Transcript
Xhafer:

Hello, and welcome to who are you?

Xhafer:

A Babylon five watch cast hosted by two former strangers.

Xhafer:

Now friends.

Xhafer:

Who are continuing to get to know each other while we're watching

Xhafer:

one of their favorite shows from their childhood Babylon five

Laura:

And I'm Laura.

Xhafer:

And we're going to do a little recasting today.

Laura:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

I paused, like we have a drop for recasting.

Xhafer:

We don't have a drop for recasting to.

Laura:

Well, it's it's.

Laura:

Who are you casting for these roles?

Xhafer:

Hoo.

Xhafer:

Hoo hoo.

Xhafer:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

So there hasn't been a lot of reboot news.

Xhafer:

There was the uh, the gathering of the league of non-aligned

Xhafer:

podcasts, like two months ago.

Xhafer:

When there was the big internet push.

Xhafer:

JMS is tweeted like 1 cents then saying like, Hey.

Xhafer:

This was noticed.

Xhafer:

Thank you.

Xhafer:

We out trended the queen.

Xhafer:

The day of her funeral.

Xhafer:

So I guess people care about Babylon five.

Xhafer:

And Then nothing.

Xhafer:

And it's just like, it's like, he treated, I want to say maybe.

Xhafer:

Three weeks ago from recording.

Xhafer:

So like a month ago, two months ago from listen.

Xhafer:

That when there is news, he'll share it, but right now, nothing.

Laura:

Which just means stop bugging me.

Laura:

You guys.

Xhafer:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

I will say something when I know something, please stop asking.

Xhafer:

We do have the announced Babylon five project that's coming out.

Xhafer:

Sometime this year.

Xhafer:

In

Xhafer:

2023.

Laura:

Was it puppets.

Laura:

I'm still holding

Laura:

out for puppets.

Xhafer:

That had.

Xhafer:

every surviving cast member was a part

Xhafer:

of is what.

Xhafer:

Is what he said.

Xhafer:

We have no idea what it is.

Xhafer:

But we're going to continue our recasting like we're going to get a reboot here.

Xhafer:

In a year or two.

Laura:

Yeah.

Laura:

We're aspirational on this podcast.

Laura:

Reach for the stars.

. Xhafer:

Optimistic.

. Xhafer:

So we got two rolls.

. Xhafer:

We're going to recast today.

. Xhafer:

And we're going to talk about recasting Marcus and Zack.

. Xhafer:

They're both kind of supporting characters.

. Xhafer:

The way the plot works and they're, they're very different people.

. Xhafer:

But it's very easy to see them fulfilling kind of similar roles with regards to

. Xhafer:

plot movement based off of what they do.

. Xhafer:

They're just coming at it from very different sides.

. Xhafer:

And it's not a ton of roles to get a lot of.

. Xhafer:

I haven't read much or heard much about people comparing these two

. Xhafer:

characters, which is surprising to me.

. Xhafer:

Given they're both effectively security officers for their respective

. Xhafer:

groups.

Laura:

Yeah, just very different sides of the coin.

Xhafer:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

So I think it's fun to talk about them together because

Xhafer:

I don't hear that very often.

Xhafer:

And I like things that are novel.

Xhafer:

I suppose, if there's like a billion D podcasts about this and my

Xhafer:

obstinance of listening to Babylon five podcasts while we're recording

Xhafer:

is shooting me in the foot here.

Xhafer:

Feel free to tell me on our discord, which you can join by finding it on Facebook or

Xhafer:

emailing us for the link at who are you.

Xhafer:

five@gmail.com.

Xhafer:

I will accept my criticism.

Xhafer:

They're nowhere else.

Xhafer:

But there are two very interesting characters that are two very

Xhafer:

different sides of the same coin.

Laura:

Yeah.

Laura:

So I'm curious what you would want to see from your reboot and who you would want

Laura:

to see cast in either of these roles.

Laura:

Do you want to start.

Xhafer:

Who, yeah.

Xhafer:

Who do you want to do first?

Laura:

Well, maybe let's do Marcus first because we've seen more of

Laura:

him recently, and we're going to get some more of Zach in this episode.

Laura:

So we'll do him second.

Xhafer:

For Marcus, there's only one real person that came to mind.

Xhafer:

Immediately.

Xhafer:

And they're a little bit older than Marcus but I'm going to cast

Xhafer:

my Zack a little bit younger.

Xhafer:

So in the reboot, we might trade off.

Xhafer:

Maybe some plots will move from one character to

Xhafer:

another.

Xhafer:

Based off of that.

Xhafer:

I like the idea of Marcus instead of being kind of the impetuous young ranger go

Xhafer:

getter, being a bit more of a like wise.

Xhafer:

Kind of, I've been doing this for a while.

Xhafer:

Maybe one of the first human Rangers.

Xhafer:

To . Mix it up a little.

Xhafer:

And when I think Marcus.

Xhafer:

I think of the actor that I confused him with for

Xhafer:

forever, who he is not played by.

Xhafer:

Which is Henry Ian Cusick.

Laura:

Okay.

Laura:

I've got to Google this name because it is not.

Xhafer:

Did you watch last?

Laura:

I did not.

Laura:

Which I

Xhafer:

He's Duncan and

Laura:

Okay.

Xhafer:

But yeah, Google a

Xhafer:

picture

Xhafer:

of him and you'll go, Oh, yes.

Laura:

I see it.

Xhafer:

I understand now.

Xhafer:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

Yeah, he's they, they look a lot alike.

Xhafer:

And Henry and Kusa can do.

Xhafer:

A little bit of action.

Xhafer:

He can do.

Xhafer:

We've seen that from him in his roles.

Xhafer:

And I think he could bring a kind of fresh take to the character

Xhafer:

being the kind of like older wiser kind of like hardened ranger.

Xhafer:

I'm still quoting a very literary.

Xhafer:

Kind of a guy.

Xhafer:

Because that feeling he can do the British accent really

Laura:

Yeah, I was going to say, I see in, in the Wikipedia here that he's Peruvian

Laura:

Scottish, so he's got to have a delightful accent, even though I haven't heard him.

Xhafer:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

So I think that could be a lot of fun and I don't really have anything

Xhafer:

else to base that casting on.

Xhafer:

Besides I think that the actor would do a good job.

Xhafer:

And damn does he look like

Laura:

Yeah, he sure does.

Xhafer:

Jason Carter.

Xhafer:

Thank you.

Laura:

Well, I feel.

Laura:

A little bit more justified in my also wanting to cast

Laura:

somebody who is very like Marcus.

Laura:

I know we've gone a little bit wild there with some of our casting

Laura:

and, and um, you know, not been so.

Laura:

Stuck to kind of who the person is that we know.

Laura:

But I also had that I've really.

Laura:

Wanted him to be British.

Laura:

And so for mine, it again, he's a little bit older.

Laura:

He's 51, but I selected David Tennant.

Xhafer:

Oh, okay.

Xhafer:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

I

Laura:

So, if you, especially, if you Google David Tennant, when he had his

Laura:

COVID hair it's a little bit longer.

Laura:

It's not quite long enough.

Laura:

Like, you know, if we want.

Laura:

To go full Marcus.

Laura:

It needs to be a little bit longer.

Laura:

But he's also got the scruffy beard.

Laura:

And, you know, it's really important to me that Marcus be a quippy kind of guy.

Laura:

And.

Xhafer:

Oh, and Dave attended is the

Laura:

He's the quirkiest.

Laura:

He can do it, but he's also done, you know, he's done the doctor,

Laura:

so he's done that like wiser.

Laura:

More experienced thing that, that vibe that you were going for.

Laura:

So you can get.

Laura:

The best of a lot of worlds there, I feel.

Laura:

A little bad about not going.

Laura:

A little crazier with my casting and getting a little more

Laura:

diverse or out there with Marcus.

Laura:

But.

Laura:

I just.

Laura:

We really think that David tenet has got the quips and that's what I want.

Xhafer:

All right.

Xhafer:

So no, I think that's excellent.

Xhafer:

I think David Tennant would, could do a really fun

Xhafer:

job with it.

Xhafer:

I can see him doing the bit with the staff from last

Laura:

Exactly.

Laura:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

Just spot on no changes required.

Xhafer:

Just him having a blast doing that.

Xhafer:

I'd watch

Laura:

Got to work that one in, please guys.

Xhafer:

All right.

Xhafer:

So Zach Allen.

Xhafer:

Now the last one, I went for something where the actor reminded

Xhafer:

me a bit based off appearance.

Xhafer:

For this one, I'm going to go for the actor.

Xhafer:

Reminded me again.

Xhafer:

But not appearance at

Xhafer:

all.

Xhafer:

I guess maybe kind of a little so.

Xhafer:

When I think Zach Allen.

Xhafer:

As a character.

Xhafer:

We need someone.

Xhafer:

Maybe with like who's played a police officer or

Xhafer:

something that kind of regard.

Xhafer:

Box checked.

Xhafer:

We'll look at the actor, Jeff Conaway.

Xhafer:

There's two things that pop up to mind.

Xhafer:

One total fucking nerd fan boy.

Xhafer:

Who got on the show because of being a fan.

Xhafer:

. And two is a history with musicals.

Laura:

That's true.

Laura:

Yes.

Xhafer:

So when casting Zach Allen, I'm going to look to Barry Allen.

Xhafer:

The flashes grant Gustin.

Xhafer:

Who is a total nerd, a total fan boy, and was on glee for like three seasons.

Laura:

Okay, I'm Googling because again, you've thrown a name

Laura:

at me that I don't quite know.

Laura:

God, who is he?

Laura:

Uncle Lee.

Xhafer:

Uh, He was one of the new

Laura:

Okay.

Laura:

I only watched like, yeah, I only watched the first couple of seasons.

Xhafer:

Uh, You did yourself a favor.

Laura:

Yeah, but he looks like he could be ugly just looking at this headshot.

Xhafer:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

for

Laura:

Yeah.

Laura:

So he's played a cop.

Xhafer:

Barry Allen is technically a police officer.

Laura:

Oh, Okay.

Xhafer:

Uh, the flash.

Xhafer:

So going a bit younger with Zack.

Xhafer:

So, like I said, like maybe we can flip a little bit of story if

Xhafer:

we need to or at the very least some like character arc stuff.

Xhafer:

I think having a younger, more impressionable.

Xhafer:

Kind of young security officer kind of fits in better with the Nightwatch stuff.

Xhafer:

At least it's a different take on it.

Xhafer:

History has shown us that that is not the case when it comes

Xhafer:

to accepting fascist propaganda.

Xhafer:

But Hey.

Xhafer:

You know, We can, we can pretend.

Xhafer:

So yeah, I think grant Gusto could do an interesting take on that.

Xhafer:

And I'd definitely watch it.

Laura:

Yeah.

Laura:

That's a good look.

Laura:

I like it.

Laura:

I decided to lean into my imagination a little more for my Zach Allen casting.

Laura:

So.

Laura:

You know, when we did Garibaldi.

Laura:

I selected TIG Notaro, right?

Xhafer:

Yeah.

Laura:

So I leaned kind of into that vibe.

Laura:

And I thought who gives me that kind of feeling.

Laura:

Uh, Is a little more comedic that I could see in this sort of every man role.

Laura:

Cause to me, that's what Zach is.

Laura:

He's the every man, right?

Laura:

He's the one who.

Laura:

We would more likely be if we were in the Babylon five universe,

Laura:

more of a, every person sort of.

Laura:

Character.

Laura:

And.

Laura:

I thought about fortune Feemster.

Xhafer:

I don't know this

Laura:

So she's a standup comedian.

Laura:

Has a Netflix special, I believe.

Laura:

And I've seen.

Laura:

The workaround on, on Facebook, lots of Facebook videos.

Laura:

And then also.

Laura:

She was in, is it cake?

Laura:

On Netflix.

Xhafer:

I have seen as at cake.

Xhafer:

I was trying to figure out what I recognized her

Laura:

Yeah.

Laura:

If you look at this she's in that first episode, I believe of, is it cake?

Laura:

But I feel like I could see her in a cop's uniform.

Laura:

I can see her doing the jacket bit.

Laura:

You know, about this jacket doesn't fit.

Laura:

And, you know, doing kind of a, a plan dumb.

Laura:

Going along with the flow of the universe around.

Laura:

You know, long enough for us to get a good.

Laura:

Nightwatch plot.

Laura:

Out of, out of her and it really.

Laura:

W she would also be great with TIG.

Laura:

I think.

Xhafer:

Yeah.

Laura:

really really be a fun duo to be our space cops.

Laura:

I think so.

Xhafer:

I would, I would watch that for sure.

Xhafer:

In fact, I don't, they don't need a Babylon five recast or

Xhafer:

spinoff or remake or whatever.

Xhafer:

Just have the two of them be space cops for me, just make it happen,

Laura:

Let's just build a series.

Laura:

He's around these two space cops.

Xhafer:

Right, please.

Xhafer:

I'm here for it.

Xhafer:

That's.

Xhafer:

That'll be fun.

Laura:

Yeah.

Laura:

Okay.

Laura:

Well, I think we've put together some bang up cast.

Xhafer:

Just like we've got a bang up episode ahead of us.

Xhafer:

Season three, episode eight messages from

Xhafer:

earth.

Xhafer:

So a couple of notes before we get started.

Xhafer:

JMS considers this the perfect episode of Babylon

Laura:

Oh

Xhafer:

this is the bar right here.

Xhafer:

Like if you can do better than this episode.

Xhafer:

You're fucking fantastic.

Xhafer:

This is it.

Xhafer:

This is, this is what we want to do every time.

Xhafer:

This is the

Laura:

That's interesting.

Xhafer:

is the gold standard.

Laura:

I definitely know that we have some episodes coming up that I feel.

Laura:

That way about those episodes.

Xhafer:

Yes.

Xhafer:

Well, this is the first of a three parter.

Laura:

Okay.

Xhafer:

And it was considered as such by most people in the production.

Xhafer:

It's not a straight to be continued, but this and the two episodes following.

Xhafer:

R a one story arc.

Xhafer:

That marks the midpoint of the story of Babylon five.

Laura:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

We're coming up at the halfway point of season three, it

Xhafer:

was planned to be five seasons.

Xhafer:

This would be it.

Xhafer:

And it's treated as such.

Xhafer:

And it's given the kind of breathing room.

Xhafer:

And respect you would see entailed from knowing that this

Xhafer:

is the middle point of the white

Laura:

Yeah.

Laura:

And I think we talked to off pod last week about it's a little sad

Laura:

when you think about it, that here we are at the mid point of the story.

Laura:

And yes, it gets five seasons, but they didn't know they

Laura:

were getting five seasons.

Laura:

So at.

Laura:

At one point.

Laura:

Parts of the story.

Laura:

Feel a little bit rushed after here.

Xhafer:

For sure.

Xhafer:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

So if you're unaware with center Season what the plan for seasons

Xhafer:

four and five were, were combined into just season four, due to network

Xhafer:

drama with P 10, no longer existing.

Xhafer:

And the show effectively Feeling like it was not going to get a fifth season,

Xhafer:

ended up getting a fifth season T and T rescued the show last a minute.

Xhafer:

It was a whole thing.

Xhafer:

They were all at a convention when they found out and they literally

Xhafer:

rolled out contracts to actors drunk at 2:00 AM, which was super not cool.

Xhafer:

And why we lost quality of Christiansen because she's all

Xhafer:

like, I don't care what it is.

Xhafer:

I'm not doing

Laura:

Oh, yeah.

Laura:

Okay.

Xhafer:

I'm drunk.

Xhafer:

Why you pulling your contract out at 2:00 AM?

Xhafer:

This is fucking shady.

Xhafer:

So more power to her.

Xhafer:

We miss her.

Xhafer:

In season five, but that's a topic for 50 episodes from

Xhafer:

now.

Xhafer:

So we've had.

Xhafer:

About 60 episodes of TV.

Xhafer:

This is the mid point.

Xhafer:

He was expecting effectively another 60 episodes to wrap up the story.

Xhafer:

He ended up with 30 and he didn't know he was going to be

Xhafer:

there until 10 episodes from

Laura:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

So season four is crazy.

Xhafer:

For a number of reasons, this being probably the biggest one.

Xhafer:

Cause this was it.

Xhafer:

This was the halfway point.

Xhafer:

This was supposed to be the middle of the story.

Xhafer:

And because of how it all turned out.

Xhafer:

It just.

Xhafer:

Accelerates at a different pace.

Xhafer:

And we don't get to spend three episodes doing a single thing like this

Xhafer:

does.

Laura:

But these three episodes are fantastic.

Xhafer:

We opened on the mess hall with Sheridan.

Xhafer:

Ivanova clearly having a more military background compared to Garibaldi

Xhafer:

is complaining about having to eat the same thing for breakfast

Xhafer:

every day for the last three years.

Xhafer:

And they show us some pictures of this, like blue

Laura:

Yeah.

Laura:

I take exception

Laura:

to this.

Laura:

Oh, it's blueberry yogurt.

Xhafer:

But it's lovely.

Xhafer:

It's . Blueberry yogurt.

Xhafer:

It was just shot funny.

Xhafer:

And.

Xhafer:

I don't know if they colored it or something to make it look less

Xhafer:

appetizing, but it's, it's just

Laura:

Yeah, sure.

Laura:

I take exception to this though, because I feel like we've had at

Laura:

least a couple of episodes where we've seen them eating breakfast.

Laura:

And it wasn't the same blue goop every time, you know, there's a breakfast there.

Laura:

So.

Laura:

Yeah.

Laura:

All right.

Laura:

Show.

Laura:

I see you.

Xhafer:

there's some dude Nightwatch propaganda up on the walls that

Xhafer:

don't talk about by the way, in this

Laura:

Oh, yeah.

Laura:

Do tell.

Xhafer:

Oh, that that's just, it's hard to read even in the remaster.

Xhafer:

It's just like, if you see something, say something just

Xhafer:

in the mess hall now, which is.

Xhafer:

Of note given this episode and how it happens at the end of

Laura:

Yeah, sure.

Xhafer:

But while they're complaining about the Susan gets delivered.

Xhafer:

A very fancy breakfast, courtesy of Marcus.

Xhafer:

We see a nice little handwritten letter addressed to her and everything.

Laura:

Well, she did give him roses.

Xhafer:

She didn't give him roses.

Xhafer:

And she got him an identity card so that he can like use the station facilities.

Xhafer:

I don't know why I assumed this was like bathroom.

Xhafer:

Privileges.

Xhafer:

Or something weird, like maybe the gym or something like.

Laura:

I assumed it was a fake ID.

Laura:

She got him a fake ID.

Laura:

Yeah, I mean, Which just, wow.

Laura:

Okay.

Laura:

Yeah, so he got her a fancy breakfast, bacon and eggs.

Xhafer:

Oh, yeah.

Xhafer:

Real eggs scare.

Xhafer:

Baldies

Laura:

Yeah.

Laura:

And this is where we find out that Sheridan likes to watch.

Xhafer:

Is it where we find out we've, we've talked, we've

Xhafer:

theorized about uh, Sheridan's.

Xhafer:

Bedroom life a couple of times

Xhafer:

at

Laura:

Well, let's just chalk that up in the column, you know?

Xhafer:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

Put a note for linear Hilton.

Xhafer:

He'll want to know that.

Xhafer:

she decides to reward him.

Xhafer:

For this glorious breakfast.

Xhafer:

With death.

Laura:

Hmm.

Xhafer:

After breakfast though, she's going to, she's going to eat her

Xhafer:

breakfast and then she can find it.

Xhafer:

She's going to

Laura:

Classic.

Laura:

I bought a gift.

Laura:

Yes.

Laura:

But we cut to two Marcus.

Xhafer:

hard cut to

Xhafer:

Marcus.

Laura:

And he's in down below with a mysterious woman and they're

Laura:

trying to flee from some people.

Laura:

Bad people, I would assume.

Xhafer:

we get

Xhafer:

a fun fight scene

Laura:

Yeah, we get some of those excellent Marcus martial arts.

Xhafer:

he's using a staff to fight people with nunchucks.

Xhafer:

Laura.

Xhafer:

Have you ever, have you ever used a staff to try to fight

Xhafer:

someone with nunchucks before?

Laura:

know, I've never used a staff to fight anyone.

Laura:

I've pretend fought with a piece of PVC pipe that was laying around

Laura:

my house when I was a child.

Laura:

Pretending to be Marcus actually.

Xhafer:

I've done that too.

Xhafer:

And I've actually done a bit of staff fighting over the years.

Xhafer:

But never against anyone with nunchucks, it seems completely

Laura:

It seems like it would be very hard.

Laura:

Yes.

Laura:

Or maybe harder for the person with the nunchucks really.

Xhafer:

Hundred percent harder for the person with none.

Xhafer:

Nunchucks are a notoriously difficult weapon to use there.

Xhafer:

Of all the weapons.

Xhafer:

Why would you ever pick nunchucks?

Xhafer:

If you're offered a literally anything?

Xhafer:

I would rather take two sticks, not attached on a

Xhafer:

chain that I would nunchucks.

Laura:

If you encounter the.

Laura:

Street fighter with an uncheck.

Laura:

So you know that they've been working at it right.

Xhafer:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

I mean, that's what Bruce Lee made it look so easy that everyone was all

Xhafer:

like, oh, nunchucks are a great weapon.

Xhafer:

And he's all like, no, Bruce Lee was just that fucking good

Xhafer:

to make them look effective.

Laura:

Yeah.

Laura:

So maybe not those guys.

Xhafer:

Anyways.

Xhafer:

Marcus may or may not have failed in its objective to theme.

Laura:

Yeah.

Laura:

Is she breathing?

Laura:

We don't know.

Xhafer:

don't know.

Xhafer:

But we come back to, not this, immediately, we come back to I s.

Xhafer:

talking about sedition outside evils and how everyone's gotta

Xhafer:

prepare for some extreme measures.

Laura:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

Oh, good.

Laura:

Just what we wanted.

Xhafer:

We cut over to MetaLab where we're the currently

Xhafer:

unknown escapee is being treated.

Xhafer:

It looks like she'll be okay.

Xhafer:

While Dzhokhar gets a visit from Garibaldi.

Laura:

good to see him.

Laura:

He looks healthy.

Laura:

He looks well.

Xhafer:

does.

Xhafer:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

Other prisoners are petitioning

Xhafer:

To stop.

Xhafer:

the perceived torture of Dzhokhar.

Xhafer:

He was singing.

Xhafer:

And he isn't that bad.

Xhafer:

We've heard him sing.

Xhafer:

It's not

Laura:

Yeah, he's quite delightful.

Laura:

That's very rude.

Xhafer:

Th this is

Laura:

Hm.

Xhafer:

Gary, baldies trying to read the book of Shaquan but he's having a

Xhafer:

hard time because he doesn't read Nard.

Laura:

I'm surprised that Garibaldi is even attempting to read Nard.

Laura:

Pleasantly pleasantly surprised.

Laura:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

He's, he's effectively learning to read Nard.

Xhafer:

And by reading the book.

Xhafer:

In Jakarta, it gets kind of like, you can't translate it.

Xhafer:

That's it has to be read in the original.

Xhafer:

It's just like, okay, well, Then you can't learn to read.

Xhafer:

W NARKN with this because you literally would have to translate it

Xhafer:

to learn how to read it in the first

Xhafer:

place.

Xhafer:

So, I guess maybe you like read a passage, read a line, translate the line, or

Xhafer:

a couple of the words, figure it out.

Xhafer:

Kind of like, I don't know, like how you do this without offending.

Xhafer:

Checar effectively.

Laura:

but considering Garibaldi is been the guy actively mispronouncing

Laura:

ethnic names in the show.

Laura:

It's very impressive that he's attempting.

Laura:

To do this for his friend.

Laura:

So.

Laura:

Good.

Laura:

Good.

Laura:

Try.

Xhafer:

Yep.

Xhafer:

Before we leave Dzhokhar cell, he notes that he's begun writing his own book.

Laura:

Yeah, the book of Jakarta.

Xhafer:

The book of your cars, it will become to be known.

Xhafer:

And uh, yeah, he hopes to have it done.

Xhafer:

During the term of his pre imprisonment.

Laura:

days.

Laura:

That's not very long.

Laura:

My dude.

Xhafer:

I mean that's twice a NaNoWriMo, so.

Laura:

That's true.

Xhafer:

It's not like you got a whole lot else going on.

Xhafer:

It's that?

Xhafer:

And the prison

Laura:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

for

Xhafer:

trocar.

Xhafer:

And the singing.

Xhafer:

But, oh, Hey, that package has arrived.

Xhafer:

That was alluded to

Laura:

Yeah, it's a person.

Laura:

It's this person.

Xhafer:

Yep.

Xhafer:

It's Dr.

Xhafer:

Mary Kertesz.

Xhafer:

Garibaldi recounts a story from the Babylon five comics.

Laura:

Okay.

Laura:

That was where I was doing a little bit of research before this episode.

Laura:

Because.

Laura:

When this plot started rolling.

Laura:

As my husband and I are watching.

Laura:

I was like, has this been mentioned in the show yet?

Xhafer:

No.

Laura:

Okay.

Laura:

I feel better now.

Xhafer:

It hasn't no, this is all from.

Xhafer:

I want to say issue eight of the Babylon five comics.

Xhafer:

If I'm remembering what I read earlier today.

Xhafer:

Properly.

Xhafer:

Yeah, so this story was told by, from Garibaldi perspective there, where he sees

Xhafer:

the shadow ship leave and finds the Sycor

Xhafer:

emblem.

Xhafer:

As we see in a little bit.

Laura:

And apparently Sinclair was with him the whole time

Laura:

for this little adventure.

Laura:

He mentioned that.

Xhafer:

Yup.

Xhafer:

But we get Dr.

Xhafer:

Curtis's side of things.

Xhafer:

Dr.

Xhafer:

Kertesz of course is uh, played

Xhafer:

By Knoxville.

Xhafer:

film festival award winner.

Xhafer:

Nancy Stafford.

Xhafer:

Everyone knew that right.

Laura:

Sure.

Xhafer:

Knoxville film festival

Xhafer:

award.

Laura:

Yeah, I follow the

Xhafer:

Best best narrative feature damaged goods.

Xhafer:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

I thought everyone follows the next hill film festival.

Xhafer:

I

Laura:

Very closely.

Laura:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

After a year.

Xhafer:

She's in like over half of Matlock St.

Xhafer:

Elsewhere.

Xhafer:

She was in, she, she did a stint in scandal recently.

Xhafer:

So she's been in a ton of stuff.

Xhafer:

If you recognize her from

Xhafer:

Not.

Xhafer:

her award-winning film.

Xhafer:

Damaged goods from the next cell phone festival.

. Laura:

Well, she's still working, I guess, if she was on

. Laura:

scandal, that's pretty recent.

. Laura:

So.

. Laura:

Good job.

. Laura:

Good for her.

Xhafer:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

I mean, she won that award in 2018.

Xhafer:

So.

Laura:

Very nice.

Xhafer:

Did I sell how ridiculous that was

Laura:

You did, you did.

Xhafer:

Okay, just checking.

Laura:

So Mary side of things is that she was working for

Laura:

interplanetary expeditions.

Laura:

We're getting a, a drop from them again.

Laura:

And they had found some sort of artifact on Mars.

Laura:

And she was

Laura:

helping.

Xhafer:

for a thousand years.

Laura:

years.

Laura:

Key key words there.

Laura:

And.

Laura:

They were helping excavate this piece of technology on Mars.

Laura:

Well, they get told by higher ups at some point that they are to evacuate the area.

Laura:

Leave.

Laura:

And they can just sit basically in their bunker and watch and see what's happening.

Laura:

As they're watching and they're waiting.

Laura:

They see a, another vessel, just like the one they've been digging up.

Laura:

Show up.

Laura:

In the sky.

Laura:

And they think it's there to destroy.

Laura:

The vessel that they are trying to get out of the ground, but she realizes

Laura:

that it is actually digging it up.

Laura:

With its weapons

Xhafer:

It's ex excavating

Laura:

Yeah, so it finishes the excavation.

Laura:

And pulls this other ship away.

Laura:

Should they hear a scream?

Laura:

She mentioned that.

Xhafer:

Well, the ship gets piloted.

Xhafer:

I think.

Laura:

Oh, does it.

Laura:

Okay.

Xhafer:

It's what's unsaid.

Xhafer:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

Because the ship seems to be flying of its own accord.

Xhafer:

Away.

Xhafer:

So I would assume that, and there's also some downtime.

Xhafer:

There's like 30 minutes in between them.

Xhafer:

The ship.

Xhafer:

Landing.

Xhafer:

And then both ships taking

Laura:

Yeah.

Laura:

So it reactivates itself, basically.

Laura:

And they hear the scream in their mind and.

Laura:

They both fly away.

Laura:

So Garibaldi is point of view.

Xhafer:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

As a gear Baldy.

Xhafer:

Uh, Was in a shuttle.

Xhafer:

On Mars with Sinclair, when this all went down.

Xhafer:

Saw the ships had no idea what was going on.

Xhafer:

And then went to the site to see what was going on.

Xhafer:

I mean, your security guards, probably going to check stuff out.

Xhafer:

And all he found was a Sycor badge.

Laura:

it was a little, little burned up psych or badge that he

Laura:

still has on him in this episode.

Xhafer:

Now I think it's implied.

Xhafer:

Given what we learned later in this episode about shadow

Xhafer:

ships, having a single pilot.

Xhafer:

And us learning later in the show spoilers.

Xhafer:

That those pilots are telepaths.

Xhafer:

That the ship was piloted by someone from Cycore like the shit that was

Xhafer:

reactivated, someone from Sycor took over.

Xhafer:

And that's why the batch was left

Laura:

Yeah.

Laura:

And basically once they had gotten so far in there, Excavation

Laura:

interplanetary expeditions had.

Laura:

Some point, it came to Mr.

Laura:

Morton's attention.

Laura:

And they.

Laura:

Called for another shadow ship to help get this thing out.

Laura:

So.

Xhafer:

Yep.

Xhafer:

I do think it's interesting by the way.

Xhafer:

To completely change the topic.

Xhafer:

For a moment.

Laura:

Hm.

Xhafer:

That we know that the last shadow war was a thousand years ago.

Laura:

Yeah,

Laura:

that's been mentioned.

Xhafer:

were.

Xhafer:

On the vicinity of earth, if they were on Mars.

Xhafer:

During that time.

Xhafer:

You know, what else was happening?

Xhafer:

A thousand years ago from them 800 years ago from us.

Xhafer:

It D 1260s.

Laura:

Mm.

Xhafer:

It was the dark ages.

Laura:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

Just a ton of lost history.

Laura:

I was sitting here going what's that about the time of the plague?

Xhafer:

Uh,

Xhafer:

When was the

Xhafer:

plague?

Xhafer:

I think it was a little bit later, but maybe not that much later.

Laura:

Because that'd be

Laura:

a fun virus

Xhafer:

1346 to 1353 was when the plague was running around

Xhafer:

Western Eurasia and north

Xhafer:

Africa.

Laura:

So.

Laura:

Not quite, not quite.

Laura:

And I think in our Sycor books, that's when we found out

Laura:

that the Orlon ship had been.

Laura:

Put . On, put around Venus to.

Laura:

Something like that.

Xhafer:

Uh, So yeah.

Xhafer:

The black plague would have been about a hundred years after.

Laura:

well, maybe they lift some weapons behind.

Laura:

We know they're not above that.

Laura:

Right.

Laura:

I don't know.

Xhafer:

For sure.

Xhafer:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

It'd be interesting.

Xhafer:

Just like given how little is known about.

Xhafer:

You know, there's like it's famously period of non hat, non history, right?

Xhafer:

Like we don't know.

Xhafer:

A ton about what was going on.

Xhafer:

And we know that at the same time the shadows were on NARKN.

Laura:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

things up

Laura:

Also fucking their

Xhafer:

Um, and also taking To be used as foot soldiers.

Xhafer:

So it's very possible.

Xhafer:

They were doing the same with humans.

Laura:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

At this time.

Laura:

Could be.

Xhafer:

That could be why history is what it is.

Xhafer:

Interesting overlap.

Laura:

all of this to say that, you know, Mary Kirk is just story

Laura:

and Garibaldi story are important.

Laura:

Relevant, especially now.

Laura:

Because.

Laura:

One of these other ships has also been found on Ganymede.

Xhafer:

Yeah, just recently big deal.

Laura:

And so I believe interplanetary expeditions is also.

Laura:

Digging this one out.

Xhafer:

Dr.

Xhafer:

Kirk ish is basically like, they're going to kill me now.

Xhafer:

So it's been fun, but I had to sell it to . Them.

Xhafer:

One.

Xhafer:

And Dylan's all like got you, bro.

Laura:

She's getting written off

Laura:

to member.

Xhafer:

Yep.

Xhafer:

Britain off to minbar.

Laura:

Very short lived.

Laura:

Well, VR seems to like it there.

Laura:

So it's going to be okay.

Xhafer:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

She got hanging out with veer and Sinclair on

Laura:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

Oh, it's like immediately two winners, all like we're leaving from Imbar

Laura:

Yeah.

Laura:

He's very gracious.

Laura:

He helps her out of her chair and takes her off.

Laura:

And that's it for her on this episode and the show.

Xhafer:

And Sheridan is shook.

Xhafer:

Because the implication here is that earth gov and Sycor are

Xhafer:

both working with the shadows.

Laura:

Yeah.

Laura:

If that ship got called.

Laura:

We know Mr.

Laura:

Morton's voice was in the other video.

Laura:

Like we we've got.

Laura:

Some uh, pretty damning evidence at this point.

Xhafer:

Yep.

Xhafer:

Over at security, we see Zach informed of a Nightwatch meeting tomorrow.

Xhafer:

A unnamed security dude, who I've been calling in my head, officer, Alex Jones.

Xhafer:

Makes me yell a cab.

Xhafer:

As we cut to Sheridan taking off his earth force badge all dramatically

Xhafer:

while looking out into space.

Xhafer:

He tells Dylan he's going to do the thing and he's got to tell the others.

Laura:

Yeah.

Laura:

He's going to put on the civilian clothes of.

Laura:

Possible mutiny, I guess.

Xhafer:

The civilian clothes of possible mutiny.

Xhafer:

Ding.

Xhafer:

Um, plan is to take the white star to Ganymede and just fucking destroy

Xhafer:

that shadow shit before it has a chance to fall into president Clark's

Laura:

Yeah, no one knows what the white star is still.

Laura:

Like, we, we haven't shown it to earth yet.

Laura:

They don't know that it's a pseudo earth.

Laura:

Minbar you ship?

Laura:

They'll just think that we're some unknown.

Laura:

And as long as we don't get caught.

Laura:

We can take this thing out.

Laura:

So it's not a bad plan.

. Xhafer:

Yeah.

. Xhafer:

There are some concerns.

. Xhafer:

Uh, He is asked if he's willing to fire on earth ships.

. Xhafer:

He asked what will happen if he is captured?

. Xhafer:

And he doesn't answer one.

. Xhafer:

He doesn't answer where he feel fire on earth ship.

. Xhafer:

Because he doesn't know.

. Xhafer:

But he's like, well, they're not taking me alive.

. Xhafer:

So.

. Xhafer:

I'm not worried about that

Laura:

Sure.

Laura:

If I got to blow this thing up, they're not getting me

Xhafer:

Right.

Xhafer:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

we will destroy this ship before we let that happen in a linear

Xhafer:

it's just to looking on like okay.

Laura:

All these due to Phil minbar.

Laura:

You're just going to sign up to get Guild by an.

Laura:

Arthur.

Laura:

Okay.

Xhafer:

Yep.

Xhafer:

Okay.

Laura:

Cool.

Laura:

Cool.

Laura:

Cool.

Xhafer:

Ah, yeah, he puts on.

Xhafer:

He puts on his civilian clothes of possible mutiny.

Xhafer:

And it's so good.

Xhafer:

And arrangers of the coverup.

Xhafer:

His star fury will autopilot and self-destruct.

Xhafer:

. And Franklin will be responsible for the bio mass.

Laura:

which is the other dead body folks.

Xhafer:

Yep.

Xhafer:

It Franklin you'll put a dead body in there and make sure it's believable.

Laura:

he's going to go find some lurkers or something.

Laura:

I don't know.

Laura:

Oh, so dark, so dark.

Xhafer:

can just ask Garibaldi.

Xhafer:

I'm sure he knows of

Laura:

Yeah.

Laura:

He'll find you something.

Laura:

No big deal.

Xhafer:

Uh, We see See Sheridan contemplate up on the bridge.

Xhafer:

Well, we go to Nightwatch who confirms.

Xhafer:

We know for a fact now everyone who laugh, reacted, president

Xhafer:

Clark's Kofi tweet is in fact.

Xhafer:

A trader.

Laura:

Yeah, the joke's gonna stay for awhile.

Laura:

Yeah.

Laura:

It's good.

Laura:

It's good.

Xhafer:

I've been saying, been sitting on that one for awhile.

Xhafer:

Yeah, so we get.

Xhafer:

You know, we're told there's all kinds of people.

Xhafer:

Senators high ranking military officers, the fake news media.

Xhafer:

Even members of the joint chiefs of staff.

Xhafer:

You know, officer Alex Jones tells us how it is, the lists

Xhafer:

are being drawn up already.

Xhafer:

Now we just need the evidence before we go for the arrests.

Laura:

We start the March tomorrow on January 6th.

Laura:

Yeah.

Laura:

So also while they're going over this, somebody notes

Laura:

that the captain is missing.

Xhafer:

He's just been gone.

Xhafer:

Anyone know where he's at?

Xhafer:

That's weird.

Laura:

I'm wondering how, how they have such close tabs on the

Laura:

captain when it's a station of half a million humans and aliens, but.

Laura:

He can't just take a couple of days off you guys.

Laura:

It's not okay.

Xhafer:

Right.

Xhafer:

Maybe he's on vacation.

Xhafer:

You don't write his PTO schedule.

Xhafer:

You're not his supervisor.

Laura:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

Linear tells Sheridan to go the fuck to sleep.

Xhafer:

He sees them in Bari beds and he keeps sliding down.

Laura:

Yeah.

Laura:

that's

Laura:

that's

Xhafer:

And I know the scene is like super heartfelt and cute

Xhafer:

and adorable and heartwarming and talking about his dad and everything.

Xhafer:

I'm just laughing because he just keeps sliding.

Laura:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

he's just got no

Laura:

Well, you got to have a little physical comedy in the show.

Laura:

Sometimes.

Xhafer:

Dylan tells us the embargo.

Xhafer:

You consider sleeping horizontal to be inviting death.

Laura:

Yeah.

Laura:

I mean, if you're someone who has sleep apnea and snores a lot, I

Laura:

think that that might be true.

Xhafer:

You think that's just a problem for all men Bari.

Laura:

Yeah.

Laura:

Yeah.

Laura:

Maybe.

Xhafer:

about the bone

Laura:

Exactly.

Xhafer:

all have sleep apnea.

Xhafer:

It's either this or a species of.

Xhafer:

Attached to C-PAP machines.

Laura:

So we all just sit up a little bit.

Laura:

That's fine.

Xhafer:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

I mean, culturally, that makes

Laura:

It's nice to see that Dylan also has a subscription to the calm app.

Laura:

And she can just put on the thunderstorm, whatever she wants.

Laura:

That's how I've been sleeping

Laura:

lately.

Xhafer:

Yeah, it's just like, Hey Alexa, play rain sounds.

Laura:

Yeah, I give myself a good two, two hours of rain.

Laura:

Get you right to sleep.

Xhafer:

I definitely am a big fan of white noise from my smart speaker.

Xhafer:

That that is an every night thing.

Xhafer:

I stayed with someone who had a railway in running through their backyard.

Xhafer:

And it was going all the time.

Xhafer:

And I started using white noise then, and I have never stopped since.

. Laura:

But okay.

. Laura:

Yeah.

. Laura:

So he finally gets some rest is the point.

Xhafer:

Meanwhile, Marcus provokes Ivanova and do actually responding.

Xhafer:

And as she does uh, she does just about everything.

Xhafer:

. She's mad at absolutely everything right now, every single circumstance

Xhafer:

in her life, it seems to be just outside of her control.

Xhafer:

And it is very frustrating for her.

Xhafer:

Once the pressure valve opens it, doesn't shut off until it's empty.

Laura:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

just kind of goes for a minute.

Laura:

You know, at least she knows.

Laura:

What's bugging her and she can admit it.

Laura:

That's the first step.

Laura:

That's the first step to dealing with it.

Xhafer:

For sure.

Xhafer:

You know, she's, she's confused about Marcus.

Xhafer:

She's confused about probably how she feels about Marcus to be perfectly

Xhafer:

honest for things that aren't said.

Xhafer:

But confused about his place, you know?

Xhafer:

She's a very rigid military minded person.

Xhafer:

And Marcus exists outside of that structure.

Xhafer:

And that's something that bothers

Laura:

Yeah, he's a little bit rogue.

Laura:

Roguish if you will.

Xhafer:

I would, I would say so.

Laura:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

Meanwhile, the white star gates in at Jupiter.

Xhafer:

Oh, we get the casual drop that shadow ships merge with their single pilot.

Xhafer:

Which is going to be very important plot point.

Xhafer:

Later in the series.

Laura:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

Huh.

Laura:

And very important for this episode as well.

Xhafer:

Yes.

Xhafer:

Yep.

Xhafer:

The shadow ship activates destroys its enclosure flies off the moon

Xhafer:

and just starts blowing shit up.

Xhafer:

And Dylan's all like, oh, the ship didn't merge, right?

Xhafer:

It's confused.

Xhafer:

And on a murderous rampage now,

Xhafer:

because shadow ships are known for their restraint.

Laura:

Something is very wrong with this one.

Laura:

As far as we can tell.

Xhafer:

So white star engages the shadow ship.

Xhafer:

They managed to damage it and blow off one of those tendrils.

Xhafer:

And then they fly into Jupiter's atmosphere and attempt to get it

Xhafer:

caught in the planet's gravity.

Xhafer:

Well, Trying to outsmart them since they can't outgun

Laura:

Yeah.

Laura:

They mentioned that, you know, even though we blew a tendril off, like

Laura:

this thing is still very high power and we can not defeat it on our own.

Laura:

So we wind up flying into the planet and the atmosphere.

Xhafer:

Sheridan's asking about the specs on the car again.

Xhafer:

During the test drive.

Xhafer:

Remind me to never let share it and drive my lease.

Laura:

Oh, for sure.

Xhafer:

I can only imagine working at a dealership and this guy comes in.

Xhafer:

So is this car rated to stop it from 75 to zero in 45 feet?

Xhafer:

What I, no one would even.

Xhafer:

I'm the highway.

Xhafer:

Like.

Laura:

Yup.

Laura:

That's essentially what he's doing here, because we're, we're getting really close

Laura:

to the gravity well, and pulling back out.

Laura:

When the shadow ship cannot and the shadow ship basically falls

Laura:

in and crumples into nothing.

Xhafer:

Yup.

Xhafer:

He's got a good strategy for testing the ship.

Xhafer:

He did it last time too.

Xhafer:

It's wait for the moment.

Xhafer:

Linear stops freaking out because he's given up and accepted death.

Xhafer:

That's when you that's, when you flip the switch.

Xhafer:

This is the second time he's done it.

Xhafer:

It's the second time he's defeated a shadow ship with it.

Xhafer:

So

Xhafer:

pretty clear indicator of what's line.

Laura:

Yeah, this is Sheridan signature style here.

Laura:

So as they're attempting to leave Jupiter and get out of that

Laura:

atmosphere an old friend shows up in the form of the EA S ag.

Laura:

Agamemnon.

Xhafer:

NA Sheraton's old

Laura:

Yeah.

Laura:

So not only does he have to decide whether or not he's going to

Laura:

fire on an earth Alliance ship.

Laura:

It's his ship.

Laura:

It's his baby.

Xhafer:

on that

Laura:

Yeah.

Laura:

Every inch of that ship.

Laura:

So Sheridan finds out that he can't do it.

Laura:

He's not going to fire on the Agamemnon.

Laura:

And the Len and him hatchet, crit, and other crazy plan to

Laura:

this time, open a jump point.

Laura:

And the atmosphere, which the Agamemnon would not be able to follow them through.

Laura:

Because it's not going to be stable.

Xhafer:

Yep.

Xhafer:

Th they managed to make it happen and they escape thus doing more junk.

Xhafer:

Bing antics with the white star.

Laura:

Well, you, you put all that technology in there.

Laura:

You gotta use it, man.

Xhafer:

Yup.

Xhafer:

Back on the station.

Xhafer:

We get an ISN report of offense twisted for Clark with earth victorious.

Xhafer:

But more security being needed for some reason.

Laura:

Yeah.

Laura:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

There was this alien threat and we absolutely crushed it.

Xhafer:

We're so good humans also, though.

Xhafer:

We're really scared about this alien threat Sweden, a ton more security

Xhafer:

to take care of it just don't

Laura:

Yeah.

Laura:

Yeah, this is really bad.

Laura:

You guys, but we're great.

Xhafer:

We're

Xhafer:

great.

Xhafer:

Your great.

Xhafer:

You say.

Xhafer:

Let's say here, right?

Laura:

Yeah.

Laura:

So at the same time, Zack is getting someone back to Mr.

Laura:

Alex Jones.

Laura:

Nightwatch.

Laura:

Representative.

Laura:

And I guess they've decided that Sheridan disappearing for a little bit.

Laura:

It is a thing and they want Zach to help investigate.

Xhafer:

Yeah, specifically, Garibaldi has to be complicit.

Xhafer:

So you're going to investigate Garibaldi

Laura:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

the captain.

Laura:

That's a big leap, but okay.

Xhafer:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

I mean, I don't think it's, he's always in those meetings and

Laura:

that's true.

Laura:

Code seminar.

Laura:

So, yeah, we kind of have a reason, I guess, to, to think that.

Xhafer:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

And Zack's even like you would have brought me in on it months ago.

Xhafer:

If I wasn't part of Nightwatch he's like, ah, so there is something going on.

Xhafer:

It's like, yes, he's openly committing mutiny and.

Xhafer:

He's the one who gave the Clark, the president Clark tapes.

Xhafer:

Like if you were to whisked off everything that we're actually

Xhafer:

going on, he's preparing for an international war with other alien

Xhafer:

races against this superior alien races.

Xhafer:

If I had to come out of hibernation.

Xhafer:

Like, if you were just listed, all right, then he doesn't know any of it, but he

Xhafer:

was just like, we'll blast it all out.

Xhafer:

I feel like there's no way you could take him seriously.

Xhafer:

Egos Zach, Allen's a nut.

Laura:

That's the strategy you should take, right.

Laura:

Just to start spewing everything and it looks insane.

Laura:

And then they're like, oh, well, We'll leave this guy alone for awhile.

Xhafer:

We'll get someone else to investigate Garibaldi.

Laura:

Yeah.

Laura:

Damn.

Laura:

If only he knew war.

Xhafer:

Yeah.

Laura:

So Marcus shows up at Yvanova's quarters.

Xhafer:

He did a school fair project.

Laura:

he's got his little science fair poster.

Laura:

It's very cute.

Laura:

Trying to, trying to make an org chart.

Xhafer:

Yep.

Laura:

five.

Xhafer:

heart of the station?

Xhafer:

And here's me and here, my parents.

Xhafer:

And here's where I put the the vinegar in the volcano.

Laura:

And here's my hypothesis about B-plus you.

Xhafer:

It equals us.

Laura:

Yeah.

Laura:

And so he's just trying to make her laugh.

Xhafer:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

And he succeeds.

Xhafer:

Ms.

Xhafer:

Chicago's as soon as she's laughing, he's all like, oh, well I don't

Xhafer:

need this fucking site anymore.

Laura:

Bye I'm out of the episode.

. Xhafer:

And then ISN broadcasts.

. Xhafer:

Earth is now under martial law per Clark.

. Xhafer:

And he's totally going to explain it in a closed session of the Senate tomorrow.

Laura:

Mm.

Laura:

. Not ominous at all.

Xhafer:

Nope.

Laura:

And seen.

Laura:

Credits.

Xhafer:

That's the episode.

Xhafer:

All right, Laura.

Xhafer:

how'd you feel about this one?

Xhafer:

A scale of Babylon, one to five.

Laura:

I mean, this is a fantastic episode.

Laura:

Do not get me wrong.

Laura:

I do feel like it is weakened a tad by the.

Laura:

Garibaldi plot not being mentioned in the show anywhere before this.

Laura:

You know, not plot, but Garibaldi history.

Laura:

And the fact that Garibaldi also saw this thing on Syria plenum.

Xhafer:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

He saw maybe a shadow

Laura:

Yeah.

Laura:

. And he was with Sinclair and we had a whole season of him in Sinclair together.

Laura:

Where that's never mentioned at all.

Xhafer:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

I mean, that's what happens when you write comics in between seasons two and

Xhafer:

three, you don't have time to reference them until you're making season three

Laura:

Right, right.

Laura:

And it, for me, it was a little bit.

Laura:

Uh, Weaker.

Laura:

Cause I'm sitting there with my husband who has never watched the show before.

Laura:

And he's going, what.

Laura:

And then this happened.

Laura:

Where does this cause, you know, he's not engaging in the.

Laura:

Supplementary media, like, you know, we've read the book, he didn't read the book

Laura:

and we don't have these comics either.

Laura:

So.

Laura:

Um,

Xhafer:

Mean.

Xhafer:

Y, I just read about it online

Laura:

Right, Right, Right,

Xhafer:

Um,

Xhafer:

I should see, see if I can find him.

Xhafer:

I probably can.

Xhafer:

Anyways.

Xhafer:

That's fair.

Xhafer:

I had originally wrote this down.

Xhafer:

Oh, you didn't put a number

Laura:

Yeah.

Laura:

I don't think I can give it a five because of that.

Laura:

And also, I, you know, I kind of know what's coming and I know that

Laura:

there's some really good stuff, then I'm looking forward to.

Laura:

So I would give this a four.

Laura:

I think this is.

Laura:

Not the strongest it's going to be.

Laura:

Even in this three episode arc.

Laura:

But it is very good.

Xhafer:

I agree.

Xhafer:

I gave it a four and a half out of five.

Xhafer:

And my reasoning is the half point off isn't even really anything to

Xhafer:

do, particularly with this episode.

Xhafer:

It's for me having to stop watching and not being able to watch the next two

Xhafer:

so that we could record this episode.

Laura:

Yeah.

Laura:

Yeah.

Laura:

Like you want to go.

Xhafer:

I want to watch the next two real bad.

Xhafer:

So,

Xhafer:

yeah, no.

Xhafer:

I love this episode.

Laura:

Yeah, no, I liked this episode too.

Laura:

It just coming at it with a brand new person.

Laura:

From.

Laura:

You know, We've been watching this pretty steadily together.

Laura:

Throughout the last year and whatever.

Laura:

And there's this whole big thing that Garibaldi dumps on us that.

Laura:

Really could have been mentioned earlier.

Xhafer:

That's fair.

Xhafer:

Yeah.

Laura:

That was, that was a little jarring that took me out of it for

Laura:

that first part of the episode.

Laura:

But all the other stuff, you know, share it ans dilemmas.

Laura:

Zach, Alan's set up.

Laura:

Very good.

Laura:

And it's, it's a very good place setter and I'm looking forward to the next two.

Xhafer:

Same.

Xhafer:

Which is season three, episode nine point of no return.

Xhafer:

Sheridan clashes with Nightwatch when martial law is in.

Xhafer:

imposed on Babylon five.

Xhafer:

A profit reveals.

Xhafer:

Alondo surprising future.

Xhafer:

Hey, you know who that profit

Xhafer:

is?

Laura:

Oh, wait.

Xhafer:

Listener, if you were unaware, the guest star of next

Xhafer:

episode is one major Barrett.

Laura:

Saifai royalty.

Laura:

If you will.

Xhafer:

Very excited for that.

Xhafer:

I think, I remember really liking her portrayal and her character in the show.

Laura:

Yes.

Xhafer:

Uh, much more so than most of the star Trek characters

Xhafer:

that were written for her.

Xhafer:

That I have.

Xhafer:

Some kind of umbrage with, for one reason or another.

Laura:

Huh.

Xhafer:

Most of them, most of those complaints being under

Xhafer:

development to be absolutely clear.

Xhafer:

Um, not, not any fault of the actress.

Laura:

I think, I think she's, this is a one-off right.

Laura:

We don't really see her again.

Xhafer:

I think so.

Xhafer:

I think it's a one off.

Xhafer:

On TV.

Xhafer:

But I think she's in.

Xhafer:

Either mentioned her or she's in supplementary material.

Xhafer:

She shows.

Xhafer:

I think she shows up again, maybe in the comics.

Xhafer:

And I got to imagine, I haven't read it, but probably the

Xhafer:

centaury trilogy of books as

Laura:

Yeah, when we get there, I think for if, if it's the one-off I remember.

Laura:

It's a pretty rich character for one you see in one episode.

Laura:

So.

Xhafer:

Yeah.

Laura:

Very excited.

Xhafer:

I'm very excited too.

Xhafer:

And I'm also very excited to say thank you to Jeremy Siegel for our
