will

not have enough to continue

948

:

anywhere in the universe.

949

:

Xhafer: Yeah.

950

:

The lack of genetic diversity in the

951

:

remaining populace.

952

:

Laura: Already probably not good, yeah?

953

:

Xhafer: Not great.

954

:

Um, it does seem to be pretty like.

955

:

Multicultural.

956

:

Laura: Yeah.

957

:

Xhafer: Um, it's not like a

ship of a thousand was like

958

:

one giant family or something.

959

:

it could be worse.

960

:

But it is, it is not good.

961

:

And will be a plot point

962

:

in the future.

963

:

Laura: And in this scene, it starts

out with, you know, discussion of,

964

:

it turns out, one of these ships that

they managed to gather of survivors

965

:

has a bunch of prisoners on it.

966

:

They were, like, transferring prisoners

967

:

from one colony to another

or something or to a,

968

:

some sort of prison colony maybe

969

:

Xhafer: We, we get to that

970

:

very soon.

971

:

Laura: Ah,

972

:

Xhafer: That, that, that is

That is going to be a thing.

973

:

Um, actually uh, that's

the episode that Scott from

974

:

Gray17 is going to be joining

975

:

Laura: Oh, lovely.

976

:

I cannot wait for his take, because

this is such a complicated situation.

977

:

You know, you've gone

from, we talked about the

978

:

fraction, the billions,

to the tens of thousands.

979

:

Now you have people who have like

broken the social contract in

980

:

some way, it, such that they are,

981

:

were to be punished, well, now

you don't have as many resources

982

:

to, one, enact that punishment.

983

:

And two, take, like,

jeans out of your pool.

984

:

Xhafer: Yeah.

985

:

Laura: So,

986

:

Xhafer: And there's

987

:

also a whole

988

:

side about, like, prison life and prisons

in society and What that's like here,

989

:

you know, and that's also

something I want to talk to Scott

990

:

about.

991

:

Um, and then there's a whole other thing

with that episode and a guest star that

992

:

is also something that we want to talk

with Scott about, but you don't know

993

:

about it yet.

994

:

Laura: Ugh, So

995

:

interesting.

996

:

Just, just this premise being planted

here in this miniseries, I'm like,

997

:

this is so

998

:

complicated, and I, Don't envy anyone

who ever has to think about this,

999

:

like, like in a serious way, you

know, it's a thought experiment for

:

00:44:24,503 --> 00:44:24,923

us.

:

00:44:24,943 --> 00:44:28,643

It's a little art

exploration for Ronald D.

:

00:44:28,643 --> 00:44:31,703

Moore and the creators of the

show, but it's not a serious

:

00:44:31,713 --> 00:44:33,153

thing we have to grapple with.

:

00:44:34,843 --> 00:44:35,083

Whew.

:

00:44:35,844 --> 00:44:41,620

Xhafer: over in CIC, The commander,

the XO, the captain, and the lieutenant

:

00:44:42,160 --> 00:44:44,950

discuss the options for FTL jumps.

:

00:44:45,510 --> 00:44:48,690

And it's at this point that Billy

is over there talking to Douala.

:

00:44:49,413 --> 00:44:49,983

Laura: Again.

:

00:44:50,290 --> 00:44:50,970

Xhafer: and again,

:

00:44:51,000 --> 00:44:56,580

and Adama sees them, and is all

like, Gotta start having babies.

:

00:44:57,200 --> 00:44:57,830

Like,

:

00:44:58,540 --> 00:45:02,900

he sees that, he understands what

is actually at stake at this point,

:

00:45:03,500 --> 00:45:05,540

and decides that they need to run.

:

00:45:06,733 --> 00:45:06,943

Laura: Yep.

:

00:45:07,347 --> 00:45:07,737

He

:

00:45:07,737 --> 00:45:08,987

is converted to

:

00:45:08,987 --> 00:45:09,547

flight.

:

00:45:09,628 --> 00:45:10,138

Xhafer: Yep.

:

00:45:10,238 --> 00:45:14,788

Adama has gated up, planned the

largest recorded jump in history.

:

00:45:16,108 --> 00:45:19,038

Which they don't, they don't reference,

they don't say it a ton, but they're just

:

00:45:19,068 --> 00:45:21,018

going into completely uncharted space.

:

00:45:21,018 --> 00:45:23,358

They're going out past

where any ship has ever

:

00:45:23,358 --> 00:45:23,678

been.

:

00:45:24,307 --> 00:45:24,787

Laura: Yeah.

:

00:45:24,997 --> 00:45:27,127

So I think they referenced

:

00:45:27,458 --> 00:45:28,138

Xhafer: They call it the Red

:

00:45:28,138 --> 00:45:28,568

Line.

:

00:45:29,337 --> 00:45:30,117

Laura: Ah, okay.

:

00:45:30,117 --> 00:45:36,687

And I was trying to figure out, like, is

the red line, like, just a, a boundary in

:

00:45:36,687 --> 00:45:42,757

space or is it like we're trying to jump

past a Cylon fleet or a Cylon something?

:

00:45:42,927 --> 00:45:44,787

Like I, I didn't, wasn't sure.

:

00:45:45,078 --> 00:45:46,398

Xhafer: You know, that would make sense.

:

00:45:46,608 --> 00:45:48,948

If the Red Line was like, Cylon territory.

:

00:45:49,858 --> 00:45:50,318

Given.

:

00:45:50,953 --> 00:45:52,533

The silence and the red eye

:

00:45:52,553 --> 00:45:52,863

thing.

:

00:45:53,483 --> 00:45:57,803

Um, but I believe it's just I think

it's just where a ship has been.

:

00:45:58,253 --> 00:45:59,083

It's just explored

:

00:45:59,083 --> 00:45:59,543

space.

:

00:46:00,357 --> 00:46:00,677

Laura: Okay.

:

00:46:01,027 --> 00:46:02,077

Beyond the rim.

:

00:46:02,473 --> 00:46:02,913

Xhafer: Yeah.

:

00:46:03,893 --> 00:46:07,143

Um, they're gonna keep the

destination quiet because they

:

00:46:07,143 --> 00:46:08,373

don't know who they can trust.

:

00:46:08,747 --> 00:46:09,077

Laura: Yeah.

:

00:46:09,083 --> 00:46:12,134

Xhafer: the Battlestar, they're gonna do

all the calculations and then just send

:

00:46:12,154 --> 00:46:13,144

them to the fleet.

:

00:46:13,987 --> 00:46:14,407

Laura: Yeah.

:

00:46:14,667 --> 00:46:15,767

And just be like, go here.

:

00:46:16,094 --> 00:46:16,444

Xhafer: Yep.

:

00:46:17,014 --> 00:46:17,614

Go here,

:

00:46:17,694 --> 00:46:18,274

go now.

:

00:46:18,782 --> 00:46:20,332

Laura: It makes you wonder as well.

:

00:46:21,222 --> 00:46:25,092

How many of these other ships

could be infected with the Cylon?

:

00:46:25,092 --> 00:46:28,457

Ha ha ha

:

00:46:28,457 --> 00:46:30,700

ha ha.

:

00:46:30,700 --> 00:46:31,821

Hmm.

:

00:46:33,502 --> 00:46:35,192

But, so here's the other thing.

:

00:46:35,913 --> 00:46:36,203

Xhafer: Alright.

:

00:46:36,742 --> 00:46:37,342

Laura: We only have

:

00:46:37,342 --> 00:46:38,752

12 models of Cylon.

:

00:46:39,363 --> 00:46:39,713

Xhafer: Mhm.

:

00:46:40,392 --> 00:46:40,882

Laura: And

:

00:46:40,892 --> 00:46:46,862

we are getting very close to seeing

that the models that That we know

:

00:46:46,862 --> 00:46:50,152

about the Lioban, the Six, the Doral.

:

00:46:50,162 --> 00:46:52,062

They all look exactly the same.

:

00:46:52,543 --> 00:46:52,873

Xhafer: Mhm.

:

00:46:53,752 --> 00:46:57,442

Laura: So when you have a population

of billions, again, it would be

:

00:46:57,442 --> 00:47:01,202

extremely easy to hide one of

twelve models anywhere you want.

:

00:47:02,192 --> 00:47:04,612

Now we have a much smaller population.

:

00:47:05,413 --> 00:47:05,793

Xhafer: Mhm.

:

00:47:06,912 --> 00:47:11,612

Laura: It seems like it's not as easy

to embed Cylons in places anymore.

:

00:47:12,583 --> 00:47:19,053

Xhafer: Yeah, well, The fleet

right now knows Leoben, right?

:

00:47:19,717 --> 00:47:20,007

Laura: Uh Huh.

:

00:47:20,958 --> 00:47:24,658

Xhafer: And if they see another

Doral, they'll know because

:

00:47:24,658 --> 00:47:25,768

they left him at Ragnar.

:

00:47:26,237 --> 00:47:26,677

Laura: Right.

:

00:47:27,367 --> 00:47:28,947

I guess the fleet does not

:

00:47:28,947 --> 00:47:29,667

know Six.

:

00:47:29,687 --> 00:47:31,557

Gaius Baltar knows Six.

:

00:47:32,018 --> 00:47:33,068

Xhafer: Baltar knows Six.

:

00:47:33,068 --> 00:47:33,138

Yes.

:

00:47:34,068 --> 00:47:37,988

And that's it for what any human knows.

:

00:47:38,497 --> 00:47:38,687

Laura: Yeah.

:

00:47:39,448 --> 00:47:43,298

Xhafer: So there's still

plenty of mystery to

:

00:47:43,298 --> 00:47:44,038

be had.

:

00:47:45,107 --> 00:47:49,147

Laura: Now, I don't think this is a

spoilery question, and I think I did pose

:

00:47:49,147 --> 00:47:55,837

it to Erin when they say 12 models of

Cylon, that is the 12 humanoid models?

:

00:47:56,067 --> 00:47:58,167

Because I was thinking,

like, the little battle bots?

:

00:47:59,102 --> 00:48:00,612

are a model.

:

00:48:00,802 --> 00:48:04,222

So I was thinking, okay, we know

BattleBots, we know Doral, we know Leoben.

:

00:48:04,722 --> 00:48:11,012

And Aaron was saying, no, that's,

the BattleBots is outside of that.

:

00:48:11,508 --> 00:48:13,938

Xhafer: So this is the question

you asked me last episode and I

:

00:48:13,938 --> 00:48:15,038

gave you the face for.

:

00:48:15,712 --> 00:48:17,142

Laura: Did I ask this last episode?

:

00:48:17,368 --> 00:48:20,658

Xhafer: You asked this last episode,

but apparently Aaron has answered it.

:

00:48:21,128 --> 00:48:24,078

So it is, there are 12 humanoid Cylon

:

00:48:24,078 --> 00:48:24,668

models.

:

00:48:25,452 --> 00:48:27,392

Laura: That's, that was

Aaron's impression as well.

:

00:48:27,402 --> 00:48:30,112

So that is an established

thing in the series.

:

00:48:30,152 --> 00:48:30,562

Okay.

:

00:48:30,613 --> 00:48:32,303

Xhafer: Yes, whether or not

you're supposed to know it at

:

00:48:32,303 --> 00:48:33,693

this point, I don't think so.

:

00:48:33,753 --> 00:48:34,353

But,

:

00:48:34,892 --> 00:48:35,222

Laura: Yeah.

:

00:48:35,842 --> 00:48:38,372

And I wasn't like, I don't know.

:

00:48:38,792 --> 00:48:41,737

I wasn't like, agonizing

over the question.

:

00:48:41,737 --> 00:48:44,867

I was just like, well, if the battle

bots are one and it seems like the

:

00:48:44,867 --> 00:48:49,823

ships might be their own model of

Cylon, like, doesn't, mean that,

:

00:48:50,673 --> 00:48:52,943

you know, if we have robots, right?

:

00:48:53,003 --> 00:48:55,333

We, our ships don't need a pilot.

:

00:48:55,393 --> 00:48:56,883

The ship is the pilot.

:

00:48:56,893 --> 00:48:58,333

So that would be a model of Cylon.

:

00:48:58,343 --> 00:49:01,863

Like I was just kind of taking it off in

my head, like, well then, but that doesn't

:

00:49:01,863 --> 00:49:03,643

make for a very interesting show, does it?

:

00:49:03,643 --> 00:49:05,243

If we tick off like five of

:

00:49:05,243 --> 00:49:05,573

them

:

00:49:05,829 --> 00:49:06,409

Xhafer: but it does.

:

00:49:06,649 --> 00:49:15,529

Well, I will say the ships being robots

themselves is a compelling plot point.

:

00:49:15,529 --> 00:49:19,329

So,

:

00:49:19,503 --> 00:49:21,643

Laura: assumed that they

would be robots themselves.

:

00:49:21,643 --> 00:49:23,403

They would be their own individual thing.

:

00:49:23,483 --> 00:49:23,893

So,

:

00:49:24,214 --> 00:49:29,324

Xhafer: We finally get to see what

an armed Galactica can do here.

:

00:49:29,324 --> 00:49:34,394

So, they've restocked, they're

planning the jump, the Battlestar's

:

00:49:34,424 --> 00:49:37,984

gonna go out and hold the line while

all the civilians leave the storm to

:

00:49:37,984 --> 00:49:39,854

safely jump away, and then they will

:

00:49:39,854 --> 00:49:40,384

follow.

:

00:49:41,044 --> 00:49:47,270

Laura: Yeah, we've got to hold the line

and let the innocent civilians escape.

:

00:49:47,522 --> 00:49:47,932

Xhafer: Yeah.

:

00:49:48,880 --> 00:49:56,310

Laura: And this makes me wonder, you know,

we're in a munitions universe, right?

:

00:49:56,450 --> 00:49:57,360

We don't have PPU

:

00:49:57,360 --> 00:50:02,213

lasers and we had to jump to

Ragnar to get all this munitions.

:

00:50:02,395 --> 00:50:02,785

Xhafer: hmm.

:

00:50:03,233 --> 00:50:03,553

Laura: At some

:

00:50:03,553 --> 00:50:09,183

point you're going to have to either,

Make more munitions or figure out other

:

00:50:09,183 --> 00:50:13,563

things that you can throw in your guns

and cannons to shoot holes and stuff.

:

00:50:13,655 --> 00:50:19,620

Xhafer: I I do not have a perfect memory

of this, but if I had to compare it to

:

00:50:19,680 --> 00:50:23,130

something, it is Voyager and Shuttles.

:

00:50:23,130 --> 00:50:28,900

It is a plot point when it needs

to be, and it is completely

:

00:50:28,900 --> 00:50:30,240

ignored the rest of the time.

:

00:50:32,649 --> 00:50:34,329

I could be mistaken, but I do

:

00:50:34,329 --> 00:50:35,419

think that's how it's handled.

:

00:50:35,982 --> 00:50:39,152

Laura: Mean that could that's the

thing like you could make some episodes

:

00:50:39,152 --> 00:50:43,102

out of that of like us trying to

find something to jam in our guns

:

00:50:43,669 --> 00:50:49,819

Xhafer: Well, it's just like, so,

when you see a bullet in space, right?

:

00:50:49,819 --> 00:50:49,869

Indeed.

:

00:50:50,784 --> 00:50:54,604

Like when you see, when there's a bullet

with a streak, just, it's probably

:

00:50:54,604 --> 00:50:59,664

operates a lot like how that works

here on earth, which those are tracer

:

00:50:59,664 --> 00:51:04,324

rounds you put in fully automatic

weapons because you use those to aim.

:

00:51:05,734 --> 00:51:09,529

And depending on how fast your gun

is firing, it is somewhere between

:

00:51:09,529 --> 00:51:15,074

one in 10 to one in a hundred

bullets being fired that is visible.

:

00:51:16,556 --> 00:51:18,476

So keeping that in mind.

:

00:51:19,041 --> 00:51:22,031

Future technology, big ol guns, right?

:

00:51:22,101 --> 00:51:23,991

We see these guns, they're massive guns.

:

00:51:24,688 --> 00:51:26,858

Where the fuck are all these bullets?

:

00:51:27,028 --> 00:51:31,128

Because I feel like Galactica

fires enough bullets to empty

:

00:51:31,228 --> 00:51:33,348

the inside of it entirely.

:

00:51:33,768 --> 00:51:37,128

Like, if the entire ship was

filled with just bullets, it

:

00:51:37,128 --> 00:51:38,688

would be empty after this fight.

:

00:51:39,622 --> 00:51:39,962

Laura: right

:

00:51:40,978 --> 00:51:41,378

Xhafer: Like,

:

00:51:41,738 --> 00:51:42,098

part of

:

00:51:42,162 --> 00:51:42,602

Laura: where are we

:

00:51:42,602 --> 00:51:43,562

storing the bullets?

:

00:51:43,778 --> 00:51:44,661

Xhafer: wants to sit and count.

:

00:51:44,661 --> 00:51:51,578

Like, okay, if we assume 1 in

100 is a visible round, and we

:

00:51:51,578 --> 00:51:55,843

see A hundred thousand bullets

get fired out of Galactica.

:

00:51:56,594 --> 00:51:59,354

We are now at a hundred

million bullets fired.

:

00:52:01,394 --> 00:52:03,294

If they are the size of the cannons,

:

00:52:04,144 --> 00:52:04,804

right?

:

00:52:04,964 --> 00:52:08,864

Like, where, physically, how

much space does this take up?

:

00:52:08,914 --> 00:52:11,614

And everything we see them

load on is tiny, right?

:

00:52:11,702 --> 00:52:12,082

Laura: Mm hmm.

:

00:52:12,874 --> 00:52:14,894

Xhafer: Like, there's big cases

full of stuff, but everything

:

00:52:14,894 --> 00:52:16,064

we see opened up is tiny.

:

00:52:16,794 --> 00:52:18,534

So, I don't know,

:

00:52:18,967 --> 00:52:24,017

Laura: Maybe we've hit the portion

of Galactica storyline where we're

:

00:52:24,017 --> 00:52:26,467

supposed to just gloss over it a

:

00:52:26,698 --> 00:52:28,078

Xhafer: just stop asking questions.

:

00:52:28,688 --> 00:52:32,878

maybe, Maybe I'll do a little

research because we're recording

:

00:52:32,878 --> 00:52:34,998

these two pretty back to back.

:

00:52:35,338 --> 00:52:37,958

The next one we probably won't

record for another week some.

:

00:52:38,275 --> 00:52:42,655

maybe, maybe I can see if anyone else was

complaining about this on the internet.

:

00:52:42,955 --> 00:52:46,105

There is no Midwinter, as

far as I know, for Battlestar

:

00:52:46,105 --> 00:52:46,575

Galactica, so.

:

00:52:47,128 --> 00:52:49,558

Laura: Oh, if there is,

someone's gonna tell us.

:

00:52:49,675 --> 00:52:51,445

Xhafer: Yeah, which,

awesome, I want to know.

:

00:52:52,035 --> 00:52:53,125

I did get the book.

:

00:52:53,539 --> 00:52:54,159

Laura: Oh, neat.

:

00:52:54,446 --> 00:53:00,026

Xhafer: There, there is a book that

was collected by people interviewing

:

00:53:00,026 --> 00:53:01,496

people while the show was being made.

:

00:53:01,976 --> 00:53:04,526

About all kinds of fun stories

about the show being made.

:

00:53:04,526 --> 00:53:08,126

And every good article that I've ever

read about Battlestar Galactica getting

:

00:53:08,126 --> 00:53:11,476

made references a story from this book.

:

00:53:11,779 --> 00:53:12,239

Laura: Oh, neat.

:

00:53:13,256 --> 00:53:15,226

Xhafer: And it's, it's

called, so say we all,

:

00:53:15,603 --> 00:53:15,763

and

:

00:53:15,763 --> 00:53:20,723

it's by the guys who do all the Star

Trek books, like the, the 50 year

:

00:53:20,723 --> 00:53:25,573

history, Star Trek, like series that came

out, the oral histories of Star Trek.

:

00:53:25,573 --> 00:53:26,593

It's the same guys.

:

00:53:26,953 --> 00:53:27,303

So

:

00:53:27,837 --> 00:53:29,447

I got to read that anyways.

:

00:53:29,527 --> 00:53:31,727

We see a lot of vipers get blown up here.

:

00:53:32,227 --> 00:53:37,337

But Starbuck saves Apollo, the fighters

all return but we have a tense moment

:

00:53:37,337 --> 00:53:43,247

with Starbuck who rams Apollo, catches his

wing, and brings him back to the barn as

:

00:53:43,267 --> 00:53:46,447

the Battlestar jumps away and rejoins the

:

00:53:46,447 --> 00:53:46,917

fleet.

:

00:53:47,865 --> 00:53:49,845

Laura: This is wild.

:

00:53:51,507 --> 00:53:52,977

Xhafer: This is so cool!

:

00:53:53,775 --> 00:53:54,305

Laura: Yeah.

:

00:53:54,635 --> 00:53:59,665

I do love that our little vipers, you

know, they sort of have like almost

:

00:53:59,685 --> 00:54:01,555

an X wingy kind of feel to them.

:

00:54:01,655 --> 00:54:03,385

We don't have the big like wings, but

:

00:54:03,385 --> 00:54:05,605

we have that big long nose thing going on.

:

00:54:05,605 --> 00:54:10,820

And our little noses have,

like, little maneuvering

:

00:54:10,820 --> 00:54:13,860

thruster things on them, and the

:

00:54:13,870 --> 00:54:15,980

space physics I'm, I'm happy with.

:

00:54:16,360 --> 00:54:17,100

Enjoying that.

:

00:54:18,197 --> 00:54:18,607

Xhafer: Yes.

:

00:54:18,617 --> 00:54:20,847

It's not quite the Starfury.

:

00:54:21,647 --> 00:54:27,847

But, But, Viper is probably, especially

the Viper in these, where they went out of

:

00:54:27,847 --> 00:54:34,167

their way to make a design that wouldn't

necessarily be the best in space, but it's

:

00:54:34,167 --> 00:54:37,127

also designed for atmospheres, as we see.

:

00:54:37,557 --> 00:54:39,477

Um, so,

:

00:54:40,641 --> 00:54:41,171

Laura: Yeah.

:

00:54:41,731 --> 00:54:42,141

Yeah.

:

00:54:42,181 --> 00:54:42,531

And is

:

00:54:42,531 --> 00:54:46,471

she back in a regular Viper, like a modern

Viper at this point, or is she still

:

00:54:47,627 --> 00:54:51,487

Xhafer: I think they're gonna be in

the old ones for a long ass time.

:

00:54:52,301 --> 00:54:52,701

Laura: Okay.

:

00:54:53,277 --> 00:54:56,947

Xhafer: I don't think they

get any new ones as a restock.

:

00:54:58,247 --> 00:55:02,897

You know, like it's, all the new

ones got wiped out, so they just got

:

00:55:02,897 --> 00:55:02,947

a

:

00:55:02,961 --> 00:55:03,411

Laura: Yeah.

:

00:55:03,597 --> 00:55:04,307

Xhafer: hanging around right

:

00:55:04,451 --> 00:55:07,151

Laura: I thought they had some, some

of the new ones left, and they were

:

00:55:07,171 --> 00:55:09,141

purging the software from them, or

:

00:55:09,257 --> 00:55:13,547

Xhafer: They make reference of that,

but I don't think we see them for a

:

00:55:13,557 --> 00:55:14,077

minute.

:

00:55:14,546 --> 00:55:15,076

Laura: Yeah.

:

00:55:15,366 --> 00:55:15,796

Yeah.

:

00:55:15,876 --> 00:55:19,196

So she's flying around in just

a, an old one and then Apollo

:

00:55:19,196 --> 00:55:22,396

has his dad's old Viper, right?

:

00:55:22,941 --> 00:55:23,281

Okay.

:

00:55:23,331 --> 00:55:26,051

But yeah, they both get they

both take a little bit of damage

:

00:55:26,071 --> 00:55:29,311

here in this maneuvering process.

:

00:55:30,112 --> 00:55:30,592

Xhafer: Yeah.

:

00:55:31,362 --> 00:55:36,077

Uh, They land, the fleet jumps

away, And then we get what is the

:

00:55:36,077 --> 00:55:41,877

defining moment of the miniseries,

Adama's call to find Earth.

:

00:55:42,997 --> 00:55:44,507

So, fun fact,

:

00:55:45,068 --> 00:55:45,398

Laura: Uh Huh.

:

00:55:45,975 --> 00:55:48,545

Xhafer: he was supposed to

say, so say we all once.

:

00:55:49,737 --> 00:55:49,927

It

:

00:55:50,041 --> 00:55:51,131

Laura: so that is all just like

:

00:55:51,371 --> 00:55:52,491

improvising.

:

00:55:52,697 --> 00:55:56,267

Xhafer: It was not, originally planned

as a call and response like this.

:

00:55:56,946 --> 00:55:57,606

Laura: Uh Huh.

:

00:55:57,882 --> 00:56:02,742

Xhafer: So they started shooting

this in like October:

:

00:56:04,862 --> 00:56:07,262

This is one of the first

scenes that they shot.

:

00:56:07,922 --> 00:56:13,842

And whenever you hear anyone talking

about it, it's just like everyone on

:

00:56:13,842 --> 00:56:16,962

set this day was just a fucking mess.

:

00:56:17,422 --> 00:56:18,822

Everyone was fucking tired.

:

00:56:18,832 --> 00:56:19,952

Everyone was broken.

:

00:56:20,799 --> 00:56:21,209

Laura: Yeah.

:

00:56:21,415 --> 00:56:24,375

Xhafer: so, I don't know the exact

timing, but it whenever Edward James

:

00:56:24,375 --> 00:56:29,685

Olmos talks about it, he talks about

the, the 9 11 was looming present.

:

00:56:29,685 --> 00:56:30,275

And

:

00:56:30,970 --> 00:56:34,520

On the set that day, maybe it was a

year after and it was the anniversary

:

00:56:34,520 --> 00:56:41,633

or something, but uh, so this, so say

we all was like, both him as an actor

:

00:56:41,633 --> 00:56:49,233

and him portraying the character, trying

to rally the characters, but also the

:

00:56:49,253 --> 00:56:50,013

actors,

:

00:56:50,891 --> 00:56:51,341

Laura: Mm

:

00:56:51,733 --> 00:56:54,523

Xhafer: um, and turning it into that

call and response because, like,

:

00:56:54,523 --> 00:56:56,203

that first one came out kind of weak.

:

00:56:56,273 --> 00:57:01,083

And everyone was kind of bummed,

and so he just kept going.

:

00:57:01,533 --> 00:57:03,963

And then he brings it

back at the end, too.

:

00:57:04,363 --> 00:57:06,973

And it's so fucking good.

:

00:57:06,973 --> 00:57:08,583

It's so powerful.

:

00:57:09,393 --> 00:57:10,063

This scene.

:

00:57:11,260 --> 00:57:15,700

Laura: This is the start

of, like, the emotion.

:

00:57:16,275 --> 00:57:19,315

here at the end that was so

:

00:57:19,365 --> 00:57:23,835

profound, um, and maybe

it started earlier.

:

00:57:23,845 --> 00:57:28,435

Maybe it started when Laura Roslin put

Adama in his place a little bit with

:

00:57:28,435 --> 00:57:30,575

like, these people need to have babies.

:

00:57:31,445 --> 00:57:31,995

Um,

:

00:57:33,315 --> 00:57:36,705

but gosh, it's so deep.

:

00:57:36,705 --> 00:57:39,215

And there was something I

noticed about the music here at

:

00:57:39,215 --> 00:57:42,465

the end that was so well done.

:

00:57:42,585 --> 00:57:45,375

It seems a little bit

more like minimalist.

:

00:57:45,880 --> 00:57:48,500

than you would get from,

for example, Star Trek.

:

00:57:50,030 --> 00:57:55,240

But it just really pulled at me

and my emotions and my heart.

:

00:57:55,879 --> 00:57:58,596

Xhafer: Yeah, it's uh, it's heavy.

:

00:57:59,166 --> 00:57:59,946

It's a lot.

:

00:58:00,356 --> 00:58:01,606

It's supposed to be heavy.

:

00:58:01,666 --> 00:58:02,936

It's supposed to be a lot.

:

00:58:03,722 --> 00:58:04,142

but.

:

00:58:05,102 --> 00:58:08,352

This is like, this is the thing

that, like, when I think about this

:

00:58:08,352 --> 00:58:11,442

show, I think about this speech.

:

00:58:12,194 --> 00:58:12,554

Laura: Mm hmm.

:

00:58:12,925 --> 00:58:17,525

Xhafer: You know, this, this is,

this is the call to hope despite

:

00:58:18,005 --> 00:58:20,365

not having any reason to have hope.

:

00:58:21,509 --> 00:58:21,909

Laura: Yeah.

:

00:58:22,281 --> 00:58:23,151

Xhafer: that resonates right

:

00:58:23,151 --> 00:58:23,421

now.

:

00:58:24,266 --> 00:58:26,446

Yeah,

:

00:58:26,899 --> 00:58:27,299

Laura: with this

:

00:58:27,626 --> 00:58:28,306

Xhafer: Yeah, right?

:

00:58:28,326 --> 00:58:30,656

Like, this sounds pretty great right now.

:

00:58:30,706 --> 00:58:32,596

So, that's cool.

:

00:58:34,869 --> 00:58:38,859

Laura: So he, he's calling

13th colony, Earth.

:

00:58:39,146 --> 00:58:40,026

Xhafer: Yeah, the lost

:

00:58:40,036 --> 00:58:41,256

13th colony.

:

00:58:41,644 --> 00:58:49,354

Laura: We have this beautiful moment,

an Edward James Olmos speech, and almost

:

00:58:49,354 --> 00:58:54,154

immediately, Laura Roslin comes in

and kicks us in the nuts and reminds

:

00:58:54,154 --> 00:59:02,396

us that, or informs us that Adama's

a liar, there is no earth, and he's

:

00:59:02,566 --> 00:59:05,666

just flying by the seat of his pants

:

00:59:05,748 --> 00:59:06,168

Xhafer: Yep.

:

00:59:07,398 --> 00:59:08,238

He doesn't give a fuck.

:

00:59:08,268 --> 00:59:09,668

Let him be mad tomorrow.

:

00:59:10,768 --> 00:59:15,538

But they need to, they need to

have a reason to not give up today.

:

00:59:15,538 --> 00:59:17,583

Yeah.

:

00:59:17,731 --> 00:59:20,711

Laura: this is what I have to

sell, I'm going to sell it.

:

00:59:23,103 --> 00:59:25,213

Xhafer: Let them, let

them hate me for eternity.

:

00:59:25,353 --> 00:59:25,983

That's fine.

:

00:59:26,003 --> 00:59:31,473

If, if, if Adama does this with the

full knowledge that it is entirely

:

00:59:31,473 --> 00:59:35,823

possible that in a thousand years

people will be cursing his name as

:

00:59:35,823 --> 00:59:39,733

the greatest liar in human history,

and he will sleep easy because there

:

00:59:39,733 --> 00:59:41,553

are humans alive in a thousand years.

:

00:59:42,421 --> 00:59:42,761

Laura: Right.

:

00:59:43,131 --> 00:59:43,471

Yeah.

:

00:59:43,693 --> 00:59:45,563

Xhafer: He does not give a solitary fuck.

:

00:59:46,531 --> 00:59:51,391

Laura: there are people alive to

hate me, so mission accomplished.

:

00:59:51,563 --> 00:59:52,643

Xhafer: Yep, it was worth it.

:

00:59:52,923 --> 00:59:54,313

Whatever the cost, it was worth

:

00:59:55,061 --> 00:59:55,471

Laura: Yeah.

:

00:59:55,551 --> 00:59:55,941

Yeah.

:

00:59:56,581 --> 01:00:02,712

But we couldn't possibly end this

miniseries without, like, a little more

:

01:00:03,503 --> 01:00:03,823

Xhafer: Yeah.

:

01:00:03,842 --> 01:00:04,822

Laura: mystery button.

:

01:00:04,832 --> 01:00:04,862

Mm hmm.

:

01:00:06,142 --> 01:00:13,482

And Adama returns to his quarters to

find a Lovely little slip of like, dot

:

01:00:13,492 --> 01:00:16,142

matrix printer paper, just a little

:

01:00:16,142 --> 01:00:24,052

tiny slip though with the special corners

that says, there are only 12 Cylon models.

:

01:00:24,653 --> 01:00:25,083

Xhafer: Yep.

:

01:00:28,357 --> 01:00:30,367

Laura: Who would, who

would leave this note?

:

01:00:30,707 --> 01:00:31,597

Who would know

:

01:00:32,039 --> 01:00:35,269

Xhafer: Man, does the ship not have CCTV?

:

01:00:36,849 --> 01:00:37,619

Like,

:

01:00:38,379 --> 01:00:40,479

did you not have to key card in?

:

01:00:40,789 --> 01:00:41,139

Like,

:

01:00:44,057 --> 01:00:44,927

Laura: Great point.

:

01:00:45,007 --> 01:00:45,807

Great point.

:

01:00:45,939 --> 01:00:48,589

Xhafer: how do you not know who

this is immediately based off

:

01:00:48,589 --> 01:00:50,669

of just solely ship security?

:

01:00:50,669 --> 01:00:55,319

Access to the commander's room

you'd think would be closed enough

:

01:00:55,349 --> 01:00:58,039

where this would be super easy to

:

01:00:58,039 --> 01:00:58,739

find out.

:

01:00:59,052 --> 01:01:02,802

Laura: Well, well maybe they slipped

it under the door and then the maid

:

01:01:02,802 --> 01:01:05,192

came in and she put it on the desk.

:

01:01:05,452 --> 01:01:06,892

Like, yeah.

:

01:01:07,242 --> 01:01:08,462

obviously, right?

:

01:01:08,989 --> 01:01:09,419

Xhafer: Okay.

:

01:01:10,812 --> 01:01:12,362

Laura: Galactica has maids, right?

:

01:01:12,562 --> 01:01:12,962

Yeah?

:

01:01:13,469 --> 01:01:13,959

Xhafer: for sure.

:

01:01:14,042 --> 01:01:14,392

Laura: course.

:

01:01:15,145 --> 01:01:15,845

Xhafer: Um, we get

:

01:01:15,845 --> 01:01:16,865

A couple of things here.

:

01:01:16,865 --> 01:01:22,425

Uh, 6PT tells us that some Cylons

might not even know they are Cylons.

:

01:01:22,975 --> 01:01:23,295

Laura: Yeah.

:

01:01:23,941 --> 01:01:24,261

Xhafer: Hmm.

:

01:01:24,801 --> 01:01:25,661

They're sleepers.

:

01:01:26,171 --> 01:01:28,031

Little Talia Winters in disguise.

:

01:01:28,655 --> 01:01:29,085

Laura: Yeah.

:

01:01:29,365 --> 01:01:30,795

Well, and that makes, mm,

:

01:01:31,085 --> 01:01:34,785

I guess I was gonna say that it makes

me wonder about Doral, like did he just

:

01:01:34,785 --> 01:01:39,235

not bust until he got to be left on?

:

01:01:39,235 --> 01:01:39,304

Mm hmm.

:

01:01:40,025 --> 01:01:42,985

Anchorage, but the, the

:

01:01:43,595 --> 01:01:46,855

moment I had earlier in the episode

where I realized that he was trying to

:

01:01:46,855 --> 01:01:51,635

encourage them to stay makes me think,

no, he wasn't, not, he was not asleep.

:

01:01:51,645 --> 01:01:52,365

He was

:

01:01:52,541 --> 01:01:53,731

Xhafer: is so good.

:

01:01:54,381 --> 01:01:54,791

Like.

:

01:01:56,311 --> 01:01:58,641

God, I want to tell you

about a scene so bad.

:

01:02:00,461 --> 01:02:03,401

Okay, I'm going to be super non

spoiler y with this because you

:

01:02:03,401 --> 01:02:04,891

already know Doral is a Cylon.

:

01:02:05,771 --> 01:02:09,601

There is a scene where they find a Doral,

:

01:02:10,041 --> 01:02:10,551

right?

:

01:02:11,339 --> 01:02:11,669

Laura: Uh Huh.

:

01:02:11,669 --> 01:02:13,189

That's

:

01:02:13,380 --> 01:02:15,430

Xhafer: You can't

possibly know I'm a Cylon.

:

01:02:15,430 --> 01:02:17,080

You know, like, I'm a human.

:

01:02:17,080 --> 01:02:18,070

What are you guys going on?

:

01:02:18,360 --> 01:02:18,970

There's no way.

:

01:02:18,970 --> 01:02:20,310

You know, like, this is all bullshit.

:

01:02:20,320 --> 01:02:21,220

You have to let me go.

:

01:02:21,490 --> 01:02:25,410

And as they're doing it,

they walk in another Doral.

:

01:02:26,050 --> 01:02:28,100

And the other Doral sees the other Doral.

:

01:02:28,320 --> 01:02:30,680

And he's just like, Well, shit.

:

01:02:37,660 --> 01:02:40,710

That's, that's something I,

that's something to look forward

:

01:02:40,710 --> 01:02:42,430

to without any other context

:

01:02:42,430 --> 01:02:43,300

around the scene.

:

01:02:43,769 --> 01:02:44,029

Laura: Yeah.

:

01:02:44,029 --> 01:02:46,229

You can't waste an opportunity like that.

:

01:02:46,229 --> 01:02:47,278

Yeah,

:

01:02:48,195 --> 01:02:48,835

Xhafer: Um,

:

01:02:48,839 --> 01:02:49,179

Laura: Yeah.

:

01:02:49,179 --> 01:02:49,788

So some might

:

01:02:49,788 --> 01:02:50,869

be asleep though.

:

01:02:51,234 --> 01:02:52,184

And

:

01:02:53,074 --> 01:02:58,054

we're gonna see an army of Cylons

here, a little, little tiny army.

:

01:02:58,505 --> 01:03:06,065

Xhafer: Yeah, we see Dorals,

Leobans, Sixes, and a Sharon.

:

01:03:06,065 --> 01:03:09,278

Dun dun dun!

:

01:03:09,405 --> 01:03:10,485

Laura: And that's it.

:

01:03:11,137 --> 01:03:12,087

Xhafer: Yep, that's the end of it.

:

01:03:12,855 --> 01:03:14,475

Laura: Mini series complete.

:

01:03:14,897 --> 01:03:15,227

Xhafer: Yep.

:

01:03:16,984 --> 01:03:19,294

Laura: Oh, so Sharon's

gotta be asleep, right?

:

01:03:19,804 --> 01:03:24,774

Because she picked up all those humans

and she was real busted up about

:

01:03:24,774 --> 01:03:27,534

it when Hilo stayed on the planet.

:

01:03:27,894 --> 01:03:33,494

And Ja'far's giving me

the face, but I can't.

:

01:03:33,989 --> 01:03:39,788

Unless, unless Boomer has some, like,

six complicated feelings going on

:

01:03:40,146 --> 01:03:42,646

Xhafer: I mean, she did save Gaius.

:

01:03:43,531 --> 01:03:44,301

Laura: Oh, Boomer?

:

01:03:44,837 --> 01:03:45,247

Xhafer: Yeah.

:

01:03:45,851 --> 01:03:46,371

Laura: Yeah.

:

01:03:47,492 --> 01:03:52,042

Xhafer: she did land, she did

land exactly by Gaius's house.

:

01:03:53,542 --> 01:03:54,782

When they went to Caprica.

:

01:03:55,112 --> 01:03:56,682

Just happened to be right next to it.

:

01:03:56,912 --> 01:03:58,332

That's a crazy coincidence.

:

01:03:59,994 --> 01:04:00,394

Laura: Hmm.

:

01:04:01,384 --> 01:04:02,634

It still seems like

:

01:04:03,195 --> 01:04:03,715

Xhafer: Hmm.

:

01:04:04,703 --> 01:04:05,303

Laura: I don't know.

:

01:04:05,323 --> 01:04:06,223

I I, I still

:

01:04:06,223 --> 01:04:08,423

can't buy off on her being awake

:

01:04:08,845 --> 01:04:13,185

Xhafer: I only ask the questions that

I feel the show wants you to ask.

:

01:04:13,783 --> 01:04:14,183

Laura: Sure.

:

01:04:15,383 --> 01:04:20,933

And, I mean, just because they're not

awake, I would imagine there is still

:

01:04:20,933 --> 01:04:25,143

some sort of mechanism that the other

Cylons have for making them do what they

:

01:04:25,143 --> 01:04:29,863

want, like little little radio beams or

:

01:04:29,915 --> 01:04:34,685

Xhafer: It sounds, it sounds like you're

asking me if Cylons have Individuation.

:

01:04:38,375 --> 01:04:41,365

Which is a question I'm

not going to answer.

:

01:04:42,147 --> 01:04:47,387

Laura: It reminds me of, um, you know,

the whole telepath thing from Babylon 5,

:

01:04:47,397 --> 01:04:49,087

which we just mentioned about the Talia

:

01:04:49,096 --> 01:04:50,667

Winters situation and stuff.

:

01:04:51,207 --> 01:04:56,067

If you had a person that

Mind manipulated in that way.

:

01:04:56,067 --> 01:05:01,907

I believe that the Babylon five

universe was saying like the controllers

:

01:05:01,907 --> 01:05:05,137

could get them to do stuff without

them knowing they were doing it

:

01:05:05,769 --> 01:05:06,599

Xhafer: Oh yeah, well, they'd

:

01:05:06,889 --> 01:05:11,669

send the, the the 90s scrambled TV.

:

01:05:12,409 --> 01:05:14,719

The cable signal you're not

supposed to be watching.

:

01:05:14,719 --> 01:05:17,319

The HBO without the

:

01:05:17,319 --> 01:05:18,079

cable box.

:

01:05:18,079 --> 01:05:18,479

Yeah.

:

01:05:18,846 --> 01:05:22,417

Laura: Yeah, to get you to go

be in a place or do the thing.

:

01:05:22,607 --> 01:05:27,417

Yeah, so It's not out of

the realm of possibility.

:

01:05:27,417 --> 01:05:31,767

This could exist in Battlestar

Galactica as well for these robots.

:

01:05:32,209 --> 01:05:32,559

Xhafer: Mm hmm.

:

01:05:34,159 --> 01:05:34,589

So.

:

01:05:35,044 --> 01:05:39,034

On a scale of 1 to 12 colonies,

how'd you feel about this episode?

:

01:05:40,012 --> 01:05:43,412

Laura: I'm bought in I'm

sold like I want to know more

:

01:05:44,162 --> 01:05:46,452

The speech was beautiful and fun.

:

01:05:46,632 --> 01:05:55,148

I do like Laura Roslin's like

fanatical realism like she is She

:

01:05:55,158 --> 01:05:59,978

seems to have a decent head on

her shoulders, at least for now.

:

01:05:59,988 --> 01:06:00,718

Maybe that's going

:

01:06:00,718 --> 01:06:01,568

to get wacky.

:

01:06:02,538 --> 01:06:08,918

But, you know, she immediately put the

kibosh on the captain of the prisoner

:

01:06:08,918 --> 01:06:11,848

ship, doing anything bad to the prisoners.

:

01:06:11,848 --> 01:06:20,288

She reoriented Captain Adama

very quickly, Commander Adama.

:

01:06:21,018 --> 01:06:27,118

With the reality of the situation

and the reality of the fraction.

:

01:06:27,769 --> 01:06:33,881

man, I'm wondering where all these

freaking Cylons are and if that's,

:

01:06:34,363 --> 01:06:38,443

I don't know, like, if we're going

to get to Earth now, because we've

:

01:06:38,453 --> 01:06:40,483

brought up the possibility of Earth.

:

01:06:40,543 --> 01:06:44,523

Like, I have so much to look

forward to and so many questions

:

01:06:44,523 --> 01:06:50,073

and I know it's silly to give it

another, like, 12 out of 12, but.

:

01:06:50,633 --> 01:06:54,093

I'm really buying into the premise and

so that's, that's where I'm at with

:

01:06:54,093 --> 01:07:00,493

this is like I am itching to know more,

raring to go, and I'm just loving it.

:

01:07:00,513 --> 01:07:01,833

12 out of 12.

:

01:07:01,944 --> 01:07:02,404

Xhafer: Hell yeah.

:

01:07:03,364 --> 01:07:05,524

I'm glad you enjoyed

the miniseries so much.

:

01:07:05,735 --> 01:07:06,515

It's good.

:

01:07:07,246 --> 01:07:10,046

I like the second half

more than the first half.

:

01:07:10,746 --> 01:07:14,806

But a lot of that is just the

weight of exposition is slightly

:

01:07:14,806 --> 01:07:16,086

lifted off of the shoulders.

:

01:07:16,676 --> 01:07:17,266

And it lets it

:

01:07:17,276 --> 01:07:18,216

do a little bit more.

:

01:07:18,461 --> 01:07:18,601

Laura: The

:

01:07:18,601 --> 01:07:21,471

religion thing got some

space to breathe, too.

:

01:07:22,331 --> 01:07:23,341

Like, I

:

01:07:23,341 --> 01:07:26,581

can see that they're setting this

up to be something important.

:

01:07:26,808 --> 01:07:27,148

Xhafer: Yeah.

:

01:07:27,549 --> 01:07:29,689

So I'm gonna give this one a 9 out of 12.

:

01:07:30,059 --> 01:07:30,329

Laura: Okay.

:

01:07:30,971 --> 01:07:31,372

Xhafer: Okay.

:

01:07:31,450 --> 01:07:32,440

Laura: can't remember what you gave the

:

01:07:32,440 --> 01:07:33,010

last one.

:

01:07:33,300 --> 01:07:33,460

Was

:

01:07:33,502 --> 01:07:33,822

Xhafer: eight?

:

01:07:34,392 --> 01:07:34,682

Yeah.

:

01:07:35,772 --> 01:07:40,772

So, next up, season one,

episode one, thirty three.

:

01:07:41,272 --> 01:07:42,402

Ben from Last Time

:

01:07:42,402 --> 01:07:43,882

On is going to be joining us.

:

01:07:44,242 --> 01:07:48,882

One of many guest stars we

have coming up this season.

:

01:07:49,462 --> 01:07:51,482

All the cool girls will

be joining us for an

:

01:07:51,482 --> 01:07:52,182

episode.

:

01:07:53,340 --> 01:07:56,870

Laura: I'm just now seeing that

everyone apparently has seen

:

01:07:56,871 --> 01:07:59,770

Battlestar Galactica except me.

:

01:07:59,862 --> 01:08:04,592

Xhafer: So, Ben and Glo

watched it after Babylon 5.

:

01:08:05,482 --> 01:08:06,922

Like a couple of years ago.

:

01:08:07,380 --> 01:08:07,990

Laura: Okay.

:

01:08:08,690 --> 01:08:09,850

So they did what we did.

:

01:08:09,940 --> 01:08:10,580

They went straight

:

01:08:10,580 --> 01:08:12,200

from Babylon 5 to this.

:

01:08:12,202 --> 01:08:12,602

Xhafer: Yeah.

:

01:08:12,971 --> 01:08:15,692

Well, I mean, I think, I think we

had already decided at that point.

:

01:08:15,721 --> 01:08:18,582

So we might have nudged

that decision a little.

:

01:08:18,922 --> 01:08:20,232

Um, but.

:

01:08:20,732 --> 01:08:21,952

Beth will be joining.

:

01:08:22,082 --> 01:08:23,192

Glow will be joining.

:

01:08:23,782 --> 01:08:26,942

Ryan from Yum Yum is going to

be joining us for an episode.

:

01:08:28,075 --> 01:08:28,595

Laura: Yeah.

:

01:08:28,742 --> 01:08:30,932

Xhafer: Gray 17 is going to

be joining us for an episode.

:

01:08:30,942 --> 01:08:31,482

Vic.

:

01:08:31,827 --> 01:08:34,557

To Mini Media Television and also

of Last Time On, it's going to

:

01:08:34,567 --> 01:08:35,827

be joining us for an episode.

:

01:08:36,340 --> 01:08:36,970

Laura: We'll try to get

:

01:08:36,990 --> 01:08:38,029

Aaron on as well,

:

01:08:38,040 --> 01:08:40,180

like, that is a little

bit more of a logistical

:

01:08:40,180 --> 01:08:45,899

hassle, believe it or not, listener,

than uh, just getting somebody even in

:

01:08:45,899 --> 01:08:51,690

another time zone across the ocean just

because, like, We have two children,

:

01:08:51,700 --> 01:08:53,899

and someone must be watching them, so

:

01:08:54,361 --> 01:08:54,821

Xhafer: Yeah.

:

01:08:55,211 --> 01:08:58,301

Yeah, we're, I mean, what are we going

to record that on like a Saturday

:

01:08:58,301 --> 01:09:00,481

afternoon when you can hand them off?

:

01:09:00,520 --> 01:09:00,720

You're going to

:

01:09:00,731 --> 01:09:00,981

have to

:

01:09:01,020 --> 01:09:01,670

Laura: Yeah,

:

01:09:02,131 --> 01:09:08,001

Xhafer: Like, and then, like, also, Um,

I mean obviously this is, you know this

:

01:09:08,001 --> 01:09:11,161

because you record with me, and then

you also record Cool Girls Don't Look

:

01:09:11,161 --> 01:09:12,761

at Explosions with my partner Beth.

:

01:09:13,671 --> 01:09:15,681

Our office is shared.

:

01:09:16,551 --> 01:09:19,520

Her desk is on the video

camera right now behind me.

:

01:09:19,810 --> 01:09:23,310

And so when we're in the same room,

like when we did the, the script

:

01:09:23,310 --> 01:09:25,035

readings, it's a whole thing.

:

01:09:25,035 --> 01:09:27,276

Where we have to coordinate muting.

:

01:09:27,276 --> 01:09:29,696

So, we'll figure it out.

:

01:09:29,716 --> 01:09:33,676

It's much easier to record with

people in other locations than

:

01:09:33,676 --> 01:09:35,786

it is in person, logistically.

:

01:09:36,416 --> 01:09:38,046

Which is, God, the internet.

:

01:09:38,336 --> 01:09:39,916

But, a bunch of guest spots.

:

01:09:39,916 --> 01:09:41,556

Would love to have Aaron on as well.

:

01:09:41,836 --> 01:09:47,136

Um, but this first one, Ben, when I

first said we're doing Battlestar to

:

01:09:47,145 --> 01:09:50,076

Ben, he's like, I'm guesting on 33.

:

01:09:52,136 --> 01:09:59,056

Like before I had written a spreadsheet

before we were in season three of

:

01:09:59,066 --> 01:10:01,536

Babylon five, Bennett called dibs on this

:

01:10:01,536 --> 01:10:02,076

episode.

:

01:10:02,530 --> 01:10:05,400

Laura: Well, we can't pry

it away from him, then can

:

01:10:05,576 --> 01:10:08,036

Xhafer: Now you're ready for

this episode description.

:

01:10:08,790 --> 01:10:09,660

Laura: Hit me, yeah.

:

01:10:10,366 --> 01:10:16,276

Xhafer: This is, so I have two because the

one on the streaming service I'm watching

:

01:10:16,276 --> 01:10:20,156

on was like two and a half paragraphs

that tells you everything that happens.

:

01:10:20,559 --> 01:10:20,930

Laura: Damn.

:

01:10:21,836 --> 01:10:24,846

Xhafer: And then I just checked

on Amazon prime and Amazon's is.

:

01:10:25,366 --> 01:10:26,306

Two sentences.

:

01:10:26,756 --> 01:10:27,846

So we're going to roll with that.

:

01:10:28,446 --> 01:10:33,516

The crew is put to the test, has

sleep deprivation, mixes with the

:

01:10:33,516 --> 01:10:36,476

gloomy reality of a Cylon apocalypse.

:

01:10:37,036 --> 01:10:41,226

They have just 33 minutes to

make a jump and elude the Cylons.

:

01:10:42,086 --> 01:10:42,376

Laura: sleep

:

01:10:42,513 --> 01:10:44,253

Xhafer: episode is crazy.

:

01:10:45,306 --> 01:10:47,386

Laura: Okay, I'm excited.

:

01:10:48,243 --> 01:10:48,883

Xhafer: You should be.

:

01:10:49,993 --> 01:10:51,293

I'm so excited for this.

:

01:10:51,303 --> 01:10:53,253

I haven't, I haven't watched

this episode in years.

:

01:10:53,713 --> 01:10:55,313

I'm real excited to go back and watch it.

:

01:10:56,418 --> 01:11:01,268

Just like I'm real excited to say

thank you to Jeremy Siegel for

:

01:11:01,268 --> 01:11:03,028

composing our lovely theme music.

:

01:11:03,028 --> 01:11:03,728

Thank you, Jeremy.

:

01:11:05,018 --> 01:11:06,908

You just do all the themes here,

:

01:11:07,278 --> 01:11:08,478

except for last

:

01:11:08,478 --> 01:11:09,368

time on, but

:

01:11:10,246 --> 01:11:12,436

Laura: All themes everywhere.

:

01:11:12,698 --> 01:11:13,348

Xhafer: everywhere.

:

01:11:14,698 --> 01:11:15,338

Thank you so much.

:

01:11:15,368 --> 01:11:17,563

We really appreciate you putting together.

:

01:11:19,383 --> 01:11:21,653

You can find more of Jeremy's

work at JeremySegal42.

:

01:11:21,693 --> 01:11:22,273

bandcamp.

:

01:11:22,303 --> 01:11:24,093

com and on streaming services

:

01:11:24,183 --> 01:11:25,363

as Nuclear Jaguar.

:

01:11:26,016 --> 01:11:28,686

Laura: and thank you to Angry

Duck Time Machine on Instagram

:

01:11:28,696 --> 01:11:30,196

for the podcast artwork.

:

01:11:30,656 --> 01:11:32,756

Xhafer: Aaron, thank you so

much for editing this podcast.

:

01:11:33,146 --> 01:11:34,886

I know you're going to take

like 10 minutes out of the

:

01:11:34,886 --> 01:11:36,426

sky of me repeating myself.

:

01:11:36,596 --> 01:11:39,996

So, everyone appreciates that.

:

01:11:41,419 --> 01:11:42,239

Laura: Don't we?

:

01:11:42,259 --> 01:11:42,919

Yes.

:

01:11:43,586 --> 01:11:43,996

Xhafer: Heh heh.

:

01:11:44,449 --> 01:11:44,969

Laura: And hey,

:

01:11:44,999 --> 01:11:49,469

listener, if you want to join the

Battlestar spoiler conversation, which I

:

01:11:49,469 --> 01:11:52,579

am not in, you can join us on our Discord.

:

01:11:52,889 --> 01:11:54,899

And Ja'far will let you into that

:

01:11:54,899 --> 01:11:55,179

one.

:

01:11:55,189 --> 01:11:56,449

He just won't let me in.

:

01:11:57,289 --> 01:12:01,959

And I can be found in other parts of

the Discord just having a good time.

:

01:12:02,946 --> 01:12:03,376

Xhafer: Yep.

:

01:12:03,732 --> 01:12:05,382

Alright, we'll see you

next week, Internet.

:

01:12:05,955 --> 01:12:06,934

Laura: bye!
