Transcript
Xhafer:

Welcome to who are you?

Xhafer:

A Babylon five watch cast hosted by two former strangers.

Xhafer:

Now friends who have gotten to know each other and will continue to get

Xhafer:

to know each other while rewatching one of their favorite shows from

Xhafer:

their childhood Babylon five.

Xhafer:

I'm sure fair.

Laura:

And I'm Laura.

Xhafer:

And today, Laura, I get to ask you.

Xhafer:

What do you want?

Laura:

Well, I, unlike captain Sheridan in our episode, that's coming up today.

Laura:

Want some March.

Laura:

I

Xhafer:

You want some merge?

Laura:

want that sweet, sweet Babel on five March.

Laura:

And.

Xhafer:

with the remake.

Laura:

Yeah.

Laura:

You know, I can't wait for the remake.

Laura:

So I'm really hoping when we go to star Trek, Las Vegas, And.

Laura:

the time you are hearing this, we are on our way.

Xhafer:

Yeah.

Laura:

some sweet, sweet Babylon five March.

Xhafer:

I am excited for the trip.

Xhafer:

For a number of reasons, besides it being my first vacation,

Xhafer:

since I went to Hawaii last year.

Xhafer:

And my first time off the didn't involve me being sick or moving.

Xhafer:

Um, In almost a year.

Xhafer:

Very excited for it.

Xhafer:

Uh, for that, I'm very excited to my first star Trek con.

Laura:

Really.

Xhafer:

I've done a number of other conventions I've done.

Xhafer:

I've done like four or five dragon cons.

Xhafer:

I've done a lot of locals and may conventions, ACE ends, um, all

Xhafer:

kinds of stuff, but I haven't done a strictly star Trek convention before.

Laura:

It has been a long time for me because I went to the

Laura:

track expos in Tulsa, which.

Laura:

If you were around Tulsa back then you kind of know when that era was.

Laura:

And I was small.

Laura:

When I went to those.

Laura:

This'll be my first star Trek convention.

Laura:

Has a grown ass adult, I guess.

Xhafer:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

It's going to be my first convention in a long time with disposable income.

Xhafer:

So Lord knows what that means.

Laura:

Disposable income and I'm flying on Southwest.

Laura:

So I get to check a suitcase for free.

Laura:

Uh, So I'm ready.

Xhafer:

Beth and I have been planning things.

Xhafer:

There is a distillery called smoke wagon in Las Vegas.

Xhafer:

that makes a very nice, highly rated bourbon that you can't buy in Michigan.

Laura:

Oh, that's

Xhafer:

I'll be bringing my hard case luggage.

Xhafer:

And a bit of bourbon back with me at the very least.

Xhafer:

but who knows?

Xhafer:

What else?

Xhafer:

and try to even think that there would be that, of course, there's

Xhafer:

going to be Babylon five merge.

Laura:

surely, right.

Laura:

It can't be that strict of like star Trek only.

Laura:

Merge surely.

Xhafer:

I would hope not.

Laura:

Uh, the other conventions I've been to, you know, that weren't even strictly

Laura:

conventions of had Babylon five stuff.

Laura:

one thing that I would really like to get my hands on, I think.

Laura:

Is kind of the Barbie style dolls.

Laura:

Like we see in this episode with a Mondo.

Xhafer:

Did they make, oh, you know, I think I've seen one actually.

Xhafer:

I think I've seen her around.

Xhafer:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

They made these didn't.

Xhafer:

They.

Laura:

Yeah.

Laura:

I mean, I would kill for the bear too, but.

Laura:

Just because, it's fun.

Xhafer:

There were instructions on use net because that's just a build a bear bear.

Laura:

I mean, that makes sense.

Laura:

Yeah.

Laura:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

there's actually a story behind the bear.

Laura:

Oh, I can't

Xhafer:

Um, Well, when we get to the end of the episode, I'll

Xhafer:

tell the story about the bear.

Xhafer:

But this is, um, it's notable here because this is a non JMS episode.

Xhafer:

is the last non JMS episode until season five.

Laura:

Dang.

Laura:

That is a lot of work.

Xhafer:

So every episode from here until day of the dead and season five, which was

Xhafer:

written by Neil Gaiman is written by JMS.

Xhafer:

This was written by Peter David.

Laura:

Oh, do you like him?

Laura:

like

Xhafer:

And there's a story about him and this episode.

Xhafer:

That I'll tell at the end of the episode.

Xhafer:

Because it's pertinent to the last scene.

Laura:

You giving them the teasers, you getting them to stay

Xhafer:

Right.

Xhafer:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

We've got those new, new analytics after we changed.

Xhafer:

Pothos so, uh, I now get information, like how long someone

Xhafer:

actually listens to the podcast.

Laura:

wow.

Laura:

I'm not sure.

Laura:

I want to know.

Xhafer:

Almost everyone is through.

Xhafer:

It's not a thing.

Xhafer:

Um, we don't have a sudden drop off.

Xhafer:

Um, So that's cool.

Laura:

mission.

Laura:

if I get anything cool while we're there or you get anything cool.

Laura:

We should post it up on the discord.

Laura:

It'd be like, look at our cool new swag.

Xhafer:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

When this episode airs, that's the day we both fly out to Vegas.

Xhafer:

And we're going to meet in person for the first time.

Laura:

excited.

Xhafer:

which will be fun.

Xhafer:

We'll record that.

Xhafer:

And, uh, yeah, if we find anything fun.

Xhafer:

Um, I know I'm bringing, I got a couple of uniforms, star Trek uniforms.

Xhafer:

I'm bringing.

Laura:

Oh, cool.

Xhafer:

I've been 3d print and stuff the whole week here.

Xhafer:

Little communicators and badges and pips and stuff.

Laura:

Yeah.

Laura:

I going to bring my badge, uh, my one uniform that I have probably doesn't

Laura:

fit right now, so I will be wearing that, but I'm going to have a badge on.

Xhafer:

There's still probably be some stuff.

Xhafer:

Because if I found like, So I sent you those Babylon five mugs that I found.

Xhafer:

I'm glad you like them.

Xhafer:

I have a Babylon five Stein.

Xhafer:

And then I picked up a couple action figures all at the

Xhafer:

last motor city comic con.

Laura:

Oh, yeah.

Laura:

Okay.

Xhafer:

Cause I've actually, they're all set up in my office now.

Xhafer:

So.

Xhafer:

Londo Avir.

Xhafer:

A Dylann and a Sheridan.

Xhafer:

And I do have the Sinclair aircraft up on my wall as well.

Xhafer:

Which was a Christmas present from number one, fan Ben.

Xhafer:

Thank you.

Xhafer:

But yeah, let's get into this episode.

Laura:

Yeah, let's do it.

Laura:

This is a fun one.

Xhafer:

Season two episode 15.

Xhafer:

They're all honor lies.

Xhafer:

We open on Ivanova and Sheridan.

Xhafer:

Discussing how the Senate is as we were discussing opening a gift

Xhafer:

shop to help pay for the station.

Xhafer:

Ivanova has a clutch line here.

Xhafer:

Babylon five, our last best hope for a quick buck.

Laura:

Love it.

Xhafer:

It's immediately followed by a, we're not some deep space franchise.

Xhafer:

The station is about something.

Xhafer:

Shots fired.

Laura:

I think so.

Laura:

Yeah.

Laura:

criticized, shared it in the past for some of his, assigning the shitty assignments

Laura:

to Ivana, but, but I like for this one.

Laura:

It's, you know, he's assigning the critical thinker.

Laura:

this project to make sure that it's handled sensitively.

Laura:

So I was like, you know what?

Laura:

I'm okay with this one, I'll allow it.

Xhafer:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

got plans anyways.

Xhafer:

He wants to go hang out with ambassador Kush and watch half baked.

Xhafer:

So.

Laura:

Yeah, he just those cryptic cash conversation.

Laura:

So he's going back for more.

Xhafer:

Yup.

Xhafer:

on his way down to his dealer, his cell gets swiped.

Xhafer:

Uh, he chases after the punk who stole it.

Xhafer:

Uh, runs into the wrong men Bari who asked him to shoot him.

Xhafer:

And so he does.

Xhafer:

but some narc, just barely sees the shooting to theme.

Laura:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

come back and, Garibaldi is cops splaining to Dylan

Xhafer:

that he looked real suspicious.

Xhafer:

And sometimes you just shoot someone who's unarmed.

Laura:

Yeah.

Laura:

Um,

Xhafer:

Oh, fucking yikes.

Laura:

yikes.

Laura:

Yes.

Laura:

Yes, because Sheridan's like trying to explain himself.

Laura:

Garibaldi is being a little too sympathetic to share it in.

Laura:

And Dylan has some, you know, very real righteous anger, because we

Laura:

don't know much at this point.

Laura:

You know, Dylan of course.

Laura:

Has every right to conduct her own investigation.

Laura:

I think.

Xhafer:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

Even the last time she totally was within those rights.

Xhafer:

She chose not to.

Laura:

Well, she's learned right.

Laura:

live,

Xhafer:

Fool me once Mr.

Xhafer:

Karen Baldy.

Laura:

So yeah, she's going to conduct her own investigation.

Laura:

And then we cut to vere.

Laura:

And he's in Bondos quarters and he gets a very ominous TV call.

Xhafer:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

Oh, no B plot progression to be had in this phone call.

Xhafer:

Just something with vere.

Xhafer:

That's all we get.

Laura:

Yeah, but we know we're going to get beer, so it's going to be,

Laura:

know, There's some fun to that pot.

Xhafer:

Gary, baldies talking to him and Bari who refuses to assist linear

Xhafer:

drops in to speak to them as well.

Xhafer:

In fact Garibaldi notes that when near is seemingly step ahead of him.

Xhafer:

Maybe maybe they should put linear in charge of station security.

Laura:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

He'd be very thorough.

Xhafer:

I think he actually probably do a better job to be perfectly honest.

Laura:

not only would he be very thorough, but I would hazard that

Laura:

he would also be more respectful.

Laura:

I'm willing to put money on that.

Laura:

But, you know, Sheridan kind of wonders here.

Laura:

If this could be.

Laura:

Linear and Dillon trying to orchestrate a coverup.

Laura:

Garibaldi is very charitable toward linear.

Laura:

And doesn't believe he would do something like that.

Xhafer:

But at the same time, He is buying into Garibaldis theory, positing that

Xhafer:

the person who stole the link him running into the Memorial warrior are linked.

Xhafer:

No pun intended.

Xhafer:

Uh, Sheridan does love a conspiracy.

Laura:

Well, I mean this whole thing, I was like, I don't know.

Laura:

there was any question in anyone's mind at this point in

Laura:

the episode that these things.

Laura:

I could be not linked.

Laura:

Like they're obviously linked.

Laura:

It was obviously a setup You know, they, they arrive in med lab.

Laura:

They talk about this autopsy that's happening.

Laura:

Franklin tells them that there's nothing to prove it either way.

Laura:

You know, it.

Laura:

I can't prove that he attacked you, but I also can't approve that.

Laura:

You just shot him for no reason.

Xhafer:

Yeah.

Laura:

And then Kara Baldy.

Laura:

At this point finally asks how'd you get the PPG.

Laura:

for some reason they haven't talked about that.

Laura:

It

Xhafer:

Hm.

Laura:

Hanging out, conveniently on the floor.

Xhafer:

Oh, there was just a hand gun right next to me.

Laura:

Oh, and I just saw it and I thought, oh yeah, sure.

Xhafer:

I mean, they might have assumed up until this point that it was his PPG.

Xhafer:

He might've even assumed that.

Xhafer:

doesn't typically carry while on duty, but.

Laura:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

It wouldn't be completely uncharacteristic for him too.

Laura:

Yeah.

Laura:

I mean, he is a military man.

Xhafer:

Yeah.

Laura:

rights within the rights of military men, I suppose.

Laura:

but why no one talked about where it came from until we're here at the autopsy.

Laura:

It displays my mind.

Xhafer:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

we cut to the Zocalo where the gift shop has opened.

Xhafer:

And drunk veer runs into Talia who makes a joke that doesn't

Xhafer:

make sense yet, and then runs off.

Laura:

I love that we get her for just a second.

Laura:

In this episode.

Xhafer:

Remember that Talia exists, please, please.

Xhafer:

Don't forget.

Xhafer:

Talia.

Xhafer:

She's going to be very important

Laura:

It's going to matter.

Laura:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

Yeah.

Laura:

makes the station feel like more like a place if we don't just have.

Laura:

Are people that are in the episode.

Laura:

In the episode, like she's, she's around, we know her, she bumps

Laura:

into veer for this, you know, bit.

Laura:

And then.

Xhafer:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

That's it for the episode, I'd argue.

Xhafer:

That's the kind of stuff that makes Babylon five Babylon five.

Laura:

For sure.

Xhafer:

Delaney.

Xhafer:

The linear believed they had found the witness he is religious cast.

Xhafer:

And the same clan is linear.

Xhafer:

He then says some racist, xenophobic shit.

Laura:

Yeah, he's got a

Xhafer:

For Deland.

Laura:

bad

Xhafer:

REFCO these two episodes for Dylan.

Laura:

Yeah, she's really getting it from.

Laura:

Her people and other people and.

Laura:

she, you know, she's not minbar anymore, but she's not human either.

Laura:

The witness refuses to answer questions to anyone but linear.

Laura:

But even then it doesn't seem.

Laura:

Genuine does it.

Laura:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

Ashton is all you want the truth?

Xhafer:

You can't handle the truth to commercial.

Xhafer:

And we get a stinger to commercial.

Laura:

I saw that we've got the commercial break thing lift in.

Xhafer:

I remember these from earring on TV, but I don't think

Xhafer:

I've seen one on HBO max before.

Laura:

Yeah, this is the first one I've noticed.

Laura:

Aaron said this happens sometimes that they just, they were cutting these

Laura:

things, they didn't cut it right.

Laura:

Or.

Laura:

You know, I don't mind it.

Xhafer:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

No, no.

Xhafer:

It was a fun, little bit of nostalgia for me because I remember watching this show.

Xhafer:

And although these things before the commercial breaks, And if we

Xhafer:

have any listeners young enough to not remember TV before streaming.

Xhafer:

don't tell me I'm happy.

Xhafer:

You're not knowing I don't want you to email me about it.

Xhafer:

I don't want to know.

Laura:

Just definitely for us.

Laura:

It's we're getting a nice little nostalgia hit.

Laura:

Just give it to us.

Laura:

Let

Xhafer:

Nope.

Xhafer:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

After this, we go to Sheridan's office.

Xhafer:

And we get the a Def first was actually.

Xhafer:

D.

Xhafer:

First.

Xhafer:

Which is a surrender.

Xhafer:

Um, Sharon's just like, you're a liar, man.

Xhafer:

Bari.

Xhafer:

call you a liar.

Xhafer:

And everyone's just like, whoa, you got to fight them to the deaths now.

Xhafer:

Um, so we just won't, we won't say that you said that.

Laura:

Yeah, we've got this big deal on You do not lie.

Laura:

But I don't know.

Laura:

I feel like anybody who tells you, they don't lie.

Laura:

Is already doing that.

Laura:

So.

Xhafer:

Mm, well, we talk about last episode, anyone who insists, they're

Xhafer:

the only one telling you the truth.

Xhafer:

Same logic applies.

Laura:

Sheridan tries to back up and.

Laura:

Make this more palatable by saying that he is in error.

Laura:

And he wants to speak to this guy in person, Garibaldi actually is very right.

Laura:

That this is a bad idea.

Xhafer:

Yeah.

Laura:

Yeah, apparently.

Laura:

Garibaldi.

Laura:

could be right.

Laura:

Sometimes a stopped clock is right.

Laura:

Twice a day.

Laura:

Right.

Xhafer:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

Avant, if it goes down to the gift shop and we see some action figures.

Xhafer:

we have one of the low Balian's in the background wearing two hats.

Xhafer:

on each lobe.

Laura:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

was something that's spotted in the background.

Xhafer:

That was a lot of fun.

Xhafer:

Um, where you get a very convincing mask being taken off by a human.

Laura:

Uh, huh.

Xhafer:

and then a very convincing human mask.

Xhafer:

Take it off by a dressy.

Laura:

This is great.

Xhafer:

This is so good.

Laura:

I assume there's some editing involved to make

Laura:

these look as cool as they do.

Laura:

Or as

Xhafer:

Oh, yeah, because there was no makeup like that was

Xhafer:

full stage makeup, not a mask.

Xhafer:

the human took that mask off and same goes, that was like

Xhafer:

the dude without any low phone.

Xhafer:

And then they put the drowsy makeup on him and that was all a cut.

Xhafer:

It was so good.

Laura:

It's perfect.

Laura:

Like it,

Xhafer:

there's a fun little thing here too.

Xhafer:

Um, there is a big model of Babylon five.

Xhafer:

the middle of the store.

Xhafer:

After this episode, it's painted bronze.

Xhafer:

put in Sheridan's office where it belongs.

Xhafer:

Uh, like just every captain ever has a bronze cut version

Xhafer:

of their ship in their office.

Xhafer:

This is how he gets his, it's a prop that they made for this episode.

Xhafer:

after this, that's where it lives.

Xhafer:

JMS at the time of this episode, airing said that when Babylon

Xhafer:

five was done, he was taking it and it was sitting in his office.

Xhafer:

Like he had already called dips for three years in the future.

Laura:

That's great.

Laura:

Ah, I

Xhafer:

And then we get a familiar face at space TSA.

Laura:

A familiar face.

Xhafer:

Yeah, this is Katelyn Julie Brown.

Xhafer:

the actress who played in the Toth and season one.

Laura:

I'm embarrassed that I didn't catch this.

Xhafer:

Well, she wears a lot of mates.

Xhafer:

It's a lot of prosthetics and stuff.

Laura:

I feel like voice, I should have caught it.

Laura:

Right.

Laura:

But,

Xhafer:

Yeah.

Laura:

I wanted to tell you too, that for these two episodes, I was very, just

Laura:

like a burst in the story and the, the.

Laura:

The fun of it, though.

Laura:

of it are fun.

Laura:

Exactly.

Laura:

But you know what I mean, very immersed in the story.

Laura:

I didn't actually Google the guest stars all on either one or the next one.

Laura:

So if you've got stuff, share it.

Xhafer:

The next one is nothing special.

Xhafer:

I thought it was Michael Ironside for a minute, but it wasn't.

Laura:

No.

Laura:

But we get Katelyn, Julie Brown back.

Xhafer:

Yeah, we get Caitlin Julie Brown.

Xhafer:

like I said, she's Natasha and season one and she does.

Xhafer:

Cameo is Natasha and season five.

Xhafer:

and she's shared, and this lawyer who ends the conversation in the room, Just

Xhafer:

immediately, she just shuts it down.

Laura:

She is so powerful.

Laura:

She is screaming power lawyer.

Laura:

I love it.

Xhafer:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

Dylan and linear cast out on Ashton's claim.

Xhafer:

cut back to Sheridan's office and I think the HD remaster like missed the scene.

Xhafer:

Uh, it just went to complete potato quality for me and everything was off.

Xhafer:

It looks gross.

Xhafer:

It was really bad.

Xhafer:

The render, anyways, Nath lock tells the captain earth gov is

Xhafer:

going to charge him for murder.

Xhafer:

doesn't think the charges will stick, but it is likely to cost

Xhafer:

him his command to commercial.

Laura:

Um, so do we think that part of this earth dome strategy comes from how

Laura:

they feel about, and now for our word.

Xhafer:

Quite possibly.

Laura:

Yeah.

Laura:

Uh, like, uh, he stepped on some toes with some things.

Laura:

He said they're in his interview.

Laura:

And they're like, nah, it's fine.

Laura:

don't want him there anyway, like this is a good time.

Laura:

This is a good time to get rid of him.

Laura:

Right.

Laura:

Like, I don't think the conspiracy goes far enough that somehow earth was trying

Laura:

to frame him because obviously we, we find out other stuff about that, but I

Laura:

think earth is like, yes, now's the time.

Xhafer:

Ivanova tries to share him up or reminding him.

Xhafer:

that, if he cares about not being a murderer, then he's probably

Xhafer:

still not a complete shit bag.

Laura:

I thought it was great

Xhafer:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

I mean, the fact that you care about whether or not you're

Xhafer:

a murderer is important.

Xhafer:

Which?

Xhafer:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

I mean, I, it is, I mean, by how our legal system works, know, it's accidental

Xhafer:

manslaughter and murder with intent.

Xhafer:

You know, there's separate things.

Xhafer:

So.

Laura:

That's true.

Laura:

So Kosh picks now to show up and insist on going for a walk.

Laura:

You know, Sheridan rightly tries to say he's got a lot on his mind right now, but.

Laura:

that's precisely the time for a CAUTI lesson.

Xhafer:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

I have been this guy before I have showed up at a friend's door.

Xhafer:

When I knew they had an absolute shitty day and they didn't want

Xhafer:

to leave the house and then dragged them out of the house.

Laura:

Did you drag them out of the house for some light?

Laura:

Chanting.

Xhafer:

No.

Xhafer:

Well, And it depends on the friend.

Xhafer:

what counts is slight chanting, I suppose.

Xhafer:

Um, possibly.

Laura:

Cool.

Laura:

Cool.

Xhafer:

Garibaldi.

Xhafer:

to follow a Shaun to see if he finds out anything.

Xhafer:

And then Yoda takes Luke down to the cave to confront.

Xhafer:

I mean, cos takes Sheridan down below.

Xhafer:

To show him one moment of perfect beauty.

Laura:

I

Xhafer:

This is definitely Amash, right?

Xhafer:

Like he's like what's in there, you know?

Xhafer:

And cause you may as well say only what you take with you.

Xhafer:

Like.

Xhafer:

It's fun and I appreciate it.

Laura:

The aesthetics are also similar with everything

Laura:

being all kind of brown and.

Laura:

De GOBA ish.

Xhafer:

Yeah.

Laura:

always loved this scene.

Laura:

Thought it was really cool.

Laura:

that I'm older and I've been, you know, more educated on

Laura:

music and sound and stuff.

Laura:

The second they started singing.

Laura:

I was like, oh, that, sound could not be made in that tiny space.

Laura:

Like, it's

Xhafer:

Well, they're aliens, maybe.

Laura:

Who

Xhafer:

Um, it is a Christmas hymn.

Laura:

Is it okay.

Laura:

I was like, I should have sent this to my old, uh, music history teacher and

Laura:

see if she knew exactly what the was.

Xhafer:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

no, it's, it's just a bit about Jesus.

Xhafer:

you know, being born and then coming again and all that stuff.

Xhafer:

not really my area of expertise to talk about, but, uh, JMS talked about it a bit.

Xhafer:

in the use net notes.

Xhafer:

So to my understanding, it's a Christmas hymn.

Xhafer:

It's at the very least a Christian religious him directly referencing Jesus

Laura:

That's hilarious because if it is Christmas, because you know, I I've.

Laura:

Done a lot of choral singing in my days.

Laura:

and I wanted to just give everybody a couple of pieces that I've sung in

Laura:

that made me kind of feel like this.

Laura:

Like, like to be feeling in the scene.

Laura:

Um, and one is

Laura:

from Rachmaninoff's vespers.

Laura:

Number six.

Laura:

which is a Christmas Eve service.

Laura:

It's a Christmas Eve and then Morton Lorensen's oh, natto.

Laura:

Not to Luke's.

Laura:

you should definitely.

Laura:

Get an a.

Laura:

You know, Nice dark room.

Laura:

Find a YouTube recording or a Spotify recording of these pieces and just give

Laura:

yourself some real peace for a minute.

Laura:

Cause it's, it's amazing.

Laura:

And if you've ever sung in them, you know exactly what I'm talking about.

Laura:

But that's.

Laura:

Just a little.

Laura:

Fun fun moment

Xhafer:

You should post link to those in the discord.

Xhafer:

you get on the plane.

Laura:

I wouldn't be surprised if it's hard to spell Bogart or D T.

Laura:

Because it is Russian.

Xhafer:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

I.

Xhafer:

B.

Xhafer:

And I've done.

Xhafer:

So.

Laura:

Yup.

Laura:

I'll give you a couple of links.

Xhafer:

All right.

Xhafer:

Cool.

Xhafer:

Uh, we cut to veer who is two drinks, deep drowning, his problems and booze.

Xhafer:

Lando begins to chastise him when he realizes wait two Trinks.

Laura:

It's so funny.

Laura:

He's trying so hard to be paternal after that.

Laura:

He's like, this, this poor boy.

Xhafer:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

Uh, veer goes off on how Londo is and has been.

Xhafer:

And now that his job, isn't a joke he's been recalled to be replaced.

Xhafer:

Londa, since he's going to handle it, distracted by some Suntory

Xhafer:

women looking at his doll.

Laura:

Uh, this is the Barbie I want y'all I want this one.

Xhafer:

Dylan discovers something about the murdered men Bari.

Xhafer:

As Londo tracks down Sheridan and Ivanova to complain about his actionless figure.

Laura:

Aye.

Laura:

I think it's very funny that.

Laura:

It's all about the penis again.

Xhafer:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

It's an important part of their culture.

Xhafer:

The penis

Laura:

keeps coming up.

Laura:

He's he's He's not mad about.

Laura:

You know, Being merchandised or.

Xhafer:

No, no.

Xhafer:

Make your money.

Xhafer:

I get it.

Laura:

Yeah, no, he's mad that the N the anatomy is not correct.

Xhafer:

Yeah, this doesn't have any to stipulates.

Xhafer:

And that's a problem for Alondo.

Xhafer:

It implies he himself is without them.

Xhafer:

Which is very embarrassing.

Laura:

Yeah, we can't have that.

Xhafer:

but after all this.

Xhafer:

Uh, his entrance into the plot.

Xhafer:

Does Harold in important callback?

Xhafer:

About Mim Bari being able to lie sometimes.

Laura:

Yes.

Laura:

And guess what his penis was in that episode, too.

Laura:

But yeah.

Laura:

Why, why did, why does he know this?

Laura:

Well, uh, linear had to cover for him once, right?

Xhafer:

Yeah, but linear lied to maintain the honor of his clan.

Xhafer:

Which is the one time you can lie.

Xhafer:

As an embargo.

Xhafer:

we cut to the Zen garden Sheridan and Dylan talk.

Xhafer:

Sheridan notes of Sean is being taken away to the med Bari home world.

Xhafer:

Thus a trial, but also completely destroying Sheridan's credibility.

Laura:

Yeah, gonna have to leave the station

Xhafer:

Yeah.

Laura:

forever be wondering.

Laura:

he really kill that guy?

Laura:

And that will be disruptive.

Xhafer:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

He compares how helpless he feels now to when his fighter was once a drift.

Xhafer:

Just hanging out in space, unable to do anything.

Laura:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

Dylan feels alone too.

Xhafer:

But Sheridan kind of dresses her down a bit.

Xhafer:

About this.

Xhafer:

You know about the big truths and the small truths and how the small truths

Xhafer:

need to be there, to support the big ones.

Laura:

Yeah, you can't have large ideals without smaller ideals.

Laura:

I actually was just a.

Laura:

Reading, one of the Terry Pratchett Discworld books.

Laura:

And he says something similar, like.

Laura:

If you'll do it for a good reason.

Laura:

You'll do it for a bad reason.

Xhafer:

Yeah.

Laura:

So.

Laura:

very, very salient point here.

Laura:

Sheridan.

Laura:

Linear confronts a Sean and tells him that his ship is supposed to leave

Laura:

within the hour because linear is going to announce that he was complicit.

Laura:

In the death of Lavelle.

Laura:

He's going to bear the responsibility of the acts of his clan.

Xhafer:

Yeah, he honors shames a Shaun into acting.

Xhafer:

he goes through the whole scheme surprise Garibaldis Sheridan, Dillon, and Allie.

Xhafer:

I'll come out of linear's bedroom.

Laura:

It's like they just spill out of a closet or something.

Laura:

It's a very

Xhafer:

It's a literal clown car in there.

Laura:

Because, you know, these quarters aren't that big.

Xhafer:

No.

Laura:

were in linear.

Laura:

Squirters right.

Xhafer:

Yeah.

Laura:

suite.

Xhafer:

in his bedroom is probably like a mat on the floor.

Laura:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

Well, actually we know what Mubarak beds look like.

Xhafer:

They're mostly vertical, so it's probably a very small room.

Laura:

So, yeah, we, they got ya.

Laura:

They got him.

Laura:

So Sheridan's lawyer asked Dylan memoir government is going to contest this

Laura:

evidence or, you know, like object to some sort of public confession or something.

Laura:

But Sheridan.

Laura:

Pulls the Sheridan is like, oh, but do we really need that?

Laura:

And he's got big brain plans.

Laura:

doesn't want to harm linear.

Xhafer:

Yeah.

Laura:

seems to care about Dylan and her people.

Laura:

so Sheridan says that he'll cut a deal that if Sean will just issue a

Laura:

statement about what he really saw.

Laura:

You know, not implicating either of them.

Laura:

a crime.

Laura:

Sheridan's going to turn over the evidence and allow things to continue a status quo.

Xhafer:

after this.

Xhafer:

Uh, veer is hung over.

Xhafer:

Uh, so hung over.

Xhafer:

Can't count past 14.

Xhafer:

Like he pauses and counts in his head and it's just like, when he

Xhafer:

stops, that's the number he says.

Xhafer:

It's so good.

Laura:

I just love.

Laura:

Steven first and

Xhafer:

Yeah.

Laura:

of year.

Xhafer:

Lando is a complete asshole here.

Xhafer:

It's just like, we'll pack up.

Laura:

He's jerking him around for fun.

Xhafer:

Yeah.

Laura:

he says that.

Laura:

You know, pack up your shit . And pack up my shit.

Laura:

Cause if you're leaving, I'm leaving.

Laura:

in reality.

Laura:

If you're just not going to have to go home because he just bunch

Laura:

of glowing reports to everyone.

Laura:

Says that he won't allow to leave.

Laura:

He would leave to.

Laura:

And, you know, I get there, there's an uncle that veer

Laura:

especially wanted to make proud.

Laura:

And

Xhafer:

Yeah.

Laura:

him a nice.

Laura:

Report and phone call veer are so appreciative right up until the moment

Laura:

that Londo tells him he's invited his entire family to the station.

Laura:

For a month.

Xhafer:

For a month.

Laura:

That's that's the Londo.

Laura:

We know.

Xhafer:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

I'm sure this is also a gag.

Xhafer:

but.

Xhafer:

Whereas, I don't remember if your family actually shows up at any point.

Laura:

I mean, it would be fantastic, wouldn't it?

Laura:

But I think I would remember if that

Xhafer:

Yeah.

Laura:

I know we're going to get some other veer, personal life stuff, but I

Laura:

don't think we're getting this moment.

Xhafer:

Sheridan catches up with Ivanova.

Xhafer:

And we see bearable on five, a Teddy bear.

Xhafer:

Now, this is the story.

Xhafer:

This, this episode, like I said earlier, was written by Peter David.

Laura:

Yes.

Xhafer:

Peter David knows that JMS apparently hates stuffed animals.

Xhafer:

Or something like a deranged sociopath like that.

Xhafer:

Um, And so Peter bought this for JMS as a gag before the episode was written.

Laura:

Nice.

Xhafer:

It's just stay like ha ha.

Xhafer:

I did an episode about merchandising on and I got you the bear as a joke

Xhafer:

before I turned in the episode, right.

Laura:

Uh, huh.

Xhafer:

JMS notes.

Xhafer:

This is the only time he went in and changed a script

Xhafer:

without talking to the author.

Laura:

And he, did he add this part?

Laura:

Is that

Xhafer:

He added this whole end.

Xhafer:

whole end is all JMS.

Xhafer:

Um, so.

Laura:

very cute.

Laura:

And I think that th that Peter David probably loved it.

Laura:

So.

Xhafer:

Yeah, well, that's why the initials on the bearer JS, by

Xhafer:

the way, it wasn't John Sheridan.

Xhafer:

Is.

Xhafer:

It was a, you know, initials.

Xhafer:

So Susan's keys.

Xhafer:

So he wrote the scene and put it in the episode without telling.

Xhafer:

And Peter David found out when it aired.

Xhafer:

That, uh, when they found out the, who the bear was supposed to be.

Xhafer:

Uh, he had it spaced.

Laura:

I thought it was cute.

Laura:

And see, this is one of those things that you remember about the

Laura:

show you remember shared in space.

Laura:

The bear.

Laura:

It's an iconic B.

Laura:

Five moment.

Laura:

You know, it's something that's very memorable.

Laura:

I also think it's very funny that we get Warren kefir as

Laura:

the pilot that discovers this

Xhafer:

Oh, yeah, I got to have something.

Xhafer:

He hasn't been in an episode in a while.

Laura:

30 seconds of Talia.

Laura:

30 seconds of Warren kefir.

Laura:

You

Xhafer:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

them in there.

Laura:

it's cute.

Laura:

would love a bear.

Xhafer:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

This whole episode is great.

Xhafer:

In fact, I think on a scale of Babylon's one to five, I'm going to

Xhafer:

go ahead and throw this at a four.

Laura:

I think I do too well.

Laura:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

Maybe four and a half, even.

Xhafer:

It's a great episode.

Laura:

I'm going to keep it at four.

Laura:

I'm not going to go that high.

Laura:

I love the merge.

Laura:

Subplot.

Laura:

I think it's cute.

Laura:

And I think it's extra cute that it is written by Peter David.

Laura:

Since Peter David wrote so much star Trek stuff.

Laura:

That you know, obviously that franchise is very heavily merchandised.

Xhafer:

Yes.

Laura:

And so, you know, it feels a little like from his experience.

Laura:

with the franchise and watching the merchandise happen around that franchise.

Laura:

So I think it's a nice little.

Laura:

Wink at how, know, in, uh, in America, especially in, in our Saifai fandoms, we

Laura:

have this tendency to merge everything.

Laura:

There were some parts of the main plot that I was like, Come on.

Laura:

Things things shouldn't be happening to this order.

Laura:

Like we, we should have talked about the gun sooner.

Laura:

Um, There's no mention trying to catch the guy that stole shared in this link.

Laura:

Like after

Xhafer:

well, it's already turned off its point.

Xhafer:

It's worthless.

Xhafer:

You know,

Laura:

he was obviously an accessory to this crime.

Laura:

Like he was, he was in on it.

Laura:

He was in on doing.

Laura:

Framing

Xhafer:

effectively.

Xhafer:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

Yeah.

Laura:

I think.

Laura:

That we should probably follow up on that Garibaldi.

Laura:

there's.

Xhafer:

detective.

Xhafer:

Classes.

Xhafer:

You caught the bad guy you saved the day.

Xhafer:

You know what I mean?

Xhafer:

What's clean up.

Laura:

Right, right, right, right.

Laura:

We don't have to be super thick.

Laura:

Maybe they're going to send linear after that guy.

Laura:

I don't know.

Laura:

So that doesn't push it into the 4.5.

Laura:

Decimal territory for me, but I, I do like the show and it

Laura:

pushes forward a lot of stuff.

Laura:

And.

Xhafer:

Yeah, it's fun.

Xhafer:

I like everything about this episode.

Xhafer:

I'm here for it.

Laura:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

next episode, we've got season two episode 16 knives.

Xhafer:

Sheridan is plagued by bizarre visions.

Xhafer:

The ambitious Londo encounters and ethical dilemma with an old friend.

Laura:

I remembered since it's number two.

Laura:

I did not remember sentence number one.

Xhafer:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

Yeah, the APL out on this episode.

Xhafer:

Well, it's actually the B plot of this episode is the Sheridan.

Xhafer:

Stuff and even, uh, Well, we'll talk about it next week.

Xhafer:

Uh, but I've already done the research on this one.

Xhafer:

And JMS had some feelings about it.

Laura:

Oh, I can't wait to hear it.

Laura:

All right.
